I just heard that the game scored a user rating of 0.9 on Metacritic, a world record.
The bad press surrounding this title is astonishing to watch.

Yet it's done well financially by all accounts. The key factor is going to be how sales have actually been impacted.

The bad press surrounding this title is astonishing to watch. It truly is. But what's even more interesting is how fast this whole thing went up in flames. It seemed like overnight Battlefront 2 just exploded like the Death Star.

Ultimately the fact that nothing is wagered that you could potentially lose when purchasing a box is going to tip that, its why none of this stuff is really gambling since everything you get is a reward. It's like opening a pack of magic cards, really . Ye, it's not gambling in the exact sense, but it's playing with chances. And since you cannot trade the duplicates with others, the incentive to buy more is the insidious part in it. A bit unfair to compare it to normal collectible random chance purchases. The trading is a big part of those. A lot of the ccg people I know just sell back their doublessed or abandon them conpletely. There is little to no actual trading to go around. Plus most games have the benefit of increasing rank or gaining resources for doubles, so even then I don't consider that gambling. Chance sure, but not gambling in the purest form.

CDPR likes money too, why wouldn't they try to capitalise when one of there competitors face plants? Where were these comments when it was Blizzard trying to take advantage of EA's misfortune?
Is that also foul play then?

Nah EA deserves to be the butt of the joke, it is good to see other developers calling out the scummy business practices at EA and taking a stand that this kind of shit is not acceptable. Besides CDPR aren't the only ones doing it with other publishers being even bolder in taking potshots at EA.

Somehow I get the feeling your priorities aren't in the right place.

No, I just happen to have a good perspective of events and behavior and how everyone is being preyed upon in a moment of heated, unadulterated rage. Doesn't really matter if it's warranted rage at this point towards EA - I never disputed that it wasn't wholly necessary either, which some of you apparently neglect to understand - what matters is this sort of sickening opportunism that is frankly, disgusting on all fronts in our culture is now being celebrated.

The context of the tweet was a response to a video on youtube speculating on whether or not CDPR would implement the microtransactions and lootboxes currently plaguing the industry in Cyberpunk 2077, CDPR released a tweet in response saying that they do not want to do that and did not even mention EA by name, yet somehow this is considered "unprofessional bullshit"? What exactly did you expect them to do? Stay quiet and let rumours fester? Forgive me if I don't follow your strain of logic here but I am not sure how this can be considered more sickeningly opportunistic than what EA is actually doing in trying to fleece it's consumer base with predatory microtransactions, people should call this stuff out and say that it is not acceptable.

Fact of the matter is that tweet was a dick move, regardless of context. As is the THQ Noridc one you posted (and seemingly ignored) as is the digs by Activision.

Well people are claiming that CDPR's tweet is somehow predatory and insidious designed to kick EA while they are down, if that was the case then surely there would be mention of EA in the tweet.

No, that would be courageous of them. Ballsy even. It would be the type of behaviour that would get you described as an arsehole, like say Fish. I would call it bitchy precisely because they used context to snipe at EA (obvious context) without having the nads to get into a direct confrontation. Just my 2c.

I am not taking anyone's word on anything and will judge Cyberpunk 2077 when it comes out based on it's merits, however I don't see why we should doubt their word that Cyberpunk 2077 wont have microtransactions at this point, have they given us any reason to doubt it? That said I have not seen the digs by Activision and would find them making digs at EA a little hypocritical but I don't see a problem with CDPR's tweet, personally I think you are just looking for a reason to be offended to try and re-direct and deflect a bit of the deserved backlash against EA.
