Sure. Why is it when the Inquisitor has their weapon out, they run slower? Why can't he/she run the same speed as when they don't have their weapon in hand? It's not the first game in which I saw speed penalty for running with an unsheathed weapon. The idea is that having a weapon drawn impedes movement. So it may have been a design choice unless it was some sort of limitation on the programming side. We just don't know, but I wouldn't mind running at comparable speeds with both weapon drawn or not. At the very least there might not be a penalty for running with lighter or more wieldy weapon; I get that running with a heavy two-hander or sword and board actually could slow the person down. Of course, if we get dodge or sprint or dash, that problem is mitigated.

But when you can pause during combat, why would that matter? My main gripe is when there are no enemies around but the game still has me in "combat mode" because some fennec got a wild hair up its rear half way across the map OR when I'm trying to stealth my way somewhere. I still can't run properly, whether my weapons are out or not.

I still can't run properly, whether my weapons are out or not. I look at FF XV as a good example where going "full speed" in combat, even with minimally controllable companions, and a pause feature, can result in chaotic fights against anything more than 2 or 3 opponents. It can be a lot to process/follow while combat is going on, especially when your companions can be scattered around the battlefield. That I said, I absolutely agree that getting unnecessarily stuck in combat mode is super-annoying. Especially when some random wildlife stubs their toe and pulls everyone into combat mode.

Being stuck in combat mode seems to be a thing in lots of games, MEA being the latest Bioware game to experience it!!! Yesterday I wanted to save and quit but couldn't because the game thought I was in combat mode and there wasn't a Fennec Kaerkyn anywhere to be seen.

I'd kill for what happened with DAI. As we got closer and closer, every few weeks they'd reveal a new companion, they'd drop a name in a tweet, they'd come to the forums and talk about a character's motivations or their sexuality or what kind of food they'd be if they were a food.... :sob: I want to know what kind of character we'll be playing, if there are multiple races, who the VAs are. I'll take leaked concept art, rumors of a title, a decent guess at what our role in the story is going to be... pls biowar. been waitin four years. am starting to rust

This old video on multiple playable races in DAI reminds me how much I appreciate this feature. I love his quote here: "Race is more than just 'how do I look' in Dragon Age. It's really the idea of, as an elf, you're an underdog, right. As a dwarf, if you're on the surface you are by default, you are outcast from your own society. That's intriguing and that's interesting." Also... lolol, dwarf stans gettin called out like this 😎 Darrah: "I mean, dwarven players are extremely passionate about their racial selection." Laidlaw: "You don't anger the dwarf fans. They're prepared to go to war." I feel attacked

That and because they showed off gameplay so early, we saw a lot of things that either got cut or changed significantly. And I remember that cloud kinda hanging over the launch. This is why I think the Bethesda approach (short, intense marketing campaign) is the still best way to go...

I definitely prefer a DAI pre-release route to a MEA pre-release route for future games. There are so many fun memories from DAI's pre-release cycle.

I prefer Fallout 4 marketing.
Don't even announce the game until five months before release.

Waiting for DAI was kind of unbearable but it was still somehow fun. I liked getting all the info and trailers. I don't think I had ever been that excited for a game release before. There was some promotional like...click-and-find game they had before its release, and if you finished them you got some small in-game items for dai? It was just so much fun! Theorizing with people about what was in the new trailers.
Although I do see the downside. I remember a lot of features promised for DAI that never came to be (Does anyone else remember early info about the game saying that when you captured a keep, you'd get to choose if it was for spying/soldiers/communication or something? I swear I remember that lol)
but idk. Even if some features get cut, I think i'd prefer that to the silence that came with MEA. It makes me nervous lmfao.

I do not prefer any kind marketing. Just announce the game, and release it. Does not matter if you reveal information about it or not.

Speculation is half the fun of being part of a fandom. The title, trailers, dev tweets, interviews, etc give us things to speculate and get excited about. DAI was by far the most excited I've ever been about a game prior to release. I kept saying before MEA released there wasn't anything getting me excited. So I definitely prefer DAI approach.

I prefer to go I to my games completely blind, so long info cycles like DAI drive me away from the forum for months. I want everything about a new game to be a surprise. That's impossible to pull off while riding the hype train when even thread titles spoil companions or locations.

I want to kill a lot of elves. Solas' minions especially. While being an elf! Wasn't DA:I kind of devoid of massacring bunch of elves? Oh wait no the well quest! Well ancient elves I don't really feel like killing honestly. I like their armor.
Bring on the hordes of Solas' elven minions, it will feel so GOOD. I would also like a quest to liberate some of the elves.

My main gripe is when there are no enemies around but the game still has me in "combat mode" because some fennec got a wild hair up its rear half way across the map OR when I'm trying to stealth my way somewhere. Funny you should mention that - I was just getting ready to add a couple of things to the wishlist, and that is one of them. I remember one time in particular, in the Hinterlands I was trying to access some quest-related items on the top of a hill. I couldn't, because I was kicked into combat mode. It took me awhile to figure out there was a bear wandering around some 50+ meters away. I had to chase it down and kill it before I could proceed. The other thing I'd like to add to the wishlist is better walk/run animations for female characters. The ones used in DA2 and DAI look like the characters are strutting down a runaway seeking sexual attention. A more natural gait would be very welcome.
