So something just hit me. In 'Open World' games or RPGs in general exploration tends to be a pretty big part of the gameplay loop. The trouble is not all of these 'open world activities' are created equal. Some can be quite fun and enjoyable while some can be frustrating or...just not something you would ever do. Problem 1 here is that most such games do not distinguish such activities on the map especially on a first playthrough. They are hidden behind a fog of war, question marks, or multi colored dots...and it is up to the player to discover which is which until they get right on top of them...often wasting time that could've been spent elsewhere. Problem 2 is this is further exasberated in repeat playthroughts (especially in games with NG +) that you have already spent the first playthrough exploring and trying out the game in all of its glory...but you might not feel as inclined on repeat Playthroughs of a game...to try and do everything again. And yet players still might feel like still doing some of them on repeat playthroughs because those are fun...like for the Witcher I will always want to clear out any of the bandit camps or monster nests because I enjoy the combat and feel a sense of accomplishment when settlers return to the area...or like in Vahalla I will probably always want to do Drenger fights and monster fights...etc...but in either case I could be put off by the mere fact in both games it tends to be a bit of a crap shoot approaching these areas what you'll get.
The solution here is to be able to buy maps or something similar which you can even be transferred over to a NG. These maps can let you know where certain activities are in the game/ area. So if you like doing bandit camps you can buy a map which shows you where every bandit camp is in say...Tevinter. This can also work for just a single Playthrough too if you are that impatient but the goal here is to let players tailor their experience so they aren't wasting time on repeat playthroughs doing things they may not like...which could put them off doing a new PT entirely.

I'm gonna make a thread on the Grey Wardens soon enough, but since the game is in Tevinter I want to know more about the relationship between the Wardens and The Imperium.
We know the Wardens were founded former soldiers of the Imperium, we know the darkspawn were (supposedly) created by the magisters, but despite them being both being very close in pivotal moments of Thedas history we know very little about the relations between either of them.
Someone who's more well read in DA lore will create me big time if I'm wrong here, but I don't think we've ever met a Tevinter Grey Warden in game, or if they even have a presence there. The Wardens we have met are either Ferelden, Orlesian or in Duncan's case partially Rivaini.

Well your probably going to see more Tevinter Wardens IN Tevinter, just like there are lots of Orlesian ones in orlais. But, since Tevinter has been in basically a constant state of war with the qunari to one degree or another (usually over seheron) for quite some time I suspect fighters from there might not join the wardens very much, them having more urgent things to do. And of course their poor/slaves aren't free to leave.
And the wardens have to use the right of conscription carefully or risk pissing nations/groups off, their probably wary of using it to take soldiers away from a nation at war. I wouldn't actually be surprised if we saw more Anders and Nevarran Wardens instead.

Some small amount of randomness to certain quests.
In Dishonored I really liked that the mission mission to assassinate Lady Boyle the target is randomized between three of the Boyle sisters with each wearing a different color. If you only wanted to get the right one you had to do a little investigating first to find what color she is wearing.
If aspects like that could be worked into the next DA game that would be great.

So in a note kind of teasing another post in another thread of mine...and also to prempt my usual spiel I do every time I finish a game I think BioWare could learn something from...
For the love of the Maker DON'T have an overreliance on puzzles. Now I know this is something BioWare has had some mixed results on in the past...ME 1 didn't have very good puzzles but DAI did...given that they were more or less entirely optional...I do not think I did one of them. But they were few and far between.
The main issue here though is that they could be looking at their compeition...and trends...which I don't blame them for...and admittedly this is something that could be easier maybe with modern console features...but AC Vahalla has just way too many puzzles and I am NOT good at them so its probbaly adding a great deal of time to this playthrough and is generally one of the two things that is really dragging Vahalla down, both in terms of time commitment and fun factor.

I wish Qunari and Elfs look more animalistic in DA4, maybe a lot more like their Tarot Card depictions at the start of Inquisition. For the elves anyway, it wuld be good to get away from the not !nothuman look they have

I hope they make dwarf ladies a little stockier.
I know DAO's orangutan arms were distracting, but there's something... off about the proportions in DAI, too. The shoulders feel way too narrow for the hips. But maybe that's just me, and I'm jelly of how dwarfy and solid the male dwarves look. :'D
**they do look gud in the Inquisition scout armor though! I guess because it's heavier than the Carta coat or usual Inquisitor gear.

Demony demons.
I want them to be clever, sinister, and terrifying: especially the higher level ones. Now that the rifts are closed the next game hopefully won’t use them as mobs and cannon fodder, I’d love them to flesh out their demons in storylines. Bring back desire demons, and have the new demons folded into the lore more. And please, no ridiculous -choice spirit- voice acting. Imsheal was completely laughable in DAI, I want them to make the demons in the world horrifying, like they’re supposed to be.

So just finished with AC Vahalla and as with games past there are things I think that BioWare can learn from other productions out there and things I would like to see in DA 4...keeping in mind of course all of these could be hard to implement for various reasons. The Inventory:So its been my long standing constant gripe with RPGs in general is how they handle Inventory. The idea that you can collect up to sixty random swords that you just have to sell later and use up oten a whole lot of time doing so has two major strikes against it...its neither fun nor realistic. Vahalla solves that problem with each piece of gear being unique in the entire game. You don't just have random swords you collect but there are chests hidden throughout the world which gives you access to new pieces of armor and weapons. Only thing is I hope BioWare does expand on this by letting you have weapons and armor as things like quest rewards...but otherwise I don't see much downside. The combatI loved the combat in this game. It had everything in it that I was asking for and is the best combat system...at least in a *sword and sorcery* RPG. It was smooth, fast paced, and you could killall the human enemies fairly easily as long as you know what you are doing. Afterall a normal human shouldn't take five minutes and fifteen arrow shafts to bring down. Plus I really do appreciate Eivor's more 'bad ass normal' style of doing things and all the clever ways to kill someone...like reversing people's projectiles back at them, rolling over them when you are dodging, and throwing their weapons back at them. This could all work really well whether the next DA goes classless or maintains the full classes. The issue is two fold. 1. DA does not have normal humans in it...just normal humans. We have dragons, monsters, abominations...and magic. All things which could make our opponents that much harder to kill. And 2. Given that there are companions in Dragon Age this could throw off the difficulty curve and make it even easier and more boring this could necessitate them meaning that less realistic, but still more fun. Though Inquisition was kind of heading into this direction anyways. Abilities/ Skills/ LevellingNow right before Vahalla's marketing started to kick into gear I speculated that it might be nice instead of having a skill tree where you had access to everything at the beginning and could build your character accordingly...like most games handle it, Odyssey, Inquisition, etc....it might be nice to have a system where you have to go out and learn your abilities in the world. Questing, or exploration. Vahalla did just this by making it so you had to go out and explore and find these books that gave you abilities. Nice touch. Just that they kind of had their cake and ate it too with a massive skill tree where you did not have much choice but what to prioritize as you levelled through it. Nevertheless I think this can be adapted into the next dragon age...but kind of more on that in a minute. Distrust AreasIn Vahalla we had these areas where Eivor could go into and not be attacked on sight and could just go around as long as they did not draw attention to themselves...except they were usually attacked on sight despite doing nothing. So great idea, poor execution. Now assuming that DA 4 does maintain at least some of the clandestine activities we could see something similar. Especially in regards to the Noteriety system that I had mentioned earlier. So the idea being that there are areas in the world where the DA 4 protag may not be welcome, you can go into them, but they do not instantly attack you. Yet if you are doing a bad job at certain things then maybe they will be more aware of you...have more defenses set up, more guards, more alert for suspicious activity. Etc. FlytingAKA Viking Rap battles. Or word battles. Or ways of gaining charisma points... Which is the most pertinent example. Because I have been going back and forth on one bit from the DA games to this point...its how you distribute your attribute points. I have been debating on this from just getting rid of them, going back to how they were handled, making them even beefier like with FO... This is another way of doing it. To keep with the theme here that instead gaining attribute points is something you do in the world rather then just levelling it up...via these mini games. Constitution could be improved by drinking games. Dex could be improved by knife throwing contests or arcery contests and cunning can be improved by word battles or riddles or things o that nature. dazk Hrungr

I'm definitely a fan of their move to having unique gear. Yes, there are balance issues, the variety is limited, and I suspect working during a pandemic is the source of many of the game's woes, but the idea was sound. There is one notable downside in the early hours of gaming though. The time when you're running around with poor weapons and armor, and everyone you fight has better gear... but you can't pick any of it up. And in some respects, AC:V just traded one kind of clutter (gear) for another (runes/junk items/quest items that are never removed). They should have limited the runes to just one of each, and treat them as schematics. So if you have it, you can apply it to any slot you like (perhaps with a small cost). There is also the crafting conundrum. Having unique gear as rewards is great... for some games. But in games with robust crafting systems (like DA:I), it can limit the value of unique gear. Of course, it'll depend on your playstyle as well, as some don't want the hassle of crafting. For me, outside of the early going in the game, anything other than crafted gear in DAI is essentially junk. I love crafting/tinting/transmog systems myself. While AC:V had some neat gear ideas, I still preferred AC: Odyssey's implementation overall (except the clutter).

Headgear Tiaras, crowns, earrings, and circlets. I know we loooooove our realism but I just want some magical pretty headgear. There's literally no reason to not hide helmets in DA:I. All the helmets are just ATROCIOUS, even more atrocious than the armors! That cannot continue when we enter the world of Tevinter and it's very much practical fashion! /s
Animals No more mabari. No more nugs. I mean they can exist I'm not saying kill all mabari and nugs, just that I'd like some diversity in the pool of (domesticated?) animals that exist in Thedas. Still a bit sad we didn't get Dorian's monkey animal companion like in his concept art. More diverse animals wildlife in general and new pets, please.
Romance/NPCs Can we get a freaking dwarf dude who loves the dudes FINALLY?! There are literally zero non-PC dwarf dudes in the entire Dragon Age universe who are shown to like manloving, correct me if I'm wrong though. It's a disgrace and I won't have it. Fix it in DA4, even at the cost of a Harding romance, yeah, there, I said it, and I'm not ashamed.
Airship I fucking love airships. I'm not holding my breath but... sky pirates, hell yeah.

Look at this glorious gay dwarf romance, Bioware! It can be done! There's a brief moment in the Dwarf Commoner origin where, if you're playing a dude, your asshole mom sees you in nice clothes - "Did the Prince decide he likes boys, or did you find some other way to bring in coin?".... and that's it as far as gay dwarf references go. Hypothetical gay dwarf prostitution. D;

While AC:V had some neat gear ideas, I still preferred AC: Odyssey's implementation overall (except the clutter). I suppose it all comes down to whether or not the unique gears would make it easier or harder to create crafting schematics. I would almost think it would be easier honestly given you may be working with fewer overall assets and looks...well that is the theory anyways because the one weird thing about this is all the Hunter Bows in Vahalla basically looked the same...just with different stats. And as far as crafting is concerned in general I also don't really see this being an issue long term. Whether they go with my suggestions to improve DAIs crafting or stick with it as is... Well actually now that i am thinking about it what they *could* do is not actually let you loot any gear in the game but the chests and the quest rewards and the like will just give you access to schematics which you will have to craft yourself. Oh like Breakpoint's system almost.

A happenstance scenario where our protagonist is roped into a ship battle between Tevinter and the Qunari and who you side with has consequences for the random helpless orphanage off yonder!
Actually, speaking of orphans, it would be a unique move for BioWare if we were tasked with a child companion who we protect over the course of our journey while he/she searches for someone or is the key to something
Kind of like Kratos and that kid.

Small (I think) things I want to see:
1. If there's a dog, LET ME PET THE DAMN DOG. Even reuse Cullen's animation from Trespasser, I don't care, just let me see my character pet the dog.
2. Cats. Okay, that's probably too much to ask... or is it?
3. If we're dealing with an open world, let me be able to put multiple custom markers on the map. Possibly different-looking, so I can pin "high-level enemy areas" and such, but even just simple pins would be fine.
4. So, I loved all the lore the War Table gave us, but some of them had just too long of a timer. If we have some sort of war table-like text-based missions, they shouldn't be longer than, say, 3 hours. Also, if we're going for text-based quests, we might as well go all the way, give us more options, more text questlines, it's all text anyway, no need for it to be voiced & animated after all.
5. Auto-loot from dead enemies. Maybe make it optional for people who want to see the looting animation.
6. Set the banter interval time to a 100% guaranteed banter line every 5 to 10 minutes, not that 50% chance every 10 to 20 as in Inquisition. It breaks my heart to see there are over 5 hours of banter and yet it feels like you experience barely more than an hour or so of it.
7. "Speech bubbles" over minor NPCs instead of them using the space reserved to subtitles. Sometimes multiple ambience conversations overlap in Inquisition if you don't stop while listening to them, and the subtitles stop working. They should ideally revert to DA:O and 2 system of simply putting their lines over their heads, leaving the subtitle space for actually important NPCs.

If there's a cat, let us pet it as well (as long as feline overlord allows it). If there are other fluffy (and not so fluffy) animal companions, LET US PET IT. I wanted to give Urz all my love

I'm pretty easy-osey about what we get in DA4, I'm sure I'll enjoy whatever game they make. The only thing I would like, which is probably not a popular opinion, is for Bioware to ditch the open world thing. It didn't add anything worth playing in DAI IMHO.

BioWare … fix the farkin' game accounting issues with Frostbite. I think it is probably more an issue with MP … but seriously doubt SP is unaffected.
Not as noticeable in SP … but in MEAMP, it really is noticeable … types of kills incorrect, source of kill incorrect, achievements not logged properly.
In Anthem, it was gross … I could get three, sometimes four completion banners for various challenges (multi-kill, weak points, factions, combos, gear). Or I'd check my progress, see 13 of 15 complete, then five minutes later, 8 of 15. Or show all things complete, go back to the fort and show one or two challenges still not complete. Or have completion hang at 29 of 30 … unable to progress, get back to the fort, challenge complete.
It's a Frostbite issue, so if it exists in MEA and Anthem, it's going to exist in DA4 … unless your devs fix it BioWare.
This is like the sound bug in MEA … you gaffed it off in MEAMP (what sound bug?!? lemme check into that! … *crickets*). Finally, you addressed the FB sound bug during beta testing in Anthem.
But the FB game accounting issue is there, it is obvious, but the entire time Anthem was a "live service" game, you couldn't be arsed to fix that bug. Now Anthem support is dead … never fixed … that is a load of "something."
New game in development, a lot riding on its success, how about working the FB game accounting issue now? Ya know, before releasing the game in two years.
OK, different subject … load screens … MEA wasn't great, but it wasn't off the charts awful. Anthem was awful. Don't inflict us with the load screen nightmare of your last effort. MELE has greatly improved load screens for ME1 … learn from that lesson … long, laborious load screens suck, do better.
Both of the above are game engine issues … but they will detract from the story you tell us, our progress through that story … turning what should be a challenging and enjoyable experience into something that becomes tedious and frustrating. Don't let this happen. Poor facial animations spawned memes for MEA from which it never recovered … get the load mechanics and game accounting running smoothly … avoid those pitfalls. BioWare, pls.

It's kinda embarrassing. But I'd like black hair, black eyebrows and black eyes to come back in dragon age... ( And no, dark blue hair isn't black hair. Also in MEA, we couldn't have black eyes either ) Here : These eyes are the darkest I could pick. I wanted them black. By the way I'm starting to wonder if one day I will ever be able to create a dark skinned character with good options, the whole package, like having good AND different skin color options, from light to dark, good AND different black hairstyles, from shortest to longer haircut, black hair, black eyes, black eyesbrows and good black facial features. Would be nice and appreciated. I always feel that one of these things is missing in every game that allows me to create one. DA:I was the game that was the closest to satisfy me entirely though. Having said that, I'd state that Jacob in Mass effect 2 had one of the most satisfying and realistic black hairstyle but of course Bioware didn't allow the players to pick that option in the CC... Otherwise I'd also like to see......I don't know, long hair for black female characters in the character creator in Boware's games ? Is it too hard to see that sort of hairstyle ( the one on the right with braids ) in a video game ? Something similar ? There are numerous possibilities, have some imagination for god's sake. Buzzcut are getting old. ( take inspiration from Skyrim please, a game released in 2011....)

I have a wish, in fact a wish I already had in the previous games and in Mass Effect games.
I wish for one or two missions that allow the player the stealthy approach instead of always going in guns blazing massacring everyone. With the option to go in alone with no other party members. Hide in the shadows, maybe having to eavesdrop on some important conversations, carefully dodging guards etc.
I've always been a huge fan of well done stealth in games, when games provide me with an alternate way of playing a certain section of the story, that helps replayability and offers some variety.

Sounds a lot like the first half of ME2's Arrival DLC. Unless Shepard was an infiltrator, not technically cloaked, but solo and lots of hiding.
You had the option of going in guns blazing, but you also had the option of sneaking around and eavesdropping …
That continued up through freeing Dr. Amanda Kenson … from there on out, it was guns blazing.
To a lessor degree, Joker regaining control of the Normandy SR-2 from the Collectors met that criteria … solo (with EDI's help), evading.
Like you say, interesting as a bit of a one off, but not really wanting to play the whole game (or most of the game) that way.

I agree with this one hundred percent but I also think this kindof thing would neccessitate a complete change in how the franchise has handled stealth to this point. It can't just be a *poof* in a puff of smoke and your character is available you will need more things like visual detection bars that you see in games and other stuff of that nature and taking into account things like shadows and lighting and time of day.
