I believe Solas actually "likes" Sera, as much as possible at least lol
She's one of the current leaders of a rebel organisation, even if they aren't aiming for drastic changes, they're still doing stuff. And we know from the banter with Dorian how much he values activism, like "your regrets are meaningless if you don't do anything about it"
She is an elf, and I believe i've read people saying while in a sera romance, he tells Lavellan he relates to being attracted to your kind, so he probably feels a natural sympathy towards her as well, even if it doesn't mean much because she's from modern Thedas it's still something
He tries to reach out for her, she just won't respond. One of their first banters is him trolling her with magic because she's played a prank on him and it's just so funny. You don't really see Solas joking with other people, he's always so serious. (but i love it)
She is an elf AND she doesn't preach the Evanuris and/or tag her own face with slave marks. This is probably so refreshing for him. Of course city elves don't use vallaslin but they still believe in the old gods. As she rejects every elfy stuff, Sera also rejects them and that's not really something common amongst elves at all. They all try so hard to maintain their twisted heritage they actually don't know anything about, and she just won't, she couldn't care less, but at least she's not clinging onto false beliefs, etc, I don't think I'm typing a decent sentence LOL
She doesn't torment herself with questions, she defies rules, does whatever she wants and whatever she feels is right, help the small people, which means also slaves, which mostly means elves, plays tricks (trickster), I could see her reminding him of himself when he was young and carefree, before becoming the Fen'harel™ he had to become
I'm sorry if i'm repeating what other people already said !!
Edit : no drawing planned, nothing to do... Time to go back into playing teh game !!!!!

I'm not a fan of the Sera is Andruil theory. I also doubt Sera was originally part of the long term plan. The fact that she and the Red Jenny stuff is all optional is indeed a good indication. The Andruil idea is fun to discuss, but seems weakly supported. Most people like to point to the image on one of her tarot cards looking like Andruil's vallaslin. Again, fun but...it kind of reminds me of all the fuss we made about allegedly seeing kissing elves in the clouds in Trespasser. I think the odd banter between Solas and Sera about the breach, language, and so forth was a way of showing how all the elves have some things in common which set them apart from the humans...even if elves like Sera are resistant to this connection. As hard as any elf may try, they are still an elf. Dalish or city elf, rebel or conformist, mage or no--in the future the fate of all elves may be tied. This moment in Trespasser stands out to me: She so badly wants eyes to just be eyes. In this moment she's forced face to face with her elfiness, yet she still wants to deny it. One's true nature can't be avoided, just as a tree can't disregard its roots. Since she was optional, I'll be surprised if we get a chance to see her crisis of identity come to head in DA4. It took me 2 PTs to warm up to her character (likely because I recruited her very late), but she's a lot of fun. I don't understand why she was poorly received. She's fun and I enjoy her for what she is but I can also understand why she was poorly received. My own issues with her stem from both the friendship and romance arcs. If you remove your vallaslin she's quite cruel about it. I don't think she particularly intends to be but instead of being a concerned and comforting friend she laughs at you/the dalish instead. This kind of stands out as she's one of the only four people (that I know of - Josephine, Sera, Cassandra, Cole) who mention it at all and one of the only two you can actually talk to about it (Josephine, Sera). Then with the romance after the Temple of Mythal she has no intention of giving up her own beliefs to be with you but fully expects you to give up all of your beliefs to be with her. The selfishness there is kind of mindboggling (to me). She does provide a very strong example of what Solas likely fears all of the modern elves will become. He does say she's the farthest from what she *should* be. My dalish quizzy liked Sera, up until that convo about her markings getting removed. If there had been a punch Sera option she'd have taken it. It's fine that she doesn't want to be elfy, but there is no reason to be cruel to an inquisitor that does. I can't tell if Solas liked Sera or not. Some of the banter left me thinking yes, and some not so much. Not that I can think of anything specific right now.

A thought struck me while I remembered an earlier discussion about the qunari possibly being an "experiment breed" of elves with dragon blood. Iron Bull mentions that they "had to leave" but no one knows why. What if the breeding experiment was an attempt to breed a war-race to combat a blight? The new race was powerful but still couldn't fight the endless stream of darkspawn. Maybe they knew something about the dragon resistance to the blight? We don't have any idea if blights only happen on the continent we know. And would we acutally know if it happened on the other side of the sea? Also: had a nightmare about the ending of DA4 being that Solas in the end is forced to try and kill Lavellan to fulfill his plans. Cole stops him by stabbing him in the back, thus betraying one of his true friends to save his other true friend. This corrupts him, and then we have to fight and kill poor Cole Woke up feeling like there was a giant empty hole of angst in my chest, damn brain! Have been feeling down the entire day due to this

My weak mortal body could barely handle all the feels in a dream, just imagine to actually play through with my Lavellan *dies*. No srsly, they are not allowed to do that. This is my word. And as such, is beyond contestation. (epic movie quote is epic)

If they did have plans honestly, I hope so. But would they really have an important character be optional to the degree that Sera is? I mean Dorian is likely to be in Da4 but unlike Serra you can't avoid meeting him entirely the way you can her. I'm not a fan of the Sera is Andruil theory. I also doubt Sera was originally part of the long term plan. The fact that she and the Red Jenny stuff is all optional is indeed a good indication. It took me 2 PTs to warm up to her character (likely because I recruited her very late), but she's a lot of fun. I don't understand why she was poorly received. My theory is that it looks different to elves maybe because of their natural connection to the fade, which is the thing they originally all had in common. If the fade is like a realm of spirit, and the crossroads are a sort of in between place built by elves, then she's probably not seeing those colors and patterns with her physical eyes so much as she is seeing them as energy or magic. We know that spirits and the fade can appear differently, depending on how mortals perceive it. Weekes keeps hinting on twitter that it's not really a genetic difference between humans and elves, so I'm thinking it's more of a magical one. Sera, for whatever reasons, is in denial about there being other modes of perception beyond the physical. Thus eyes are eyes.

I've put this theory forward multiple times, but it always gets rejected on the basis that Geldauran, Anaris and Daern'athal are believed to be outcast Evanuris, and are called the Forgotten Ones. The only thing we really know about them from legend, other than cults for them still exist, and that Geldauran seemed to have been imprisoned for a time in the Arbor Wilds, is that Solas supposedly locked them up at the same time as the Evanuris. We have no idea what they looked like, what their real function was, or how they interacted with the Evanuris... or for that matter, what being "Forgotten" really means in Elvhen culture. They could have been working for the Titans for all we know, which certainly would have brought them into conflict with the other Evanuris who wanted to conquer them. I definitely think they have ties to the Titans. I'm not saying you're wrong necessarily, but we do know that Gelduran could write. It was in a rune, I believe, and it could have been done through a surrogate, so you still might be right. But the Titans are mountain/tectonic plate-sized beings. Writing a manifesto/vow of vengeance on a glyph/rune/wall in a people-sized temple is odd if they're that large. Not impossible. but weird. Especially since it was above ground and the Titans and dwarves are typically below ground. Now, the Forgotten Ones being allied with the Titans, sure. Could see that. The size of the Titans is definitely an issue, but I think on "human scale" they may work through proxies, like say Leliana or Valta.

Mostly we've heard of earthquake-scale stuff like the Titan that was stirring and causing problems in The Descent. However, there is no reason yet not to suppose that the Titans themselves may possess intelligence, and if they do, then I don't think it's impossible that a Titan could manipulate stone on a much smaller scale. Perhaps even carving a rune into stone.

He does say she's the farthest from what she *should* be. I agree about the things about her that annoy you. My characters didn't appreciate her attitudes on elfy stuff or Solas, but I respect the devs' not changing her character in order to make my character feel better about the Solas thing or anything else. The interaction seems more genuine that way. I haven't played through the romance, but again, that sounds in character for her. I can see how that would aggravate players, but it shouldn't have blindsided them given everything else she says in the game. Meh. Sera might be farthest from what she should be, but Solas also tells her, "We are not so far apart, you and I." He seems supportive of her work with the Red Jennies as well. Maybe Sera actually improved Solas' opinion of city elves. Maybe. Team Optimism! She certainly doesn't fit Solas' own description of city elves--powerless, clinging to memories of a better past and a few old traditions.
In addition to what Elessara said, I just don't like her general personality. She's so immature and lol random. Like the kids in high school who thought it was the height of comedy to draw dicks on the school desk. Yeah Sera, you stole their breeches. That's, uh... that's really funny. They are without pants now. We are fighting pantsless men. How hilarious. Not that I should be getting mad at people for making lame jokes.

Alright I wouldn't play because i was actually running away from allnew faded for her
;-;
I found this codex entry nearby and i finally understood why i'd never have heard about the forgotten ones before. The fr translation is unexpected. Grands déperdus. Grands would be great in this context Déperdus is from perdu that means lost, but there a second meaning to it as "get rid of", it could even be "losing oneself" or a part of oneself, always with this idea of loss of something. A bit hard to explain but i hope you understand all of these are really tied together i just don't have enough vocabulary to convey lol
There could have been an actual closer translation with our "forget" word, why specifically use this weird word we neeever use ? I really have never heard it before lol, it's unexpected here. So i never realized this was refering to the forgotten ones. Gee
But it could be a hint as to how to consider the intended meaning of "forgotten", for speculative purposes. There IS interesting stuff to investigate in the other languages ! So much work in sight, bleh

Which is like... we know there's some sort of Void in the Fade, but the current understanding is that it's part of the Fade rather than the whole of it

Which is like... we know there's some sort of Void in the Fade, but the current understanding is that it's part of the Fade rather than the whole of it It's Immaterial here, but aah really all these words for fade/void are getting confusing, thanksfully all the "important" words are pointed with a capital letter Our word for the void is the nothingness, but in Sera's banter about "what do you see when you look at the breach" she would answer emptiness when she could have used the nothingness or something like that as she does in english, it's confusing, maybe it was to sound less specific as she doens't really know what she's talking about (and doesn't want to) idk if I make sense lol. I don't remember what was her biggest fear from Here lies the abyss and I searched the internet a bit but there's 0 result because our community is this dead. I wish i'd remember ejrhmsghemzlehfq Ok I love this screencap I just took LOOK AT HIM omgzùhqzefqghmlzugemqlkzheflkqjgljKkfqjzhlkz THIS EXPRESSION !

Hello Awww...grumpy little Puddin Hey NightSymphony it's me Roxy from the other thread.....anyways it's good that people have found a site to talk about their favorite character in DA:I. I'm still ticked about what Bioware did but oh well. Hope I didn't confuse anyone. I figured it would be a bit more busy here but I guess not everyone has signed up yet.

We're at 45 pages and the thread was created 10 days ago. I mean, I know we have a ways to catch up to 6100+ pages but I think we've been going at a respectable pace ;D

Hey now I've seen how it can be close to 100 pages in 2 or 3 days on the last one. I just assumed not everyone knew about the new thread here.
