Some stuff you have to just take on faith. After all if I recall correctly BioWare never put in a bathroom on the first Normandy but they certainly had one in-universe. It's still not enough bunks, even if hot racking is just assumed. There are 8 bunks; since the 3 in the medbay should not be used for regular sleeping. Taking out Shep, the aliens squad Shep added on the Citadel and Liara; there are 26 people portrayed aboard the ship who would require sleeping quarters. Hot racking in 3 shifts only allows for 24. That's still 2 people left with no place to sleep. If they had planned to show hot racking, they would have put some crew asleep in those pods. I think what they originally thought they were doing is that there would be another deck or two between where you get on the elevator and the cargo bay that you just never get to see; but then the exterior of the ship is way too small (which is already something people have mentioned about Normandy and even Tempest). Tempest clearly doesn't have any additional decks to it but the bed count is reasonable for the crew; but does not include any of Ryder's squad.
If we're going to take something on faith here, why not take it on faith that Drack just rolls out a bedroll on the floor in the kitchen when everyone goes to sleep. He has one little satchel of 'spare parts" with him, so he's not scattering a bunch of stuff around the kitchen and making the kitchen unusable. Instead, he's undertaken to become the cook for the team... and he's apparently a very good cook.
The squad all picked their own spaces - Cora picked the bio lab for herself, Liam picked the cargo bay for himself and even moved in a couch. Lexi opted to sleep in the medbay. So, why should, all of sudden, Cora assume she's the one who has the authority to tell everyone else where they should sleep? She's overstepping Ryder and gets subtly put back in her place by Ryder's quiet refusal to allow her to take over the meeting. He's an unlikely candidate for leadership and has, at that point in time, a lot to learn about running a meeting. That meeting doesn't end well, and Ryder obviously knows it. The next meeting goes better. He/she is learning throughout the game.

I think you're asking for more than the game can provide. Let's pretend we can have some suspension of belief on this topic. Now, if you put this in the "Things that don't make sense" thread we can talk. It's not a matter of asking for more than the game can provide. If they wanted to portray hot racking, they could have just as easily taken some of the those extraneous people standing about the deck, and put them into the bunks. No additional resources required. The assumption you're making is that they thought this through. They didn't. That's why we're here discussing it. Otherwise, you have to assume they imagined the entire crew awake 24/7.

The assumption you're making is that they thought this through. They didn't. That's why we're here discussing it. Otherwise, you have to assume they imagined the entire crew awake 24/7. How am I assuming they thought it through when I'm expressly pointing out that they didn't. They plopped numerous ambient NPC's onto a ship without thinking about where those NPCs would sleep. They were unclear about just how big or small Normandy would be. They didn't think through that there would be ample military fire support on an Alliance vessel, making it completely unnecessary for Shepard to take on Tali, Garrus, and Wrex. They even had Shepard recruiting them before he/she even knew they would have their own ship and/or what size that ship might be, and/or what sort of crew support could automatically come with that ship. For all Shepard knew before hitting the loading dock, Udina could have been arranging with the Council to get Shepard aboard an Asari, Turian, Salarian, or another Council ship... one that he/she did not command but would be able to tell the captain to take him/her where they needed to go. Yet, you possibly have Shepard committing to finding missing marines and to finding a lost privateer before even leaving the Citadel Tower.

I have no clue about your sex life but let me tell you this... When a women (no matter how high class) is wet and wants the D it doesn't matter where you're at. Elevator, plane (stall or not), car, hood of car or even the damn bathroom. When she wants it, she wants it! Hell, she had been staring at his D for roughly 2 years. This is motherfucking Commander Shepard here. She was ready.... Well, in my day, things we less primitive and more... savored.
Still disappointing that they gave her such a lovely private space that was never used in the game at all At least Liara had a good crying jag on her bed..
Lol bullshit on the bolded. I know your age, and it doesn't matter. Porn has existed for centuries. People have been kinky since caveman clubbing and forbidden fruit. You are projecting your personal onto the world. Don't be a prism, be a lens. Regarding the argument about racking up... I see both sides of your argument. It never bothered me much; I guess I headcanon'd that there was a crew deck that we simply never went to for "reasons", and just let it go. I never thought that anyone slept where they "hung out". Kasumi and Tali like to drink/induction port. Garrus likes to calibrate. Liara is a workaholic. Miranda is the XO. Wrex farts a lot. A lot. Everyone sees their own flaws.

While I am truly flattered that you and Endless seem to be so interested in my romantic relationships, I believe it is really none of his or your business. I have romanced the same partner for more than 50 years and we both still prefer a candlelit dinner and retiring to a comfy bed to a quick bang anywhere else. No doubt there have always been variations within the population. To each their own. PS: His language was absolutely and unnecessarily foul and he deserved the response he got. If you think reflecting only the baseness of a society constitutes being a "lens", then I beg to differ.
... as for the second part. I too assumed there was another deck to the SR-1. The schematics of the SR-2 refuted that notion. It doesn't bother me either. Apparently, Drack sleeping in the kitchen on Tempest bothers someone else here and that is was spurred the conversation.

Wow.
No, @upagain, I was not talking about you or your partner. You were projecting your morality as temporal to your age. That is farcical. As individuals, that was your choice. Your day had nothing to do with it. That is the lens/prism... You are looking through your prism, rather than the lens of truth.
I was making no grand statements, and am confused about how you could have been offended by any of it tbh.

Can we please stop talking about sex? I've been watching the intro to ME2. Like ME1, ME2 is showing a substantially larger crew on the SR1 than they've allotted space for them aboard. We're shown that each escape pod holds at least 5 people, possibly 6. When the pod bank opens, there are clearly at least 6 of them and 5 leave the ship in that scene. Later on we are shown at least 9 falling away from the ship in space. We also know that at least 21 people did not make it off the ship. The exterior views of the Normandy SR-1 in the docks at the Citadel clearly show that the ships is not large enough tall enough to house more than 3 decks. .. The SR2, being significantly larger, should have had even more crew and, therefore, should have also had at least a couple of more decks, but those are not reflected on the elevator panel or in the schematic we're shown when Joker is using the ducts to get to the bottom of the ship. IRL, a small frigate has a crew of about 100.
The Tempest clearly shows that it doesn't have any decks that we're not accessing and they tell us at the start that the ship functions with only a handful of crew. As a result, we never see extraneous "extras" aboard the ship. There are sleeping spaces aboard the ship to accommodate the anticipated crew without hot racking. Ryder unexpectedly adds to that amount.
People here tend to have an agenda about Ryder being unassertive because they don't like the character and want Shepard back alive. However, the situation can be viewed differently. Without consulting with Ryder, Cora takes it upon herself to dictate where (and when, if hot racking) the new team members should sleep. It's not her job unless Ryder gives her that job. That Ryder ignores her and moves on with what he/she wants to discuss at the meeting is actually being assertive... putting a second in command in their place after they've overstepped their position (but doing it subtly without causing a big fuss or dressing her down publicly). At any rate, that's how I see it. If people want to role play Ryder as being a little more assertive, they have an opportunity to do so. If they want to just complain about Ryder being wishy-washy, then they can view the situation that way as well. The story is about Ryder being a noob and learning without a whole lot of help to be a Pathfinder. I enjoyed the change away from Shepard, but some people just don't want to let him go That's fine.
If Bioware panders to them, then we'll just wind up playing the same old Trilogy in new clothes over again... but that's Bioware's choice to make. I still have my copy of Andromeda that I can play when I want and if Bioware won't finish that story, I can still do it myself in 100 different ways. I'm really not expecting any really new ideas to come out of Bioware now. They'll probably just redress the OT. I'd be surprised though that, in the end, the fan base will like it (even though they'll be getting what they claim they want). The trend seems to be that the fans don't actually like anything. Hopefully, someday, we'll move away from this "culture" where hate gets likes. So, my speculation is that no matter what Bioware produces as a next Mass Effect game, the internet will erupt in the same sort of hate-mongering meme-fest that ME:A encountered.

Can we all just please stop talking about sex? Too mature a theme? Mature is certainly not the word I'd use to describe your depiction of it, regardless of whether or not I'm being a prism or a lens. BTW, reblocking you so I won't be reading your responses. Go ahead and make a fool of yourself all you want.

Isn't this all getting a little bit ridiculous? If Drack hadn't been said to be bunking in the galley, someone would be complaining that he wouldn't actually fit in any of the bunks in the crew quarters.

I asked another poster if they wouldn't prefer to not have a krogan in overcrowded conditions (given EDI's description about how that effects them). Drack chose the kitchen because he cooks. Otherwise, the space that probably makes the most sense is the Tech Lab (which Jaal takes over later). That's where PeeBee should have logically chosen to be given her interest in tech. When Jaal was brought aboard, they should have perhaps set up a cot in the comms area. Of course, all of this would have been better resolved if Bioware just planned their ship designs to fit the number of crew they anticipate putting on them.

In general, it's not useful to engage with silly joke posts. I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about now. I posted a reply to Hanako not really addressing her post but just trying to get this thread back on topic... speculating about ME5. I'm hoping the next ME games put a little more thought into the size of the ships relative to the size of the crews they want to portray as operating them. I'd like to be shown adequate living spaces for the squad especially. If hot racking is portrayed, then I'd like to see some NPC's asleep in the bunks at all hours of the day/night. If there's an extra deck on the ship that we don't get to see/access, then I'd like to have it shown to us somehow... perhaps have the elevator skip over a number without stopping or something like that. Am I the only one still on topic here?
If you're going on about my original post about how it was a shame that they didn't use Miranda's quarters for the romance scene in ME2, then I would say my comment was exceptionally tame compared with the foul-mouth response it got from Endless... and yes, I should have never responded to him.. He's staying blocked this time, so I won't be responding to him ever again. I trust this ends this issue... and we can get back on topic now?

We were on topic until you got all butt-hurt about me saying this... You somehow came to the conclusion that this was an insult on your sex life. You sure as hell have thin skin if that's the case! The entire conversation was about Miranda until you flew off the rails...

It was entirely about Miranda, then went into something like "in my day" and somehow that got twisted into "why are you talking about my sex life". Anyway, Miranda is a hot, shapely woman who has a naughty side that's into public sex. She's also smart and competent but Shepard really only cares about the naughty side.
Now, I've never played this romance. Should be obvious. What I do know is that the Miranda in ME2 had changed in ME3. She seemed to be more "human", more well-rounded in her behavior toward others. I've seen videos of it, including when Shepard dumped her. There was that something in her voice that felt hurt by the rejection. Similarly, I've seen her die while romanced and, I don't know, I liked the Miranda we had in ME3 more than ME2.

So there's now a rumour being spread (by a guy with sources, take it how you will) that DA:4 is at least 3 years away. If this true, factoring this in, can I just say that I fully look forward to playing ME:5 ... on my quantum computer, in immersive virtual reality, sometime in the next century , which should be right around when Elder Scrolls 6 is released.
