Even when taking Digital Sales into account that's still a bad number. If it does indeed sell less than the previous title, than it can be easy to see why Wall Street started shifting in their seat when things deteriorated. I honestly hope EA gets a burn on their wrist with this one. The only way things will change across the board is if the root of all evil is taken away from them: money.

It’s a Star Wars game, they aren’t in any real danger of losing money on it. The most we can hope for is that it falls below expectations. Hopefully it does and EA is discouraged from attempting such intrusive and predatory microtransactions.

Money isn't the root of all evil, the love of money is. EA needs money to continue existing as a company. What they don't need to do is constantly design their games (which already clock in at a full priced $60+) around milking their consumers dry and/or locking 2/3 of said games behind paywalls after the aforementioned full price is paid.

Haha, I have a feeling that will never happen though, not a lot of interest or time from the majority out there. If it does I'll put the word out for volunteers. If you ever do it, two recommendations:
A. Try to make the podcast more diverse (in opinions, not the politically correct definition of the word). There are many podcasts out there that feature a bunch of guys / gals that more or less agree with one another on almost everything.
Personally I would find it much more interesting to listen to a reasoned discussion when it contains and represents multiple viewpoints.
B. If you are looking to cultivate a following, it's best to also do something else in addition to podcasts. Listening to podcasts usually comes after people find X podcaster to be interesting enough. That said, I guess that if the podcast manages to be interesting enough maybe it wouldn't need that much help.
Well that is why I would want you on. My dream podcast/ RP talk would be you, me, Iakus, Sylvius, and Alec just chatting about random stuff, with maybe a guest or two every so often to round it out. Imagine the conversations there...

It's not their own game, though - the licence either takes a hefty cut or cost a fortune up front or some combination.

There have been flops, but Star Wars is very prominent in the mainstream right now and EA hasn’t been shy about advertisement. It could turn a profit and still fail if it falls below EA’s expectations for the quarter.

The reception has hit physical sales as we saw already, and I am sure it will also hit digital and micro too.

ME3MP's grind as far as unlocking everything is bloody awful. My profile is sitting at something like 700 hours and I'm only about halfway through the Ultra Rares (this playing almost exclusively gold and platinum, which give the highest rewards) Shit's been happening forever. It seems to have simply reached a tipping point for some people with this game. Emphasis on seems. I'm betting the system gets reintroduced to this game after christmas with minimal protest and we go through the same song and dance at the next big EA release. You never needed the best versions of the guns to be fair...I completed a few platinum wit level 4 and 5 black widows in my day, it was doable with a well coordinated team. all you needed to complete plat games was the starter gear and time then they changed the maps and it became impossible... that was because they wanted to sell more boxes to cash players.... to start off with microtransactions were fine in me3mp, you didn't gain anything from spending cash that you couldn't obtain through playing the game, then things got "tweaked" to mean if you didn't spend cash you wernt going to be moving up to the next level .... DAI you got no real benefit from spending cash you needed to play certain maps to get the best gear.... with BF2 if you don't spend cash your not going to progress for months and to make it worse you need to spend a lot of cash to get there, if all you needed was to blow an extra $20 to get there it wouldn't be so bad, but you need to spend a couple of hundred or be left months behind ..... folks prefer to spend cash on new map packs, or up to $2 on new gear skins that give a bonus (which is how cod did it) the real problem is not the fact that micro transactions exist or the fact you can obtain epic level gear way ahead of your peers that don't use them its the price scale to get stuff and the feeling that your forced into using them in order to be competitive.... this is the same reason why EVE online was such a bad game for new players they had zero chance of getting anywhere or achieving anything because there was no way to compete with long term players... its the same reason why many games fail massively through falling population, BF2 is literally going to be a ghost town of a few cash whores that "pwnt the noobz" at every turn driving them out of the game..... EA's bad choices have screwed up massively because they have experiences with other games that used a different progression model where random loot crate type stuff didn't ruin things for anyone (in the mass effect and dai mp's this was primarily because your purely playing co-op so one guy wasting a few thousand dollars to gain all the leet gear at x was never a problem) and that makes a huge difference in terms of how players at large view the addition of "micro transactions".... not that you can call flogging loot crates for those prices as micro transactions, when the game is free you can maybe justify having a lottery box option that costs more than $25, but not when your charging $60 for the base game as well .....

On top of the M$ debacle, for what I've seen on Twitch, the game crashes a lot, the tickrate is a pathetic 30 which creates a lot of issues in the gunplay and there's also a lot of lag related with the servers. So, if the game didn't have enough problems, it also has technical issues. We're talking a released game now, not a beta.

I've had issues (playing on ps4 pro) where I couldn't play, but for the most part I've had a really smooth experience. Though, I couldn't tell you what the tickrate means. The most bugs I've seen are in the arcade, where enemies would get stuck in the ground.

We're talking a released game now, not a beta. That was the biggest problem with the last game, it was more of a Beta than an actual game.

The most bugs I've seen are in the arcade, where enemies would get stuck in the ground. Yeah no idea how the deal is on console. The streams I saw were always on PC. There were some framerate issues too at random, now that I remember. The tickrate is part of the network code, is how many times the situation gets updated to the server in seconds, or milliseconds technically because it's on Hertz, but seconds is easy to digest. This game has a 30Hz tickrate which means it updates 30 timer per second, that may not tell you anything. However, such a lower tickrate was the main cause of issues in BF4 in gunplay: you may shoot at someone, you kill them. However, in their screen they already turned around the corner, you couldn't have kill them, yet you did. That's the problem with lower tickrates. BF4 then updated to 75Hz I think, which was day and night difference. To give you an idea CS GO has a tickrate of 100+ Hz if I'm not mistaken, and we're talking about a AGES old game with far less people involved in a match. Not really sure why they didn't follow BF4 path here.

The article is a bit mis-leading. Thankfully we have someone on our staff who can translate Flemish for us, he basically noted that the commission thinks they are gambling because it's being predatory specifically on children, to paraphrase it. Belgium apparently views games as kid toys, according to our staffer. That said, it has to go through to the EU for it to really administer a change. PEGI has also noted that they don't see Loot Boxes as Gambling, but they will change their parameters if other country gaming commissions do. So what is likely here depends not necessarily on implementation, but just compliance with the law. This may go down the China route...
