... Jade Empire is a fantasy setting  While I enjoyed the game and would like to see that cultural milieu explored better, I don't think the base game is crying for a sequel. They would have to come up with a good enough concept to justify it while staying true to the original, which is tricky. I kind of would prefer no sequel to a crappy sequel, though I wouldn't blame them for trying. Same setting, new timeline will work just fine. Setting and artwork as long as the lighthearted style was what I loved. Then, again, perhaps it's not what current fans want, so I'd rather not have a wave of hatred associated with my favorite game. If there must be another Jade Empire that sounds about right, though I was thinking more of a prequel. There are plenty of events mentioned in the original to suggest an interesting backstory, while giving some leeway to the developers and staying away from the ramifications of the previous plot. Those characters and narrative are wrapped up and done, as far as I'm concerned. A standalone sequel a la Dragon Age, except even more drastic, would be preferable. By the way, I would like to take this chance to recommend Barry Hughart's books (Bridge of Birds, The Story of the Stone, and Eight Skilled Gentlemen) to any Jade Empire fan. Chances are they are the best novels you've never heard about, and there's only three, relatively short ones. Quite a treat! I know martial arts movies are the alleged basis for Jade Empire, but the game is so stylistically similar to Hughart's stuff I cannot help but wonder. |

Hopefully they were re-published. Back at the time, it was relatively easy to get the Bridge of Birds, but the other two were really hard to find in Canada. But, OMG, Number Ten Ox adventures are awesome. I am really sorry Hughart decided that serialization of a successful formula is not for him, but I do get it why.  I would say that as a novelist that I would have liked the JE to emulate would be Abercrombie, who managed to write a few good stand alones in the same setting, each with the separate cast etc. |

Its probably never going to happen but if it did I'd freak out.
Incredible game, my life is so dull without having spirits / demons popping up out of the ground to deliver plot twists and then vanishing.

There had been a few recent mentions of it including in the latest Laidlaw broadcast. While I feel all hurting inside that DAT was what killed JE2 project, the whole "not truly dead" vibe still gets me every darn time. I really miss the true wonder of that world, and all things that could have happened, and the wonders of the Definitely Not Central Asia, NEA and SEA that we've missed out on. Along with the not ye garden variety dragons, demons and spirits, and the unapologetically bright art. That non-experience is forever a missing gem, and the strongest longing, the unconsummated pinnacle of my wildest gaming fantasies.
Effect, Andromeda, Age, Republic and Anthem are all nice and good, but losing Jade sucks. |

Actually, I'd love a JE lite MMO way more than the power suits looter shooter. At least they already have a powerful story and the rich world.

Man, I loved this game!
I always played as Lu The Prodigy (because when I was 16, I thought he had the coolest looking outfit lol) or Radiant Jen Zi.
I loved the outfit of Scholar Ling the most though, yet never played her, because I felt her character looked super old for some reason back then.
Maybe I should replay it using her now...

Hard to imagine there will be another game like Jade Empire, even if they do a remake, it's going to be be some online/mmo style travesty. I'm resigned to the fact that JE was a product of an era that has passed.

I've personally given up hope on this. Jade Empire without question, has Biowares greatest villain, It's also quite possibly the greatest one I've ever seen in any video game, though one character might surpass it in the future. Love Jade Empire so much, it is truly a setting and a game that deserved a far better fate.
for me, the movie Forbidden Kingdom is the unofficial spiritual squeal to Jade Empire. Anyone who has seen that movie will know what I mean lol.

You can bet it will have a heavy online element. Maybe open world like GTA online is also an option. |
