The areas were criticized for being too large and full of fetch quest design. That's a sign of them not designing large maps well. I thought some areas were too big and 3 were to many desert areas. Thought Decent and JOH were perfect size with lots a fun quests. Think I'm in the minority but I the Hinterlands was really fun and pretty. I like the Hinterlands too. I always do almost all of it each time I play, and get on a horse and canter about.

It's not taboo. We're just tired of the comparison. I played TW2 ad TW3 twice. They did a lot right with world and quest design. But they can't hold a candle to Bioware's relationship system and frankly, they can't handle multiple questline endings from one game to the next ie the things you did in TW2 didn't carry over at all and the game may well as never happened for as much good it did you to side with any one person or cause. I'm not posting TW3 to troll. My very first BSN post was about level design. I was frustrated they got so much right, but completely ignored the dynamics of an ambient, living game world. And when I bring this up, I'm always told to fuck off. I don't get it. They clearly don't do this well and it seems fans aren't tasking them to even try and improve. Do we want city hubs in DA4 where NPCs seem alive or do we want everyone rooted in place with no day/night cycle and no dynamic AI?

Do we want city hubs in DA4 where NPCs seem alive or do we want everyone rooted in place with no day/night cycle and no dynamic AI? I'm not telling you to fuck off, I hope I didn't give you that impression. If you come in with comments about Witcher reasonably, without claiming CDPR is 100% perfect, then I am far more willing to meet you halfway. It's not that I'm unaware that Val Royeux was awful. And plenty of fans have complained/taken them to task about it. To me, it's about the the Time/money pie. Bioware dumps their money into the best CC I've used and multiple races and both genders. Bioware dumps HUGE amounts of money into having 6+ companions that feel ALIVE with different arcs that have an effect on their personality and goals. They dump money into cameos and little touches that make it feel like the series is cohesive. CDPR didn't do that. They spent their time/money pie on a living world and a lack of fetch quests. Which is great. But they force the player into romantic entanglements that you have to wrangle yourself out of. And I still don't really know if I, the player, like Dandelion or just tolerated him good naturedly, but Geralt would call him a friend. What I did in TW2 did not matter in TW3. At the end of the day, I prefer being a female whatever exploring who I am and who I'm friends with... with living companion characters. I don't care much how real looking the trees are. That's just a backdrop to me. So I suppose in conclusion, I just see it not as "Bioware was too incompent to do it better!" But that "Bioware spent their time/money pie this way, instead of he CDPR way."

Thanks, @dustyelf , I was super confused and needed that clarification. I hope you understood mine as well, you know, the part where I made no claim to speaking for 100% of fans. I'll assume we're both clear on the matter and need not clutter the forum with further clarifications.

Personally, I am indifferent about weather and day/night cycles, so them ignoring it is not a big deal to me. Not having third-person? That is a deal breaker for me. Cutting out or greatly reducing single player and not having companions? Huge issue for me. Weather? Either way is fine for me.

No doubt that's true the other way around as well, both franchises can learn from each other and grow instead of snarling at each other from their own corners right?

I don't think NPCs seem particularly great in TW3 compared to other games in general. Lots of games manage to create the ambience of a "living city" in my opinion. GTA, Watch_Dogs, HZD, etc etc.
BioWare doesn't seem to be able to figure it out for some reason, but it's not as though TW3 is some holy grail of gaming that succeeds where every other product fails. Populating an environment with a bunch of moving, non-interactive objects is something games have been doing quite well since the PS2 era.

When facing Solas, in Trespasser, the player gets a dialogue option, "Not really, no". It causes Solas to give a very brief explanation of who he is, what happened to his people and what he intends to do. I like this version. I like to see something like that again for the next game.

Is that the one that's only available if the IQ never asked Solas a question for the entire game? That was pretty cool to watch, he was so frustrated that no one had been lapping up his wisdom. It's one of those seldom seen moments that really rewards playing in a different way, I love to see that in a game.

When Solas asks if you want an explanation you can say 'not really no', which is only available if you didn't ask him stuff at Haven/Skyhold. Iirc he'll then give a shorter explanation than usual.

Uhm, why not a have a town or city are look like...a town or city area? No Bioware game comes close to doing this. That's what Denerim was suppose to look like. If only BioWare wasn't lazy they could've made Dragon Age an epic game. Disappointing, really.

Oblivion's Imperial City felt like much more of a real city to me than Novigrad, even though the latter was more beautiful.
Witcher 3 was a great game, but it shouldn't be forgotten that Dragon Age has done many things better. Certainly combat and character-building.

Witcher 3 was a great game, but it shouldn't be forgotten that Dragon Age has done many things better. Certainly combat and character-building. Please. Combat in Witcher 3 is fluid and fun to play compared to Inquisition mediocre MMO combat system. I can attack, dodge, block, and parry without any pesky ability buttons to press and wait for each individual cooldowns to use them again. And Novigrad is more alive and feels like a real city more than Imperial City itself. I mean don't give me wrong, Oblivion is a good game and the open world design is phenomenal and fun to explore. I rather play Oblivion than Origins anyways.
