Bioware Creative Director Mac Walters discusses the eagerly anticipated next title in the "Mass Effect" franchise, the tie-in comics and more.
Some notes:
The host wasn't too good, talking about random stuff and the old games. Didn't try to get something new out there.
More grey choices in Andromeda. 'You don't always know what the right answer is.
New comics will be published by Dark Horse (renewed partnership).
Comics will focus on characters from the game and tell their background about why they went to Andromeda.
The comic still has a working title (he didn't mention it), the actual title will be released soon.
Andromeda is a fresh start. All the core elements are there, but we don't want to hold ourselves back. Big focus on pushing and trying new things, not just 'another' Mass Effect game.
Mako 'is so much more fun than it ever was'.
You can have relationships with other people than your squadmates.
Exploration will be big in Andromeda. This is not a game 'with' exploration, but 'about' exploration. Finding a new home for humanity and the species that come along.
Combat is better than it has ever been before.
Levels are designed entirely differently because of jumping added.
More resources invested in squadmates than ever before, the one with the smallest part is still 'bigger' in depth than the biggest from the original trilogy.
'A lot' coming out on N7 Day about setting, premise of the game, there will be teasers. There will be 'a few' thing leading up to it (N7 Day) as well.

I've met Mark Hamill, Chris Evans, and Troy Baker at SLCC. Kind'a makes me sad that no one ever comes to Atlanta. But then again, I never go. Went one year. Spend a bunch'a money to spend a bunch more of your money. Kind'a pointless. Agreed, Norman Reedus was there with a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooong ass line, which I didn't get in. But still.

Piece of info I liked best: The smallest companion in MEA had more lines than the largest in ME3 (if I'm remembering what he said accurately). They talked a lot about the importance of characters, which I liked to hear.

I hope though they won't lose what appeals to me in the original MET - the compact, easy to handle design, world, companions. I would not want to see myself facing a necessity to give 100 gifts to too many companions or hard to manage game with ability bloat, and inventory. I like it to still be fast and fun. I really did not like the endless cutscenes in ME3 and can't save and shut-down for a night sequences. I love dropping in and playing not 'earning', ;grinding' and 'working' on a game Oh, and I prefer the game to give me a clear map, not the ME3 style 'explore the area' tooltip & a journal that was a total mess and did not track your progress. That sort of exploration is too frustrating.
EDIT: I do love the idea of the out of party romances, because this means a female PC can potentially romance someone really, really cool and powerful, and not self-effacing.

Like the sounds of notion more resources put into squad as well as greyer choices. Not a fan of relationships off squad. Really hope there are sufficient squad romances.

I think what he meant was that it wouldn't feel like we had been there, done that already in the Shepard Trilogy but it would still be recognizably Mass Effect. Kind of like the first 2 Harry Potter movies were boring because they were too slavishly like the books and didn't have surprises. I loved Diablo 2, but found Diablo 3 boring because it felt like I had done it before. He said during playtesting (internal, I presume) players said it "felt like mass effect" and since some devs are new enough that they played the original ME before going into the industry they come at it from a player perspective.

The comics might also be about the creation of the ARKs project like the lead-up to the project's initiation and ending either around its completion or its arrival in Andromeda. I imaging that if so, the important part of the information would be avaliable in some other way in Andromeda like through verbal exposition or codex exposition.
It sounds interesting that the comics will be about the companions' background for going to Andromeda since that seem to imply, to me, that it'll show their life prior to leaving. It sounds interesting and that makes me a bit sad since I want to be completely blind about companions as much as possible so despite really wanting to buy the comics, I'll be dodging these until I've finished the game.

I don't see why not, considering in every Bioware game so far the off squad romances are at best two. DAI still had 6 romances in the team. If you had problems it was more about the quality (if you don't like the options available) then the numbers.

Doesn't sound like anything new,though I like the sound of more squad interaction focus, and of course the move away from P/R dialogue.
Weirdly, I think the thing that has me the most excited is the jet pack. If they really are designing around jumping, I bet there will be some fun maneuvering in combat. Should make both SP and MP a blast, letting as work with that 3rd dimension more.
MPers will think I'm part rabbit.

DAI wan't good imo, despite there being 6 LI's on squad, certain orientations were limited to only one squad based romance option due to gating. So i don't want a repeat of that approach personally.

I'm not really mad, just liked the phrasing. Anyway, nothing actually new as expected. Unless someone is surprised about non-squadmate romances after DAI.
