Strahovski's character I found to be the most interesting As good an actress as Elizabeth Moss is, I don't really like her character, I mean, she's facing an interesting drama in her life, but her character is fairly unremarkable. Serena Joy, on the other hand, is in a much more interesting position in the setting and has a much more difficult dilemma in front of her. And here's something I didn't know; Fay Dunaway played that role as well, in the 1990 film by the same name. Faye Dunaway, who played Evelyn Mulwray in Chinatown, which is, I believe, the character Miranda Lawson is based on, even with a sci-fi twist to her and one of my favourite female characters ever, as well. Hope you will excuse my autistic sperging out, I just like that movie very much and I find these types of coincidences a little unusual.

Same goes for the husband. Both are awful people. (I don't take too kindly to cheating and then laughing about it.) Not saying she deserves what happened to her but her constant stupidity on top makes me wish they killed her off and focused on Serena and Lydia. Or maybe, just maybe try to create a believable dystopia instead of the fear mongering propaganda this show is that young white women leap up like crack and start developing delusional feelings of oppression. Sorry, I have nothing nice to say about this artificial gender war...

I love how over it everyone is in this thread. Eh, it's been two months by now. What's been said about Anthem has been said. The only LIVE part of this Live Service game, was the feedback of the trainwreck that it was. Too harsh? Too harsh. I'm sorry. June to me is possibly the most unlikable heroine ever Well, I've not yet seen season two, but in season one, she was okay. Nothing to write home about, I guess, but eh? Or maybe, just maybe try to create a believable dystopia instead of the fear mongering propaganda this show is that young white women leap up like crack and start developing delusional feelings of oppression. I really liked the scene in the first season where Alexis Bledel's character goes on trial, along with her wife and then the latter gets hung in front of the other. Which was both a very cool and raw scene that I had to stop and process, as well as the ending to that episode with what happens to Emily. That's the dystopian stuff that gripped me so much in the first season and it's powerful imagery and performance that isn't present throughout the show. It portrays both a harsh and a much lenient representation of the Gilead regime.

I've been playing games for about 25 years, started with the GameBoy when I was nine years old. First console at age 12. Back then the games I played often had cartoon protagonist, many not even human. In my teens I got into JRPGs because those were basically the only RPGs on console. While the main character was usually male, it was always a group of girls and boys. So I wasn't actually playing some guy a lot or at least didn't feel like I was playing a guy game with female characters as damsels. I disliked western games because they all seemed to be war shooters and other games aimed at teenage boys. Instead I bought girly games like Viva Pinata, hahaha. I'm a lot older than you, and grew up in a very different era. An era where men made all the money and decisions, and women cooked, cleaned, and served them coffee. I was out with some college friends when we saw a Pac-Man game at a bar for the first time and pretty much marveled over it. Later on, the first (Atari) home systems hit the market; you could play Pong at home. I was in the military, stationed on a remote island when I bought my first computer - a Commodore 64 - and spent many long hours playing an RPG called Phantasie on it. The characters were little blobs of pixels called sprites. Beyond that, I didn't have much time for gaming. I played a few games - mostly strategy and simulations - on PC once that became a thing, but spent most of my adulthood building a career and dealing with other responsibilities. On a whim I bought myself a PS3 for Christmas in 2010 along with a copy of DAO and that was pretty much the gateway drug for me - lol. I was hooked. Right there with ya. After several playthroughs of DAO, I picked up DA2. Hanging around the old BSN got me to try the ME trilogy. For me, BioWare Magic TM has always been about the worlds, the lore, the characters, including romance. Those are the elements that get me invested. The novelty still hasn't worn off for me yet. I suspect it's because I spent a lot more years of my life watching men do all the cool and interesting stuff while women sat in the bleachers and cheered. I don't play many action games. When I game, I want to get immersed in that world and its events, which for me usually means investment in character(s). I've also invested a lot more hours in BioWare games than Bethesda's. Shepard is (mostly) a joy to play. (I've learned to ignore the occasional WTF line.) And I love the fact that, while ME is a competent shooter, it's more than that with the various other skills - and squad coordination - at your disposal. You mentioned perspective, though, and that's a huge factor for me. Here I am, playing DAO for the umpteenth time, but everything feels new and different because I'm playing a character I've never played before. (I'd done a dwarf commoner before, but never the dwarf noble origin.) He doesn't quite understand the fear and isolation of mages and magic, or the power of the Chantry. Agreed. I also differentiate between gaming and other forms of media. I can watch a 2-hour movie - or even an entire series - and enjoy a wide variety of stories featuring the same-old same-old because it doesn't take much effort on my part. Gaming is an entirely different deal, since I need to act and make decisions on behalf of the character. If a character doesn't give me anything interesting to work with, I won't bother. I guess your interpretation of this "current feminist ideal" is different from mine. Social media is the debil, imho. Too many extreme views getting far too much attention. As for Handmaid's Tale, I've managed to mostly ignore it thus far. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Thanks for the chat.

I figured. I'm in my thirties. I grew up spoiled and at a time when Nintendo took off and videogames became normal for any child, boy or girl. PC gaming was the domain of nerdy guys, I suppose, but consoles had plenty to offer for me. Funny tidbit, one of my most played games on the Super Nintendo was Sim City. So there I was at 12 enjoying the cuteness of Yoshi's Island and at the same time playing a city builder, haha. o much for not being nerdy. *g*
As a kid I DID think boys had it better, had cooler toys, were allowed to do more dangerous things, and I actually wished I could be a boy. I was a total tomboy, like skateboards and hated dresses and skirts. Found them very unpractical from a young age and that never changed. But really, I had an equal amount of boy and girl toys and interests. Which just goes to show that a lot of it is social.
That makes sense. I grew up not only having pretty equal opportunities but also with a single mom who made good money. Self-employed she had more money than my dad ever had. My mom was always my grandpa's favorite child, not my uncle. Even my grandma from a peasant family married a refugee from a part of Germany that after the war was no longer part of it against her family's will. She wanted that man, she got him. While she only ever worked women's jobs (cleaning and so on) she was a confident woman who always got her way (one of her sisters resented her a little for that). As you can see, I grew up in a very positive environment.
I was raised allowed to do whatever I pleased. When I was 14 I wanted to be an FBI agent like Dana Scully, ahaha. I was DEAD serious about it. What's yours? I'm with you that social media is ruining humanity. Has turned us all into attention seeking monsters. Modern feminism imo is about payback. It's no longer about equality, about mutual respect. It's about power. Women want power over men and humiliate them. Do to them what they did to women in the past. Never mind that these new wave young feminists have NO reason to complain whatsoever about "oppression". That's insulting towards women in parts of the world where oppression is an actual thing still. Men are being vilified by the media as potential rapists and murderers. It's total insanity. Like you said, the media is fueling extreme ideas. All that this is creating is animosity between men and women and that's really really bad... the result is LESS respect for women. Imo modern feminism is destroying the work done by our mothers and grandmothers.
OK, I think I'm done now. Thanks moderation for not deleting all this off topic stuff!

Bioware opened job postings for loot and item creation design. ROFL. Maybe they should have done that 2-3 years ago? This is too funny. Sorry for anyone who thought things were miraculously going to change in the near future. Talk about closing the gate after the horse has bolted....
More like trying to extinguish the blaze that's already engulfed the building with a bucket of water.

I was a total tomboy, like skateboards and hated dresses and skirts. Found them very unpractical from a young age and that never changed. But really, I had an equal amount of boy and girl toys and interests. Which just goes to show that a lot of it is social. It also demonstrates that boys have a lot of advantages - or at least, there's a perception that they do. It's not all gravy, though. There are also some very strong social expectations of men and what manhood supposedly means. That shit isn't fair to anyone. You had some great role models. My mother's father died when she was only 4 years old, and Grandma raised her 2 daughters alone. She sold the farm and moved in with his parents. Grandma worked, but was never really able to fully support the family since she was paid about 1/3 of what men doing the same job earned. My mother also worked, and in later years I think actually earned more than Dad - but she still also did everything a stay-at-home wife/mother did. At the end of the workday, Dad was all about reading the paper and watching TV, while Mom started her second job. It wasn't until about 10PM - sometimes later - that Mom actually got to sit down and watch a little TV before bedtime. The division of labor was ridiculous. That's awesome. There were a lot of things I wanted to do as a youngster but was simply not allowed. It does tend to carryover somewhat into adult life, because we set our expectations based on our early experiences, and it isn't easy to break that momentum. Well - I'd like to see gender role expectations go extinct, along with the social conditioning. But yeah, there is probably some new wave out there that wants the harm to continue, only to be redirected. There's a lot of built-up anger and resentment, and some of it may be coming from the fact that there really is still some major oppression out there. As near as I can tell, it's about vengeance. I acknowledge that it exists and is harmful, but I don't think it'll ever gain enough momentum to become a real threat to social order. Maybe I give people too much credit? Lol. Sshhh… I think the mods mostly try to re-steer discussion when things get heated, or are going in some direction that could get that way. Or if the OT stuff goes on for several pages. But I, too, thank them for indulging us.

I don't even think that Respawn is gonna survive this debacle with SW : TFO. I think that Respawn went rogue, and said to themselves, "Fuckit, might as well make a game worth playing for once." I think that Respawn is gonna shut down (or rather, BE shut down) within 2 years of release.

Hey have you guys looked at this Anthem Survey?. It's probably old news, but I found it today. Thought it would be interesting to share. Interesting....the data seems to be on the negative side in terms of Anthems overall performance. I see that it looks like an average of over 1000 people took the survey in each section? Which is probably just a small snap-shot of the overall folks playing Anthem, but it probably reflects how most gamers feel about Anthem at it's current state. Pretty concerning when Bioware has to send out job applications for somebody with experience to configure their loot system post launch.....something that should have been taken care of in the pre-production phase...

I'm seeing far too few skepticism in this thread of late. Browsing this thread doesn't even make me depressed anymore! Shame. Shame. Shame.
Probably because most people on this forum do not care any longer, as most of the stuff they where skeptic about has become reality. Why argue if there is nothing left to argue about?
I am now mostly fearful for what DA4 will become by using the Anthem code base. I have a real, real, real bad feeling about this. And you know what? I had that same feeling about Anthem, and see what happened...
Bioware is starting to drop out of my list of most favorite developers. For me a developer like Nihon Falcom (Trails series, Xanadu, Ys) is already above Bioware. If Bioware is able to launch a decent DA4, then they might reclaim their worthy status in my (personal) vision, but if it's a "Anthom with Dragons" Bioware will drop from my developers anticipation list completely (that is - the list of developers I keep an eye on for future releases). Sad - But there it is....

It's comedic... From red-pill ( Bioware so based and badass! till ME2), to black-pill ( Bioware lost its soul to EA, plus they have been lazy and incompetent since about DAI and MEA etc.) to ultimately honk-pill ( lolbiowarelol grab popcorn and enjoy the drama of its last months)!

Hey have you guys looked at this Anthem Survey?. It's probably old news, but I found it today. Thought it would be interesting to share.
Wow, the results on the last two questions. Most people that answered have quit or are considering quitting, and don't think Anthem has a future or are pessimistic about it.
Very concerning data if you're EA.
This is looking so much like FF XIV's launch it's scary. EA almost needs to take that rout and remake the game.

Hey have you guys looked at this Anthem Survey?. It's probably old news, but I found it today. Thought it would be interesting to share.
See anything interesting result with survey question "How many people do you actively play with?"
(1) 39.5% play with 1 person (2) 25.2% play with two people (3) 21.4% play with three.
If I read the above correctly, 40% play with a friend with possible two random strangers, while 1/4 play with two friends plus a random stranger. If the game was truly designed to be played 100% with friends, I can infer why random strangers feel left out or swept up by the "friends" (ie: rubber banding) = no personal control.
While this question "Are you currently in a Clan or Guild?" Results are disappointing. Either, membership offers no advantages or the implementation sucks.
This question "... how much longer you will be playing...." is a hot potato.
(1) With >50% already quit. (2) With 8% +20% quitting soon and considering quitting.
Hm... I think the expected mtx revenue stream will fall below the critical goal for sustainability, if this continues. Sad to see this.
Then, again, I don't see a date when this was taken. Even though Anthem has improved, Bio won't recapture those that have quit the game and gone to other pastures.
