As much as I do like the Marvel movies (I fucking love them), some of the changes from the source material baffle me. Like, Thor: Ragnarok is almost not even a Thor movie. He’s the main character, yes, but the “main plot” of him defeating Hela takes up less than half of the movie, the rest is just an inferior Planet Hulk adaptation (which will now never get the proper attention it deserves as one of THE definitive Hulk stories because this movie cannibalized it so much).

In regard to Infinity War, I haven’t seen it yet, but given Thanos’ motivation given in the movie, his plan (at least at face value) is fucking retarded. Culling half of the population in the universe won’t stop overpopulation and resource consumption. Plus with the Infinity Gauntles he could just conjure up more resources or expand the universe itself and make more living space. The Infinity Gauntlet is one of it not the single most powerful artifact in all of fiction, let alone comic books, Thanos has to be a complete idiot to think that his plans of genocide will solve anything when practically any other action he takes would be a better idea. Ironically, Thanos’ actions in the movie would gel much more with his comic motivation, that being his attempt to seduce Lady Death (the literal embodiment of death; Thanos is weird in the comics) and win her favor. Do they ever address this in the movie?.

And, I only mention this here because Marvel and Sony have been flip-flopping back and forth over this movie’s MCU status, but the Venom movie looks like concentrated, compressed cancer in an aerosol can being blasted into my face. Basing my opinion on the trailers, they are pissing on the history of my favorite Marvel character and one of my all time favorite comic characters by not including Spider-Man. Spider-Man/Peter Parker is one of the core central pillars to the origin of Venom (both the symbiote and to Eddie Brock) that not including him would be tantamount to making a Batman movie where his parents aren’t killed. It completely removes any motivation the character has for doing what he does. Like how Bruce Wayne becomes Batman to stop crime after witnessing his parents’ murders, Eddie becomes Venom to take vengeance on Peter after Peter (in Eddie’s eyes anyway) ruins his life. Hell, the symbiote specifically targets Peter because it perceives Peter as having abandoned it to die when he forcibly separated himself from it. Venom, as the pair of Eddie Brock and the symbiote, literally only exists to kill Spider-Man for his first appearances. THAT is Venom’s origin story. They appear to be skipping the 10-odd years of Venom’s history being spent as a villain and going straight to the Lethal Protector phase of him being an anti-hero.

I spread that url at my workplace today. It was actually very close to 50/50. I was the only one of my immediate co-workers to be disintegrated for the good of the galaxy. But the HR department.....let's just say that onboarding is going to be a lot slower once Thanos arrives.

I actually liked the first two Thor movies and wish Thor had kept a level of classic Shakespeareanism in his part of the MCU. But alas, Chris Hemsworth and Marvel wanted to outquip the Guardians of the Galaxy so we got Thor Ragnarok. Which I enjoyed, but still.

And ironically, Infinity War seemed to backtrack that again with symbolically undoing two of the three major decisions of Ragnarok.

Also I was slain by Thanos, so I guess I'll.... *disintegrates*
