This whole locked thing is definitely blown out of proportion. I've literally played only a few hours of MP and already unlocked half the locked characters. The locked heroes were not so easy to obtain initially. They reduced the costs by 75%.

My source: I saw that too. I'm personally beginning to see this game as one big experiment to see just how much they can get away with.

This whole locked thing is definitely blown out of proportion. I've literally played only a few hours of MP and already unlocked half the locked characters. The reason behind the huge backlash is originally Vader and Luke were 60,000 credits each which is overpriced. The reason you are able to get the hero's quick now is EA reduced the cost by 75% for every character and the other reason people are annoyed is some of the most iconic characters in the series are locked behind credits when they should be available to the player right away.

I do wonder when the ratings board is going to wise up to the fact that all of this loot boxes and RNG crap is the equivalent to gambling? I mean they force game companies to but disclaimers on their titles when there is simulated drugs or alcohol, but when the game contains actual gambling there is no mention of it. Makes me wonder what publishers like EA would do if they suddenly had to plaster the obligatory warning message over their games, a warning that said something to the effect of: "This product contains a gambling mechanic aimed at children and young adults parental discretion is advised." As I recall, the ratings board said that since you are guaranteed to get something out of purchasing of a loot crate (even if it's something you already have) it is not gambling. In gambling, you use your money, but have a chance of losing it all. I'll post some videos on the topic later.

Yes, they reduced the prices but they also reduced the match end credits you receive. You receive more credits depending on how long the match lasts with the minimum being 100 and the max being around 250. Assuming four matches an hour with a 200 credit reward (hypothetical) you will be at 800 credits, so that's 800/15000 for Darth Vader. Assuming three hours of play with the same credit spread you'd be at 2400/15000 for Darth Vader. The prices may have changed, but it's still going to take you 40 hours to get him unless you spend your own money to buy the crates.

Some people think this system is better than a Season Pass, it really isn't. It's just the same system with a different execution. Instead of paying 60 more bucks for a "premium" DLC pack, you spend 5 bucks today, then another 5 tomorrow, then next week you spent 10 bucks in loot boxes. It ends the same, but you spent less money in one go, that's all. No, I'm not forced to buy the loot boxes to get the same content as someone who do spend irl money, but my experience is getting compromised if there's a genuine grind wall between me and the in-game items compared to someone who spend 10 bucks each day.
This system if anything, works best for them. By adding a season pass to a multiplayer game, you're potentially dividing the player base, and that just translates in numbers to them. Numbers translate in money: divided player base = less people playing = less money.
So they instead promise free content for the future, and the catch is now you have this F2P game crate system. I swear, at times it looks like if companies wanted to adopt the old MMO monthly subscription system and make us pay each month to own the game. At least in MMOs the game was free to begin with.

My personal journalist of the year, Jason Schreier, just shared this research. kotaku.com/the-curious-case-of-the-ea-game-dev-who-said-he-receive-1820474458Lol, EA and their fake employees. Andromeda's Lead Animator and this guy, with the death threats. Both of these fake fucks deserve all the hate in the world. Death threats go to far, but that's what you get for being a total 100% bullshit artist.

Can you rent servers like in Battlefield? According to J. Sterling they got this covered. In-game credits are capped in at least one mode so no idling. Instead you get to wait to earn again. Well played EA. Beating cheese with mobile game monetization.

i suspect he worked for a marketing firm that EA contracted with at some point, hell i wouldn't be surprised if the entire episode was a marketing ploy because most people aren't even talking about the star wars game..... jump forward a few hours from his "viral tweet" and you get to the point where its front page news nationwide and it didn't cost you a penny in advertising to tell the whole nation that there's a new game coming out... mentioning death threats over micro transaction pricing is a pretty safe bet (plenty of people will be vitriolic about such things so its not hard to believe some would indeed have gone totally off the rails especially if there intoxicated) and of course it lets EA do some "positive community response" like dropping the prices of their digital pixel inventory which gives you a two for one on the game that nobody was talking about two days ago..... hell even the kotaku article seems to have missed that vital bit of information, every interaction this guy had about EA was related some game or other that had lower than expected numbers of pre orders.... its just the first time it actually managed to do the job and go viral....
