The Dalish only have a limited knowledge of the elven language, so you have to assume that Lavellan would not be able to translate that quickly, even if they knew how to.

You are right about the Dalish reaction to anyone approaching them in the Fade, let alone someone claiming to be Fen'Harel. They are wary of spirits and regard them all as dangerous, which is a pity considering what a good relationship their ancestors had with spirits. However, this could be to do with the fact that their gods are no longer in control of the Beyond (Fade). According to their beliefs Fen'Harel now patrols this feeding on the souls of the dead.

I think Solas' main criticism of them though is their dedication to the Creators, trying to preserve incomplete lore and refusing to listen when anyone tries to enlighten them. I think he was a bit unfair to those clans he approached though. When he turns up with no vallaslin, claiming to be a simple apostate, naturally they are going to see him as a city elf. Then if he tried to correct their view of their gods, naturally they would think he was an Andrastrian city elf criticising their culture. With around 1800 years of people trying to eradicate their culture and beliefs, they are going to be a bit sensitive about the issue.

Really I feel if he or any of his followers had wanted to help the ordinary elves after the Veil have an accurate view of history, they should have stuck around instead of taking a nap. As it is, it would seem that some followers of the Evanuris probably did stay awake and reproduce and it is their descendants that make up the majority of modern elves; hence the pro-Evanuris, anti-Fen'Harel viewpoint.
