Come to think of it, the scouts showed up in an early MP mission.

Gotcha. I can see that. "Same old BS." I nearly always save the scouts, and do always pick Moshae Sjefa as "ambassador". The only time I saved them is when I did a speedrun. What bothered me about the choice is when Drack or another squadmate would mention scouts. What scouts? I never heard any dialogue about any scouts being mentioned at all until that choice came up. Why couldn't Drack talk about them when talking with him on the tempest? I went on youtube and saw that it was some random banter that is heard in the Nomad from Drack. I did what the person in video did. Drove around for a bit without Drack ever mentioning the scouts. For the ambassador thing, I chose each of the contestants once, but chose Bradley more than the others I save them for two reasons. I figure that the exaltation of each MW species is inevitable, but I’m in no hurry to let the Kett perfect Krogan integration. Secondly, Raeka chose to face poor odds in an effort to save a few more of her people. I think she’s awesome, and she sounds like a Salarian Alec— a brilliant badass. Still, I saved the bulk of the Salarians and had to interfere with that Krogan exaltation. Drack first mentions the scouts in the mess/kitchen conversation. He says he sent them out to find suitable land-grabs. He talks about them quite a bit throughout the game; but it’s easy to miss since it’s mostly via banter. It requires he be in the party; triggered BS not override his banter; SAM to STFU; etc... Easy to miss, and hardly a focal point before Tafeno. Bradley would definitely be my second choice. I’d not pick the others, other than to see the result. Pathfinders need to do that job, and MEA Morda is scary. She, like Sloane, was a bit different in the novel. That novel Morda was pretty cool, but still terrifying and Krogan.

It's not about Raeka but the civilians she is with. If those scouts wouldn;t be willing to sacrifice themselves for Salarian civilians because of their hate, they aren't worth saving as they fail in the primary duty.

To be fair, we were seeing NPCs in various stages of coming to terms with their actual situation. They'd all gone into cryo expecting to wake up to Jien Garson leading them to golden worlds full of opportunity - and instead they got the scourge, the uprising and different leadership, hostile planets and enemies, separations from family and friends who'd been exiled or were still in cryo. Every person brought out of cryo had to adjust their expectations accordingly, and they were brought out at different times. I agree to some extent, but all the things that went wrong would be close to the minimum of what I'd expect the normal result of the journey to be. That people acted surprised anything went wrong, which kind of stole the adventurous spirit idea from their characters. We do show up a year late so I get some loss of spirit after a year of failure, but at the same time it was just one year of failure for setting up a entirely new civilization. Being at the giving up point seemed totally off. Like I said hopefully in MEA2 they will do something to expand on this. There were some data modules where I thought, that person has some moxie. But overall I thought they were wusses who gave up quick.

I think I enjoy the theme of all of the current Pathfinders being replacements for the ones that died, so to that end Raeka always dies in my playthroughs.

I’d not pick the others, other than to see the result. Pathfinders need to do that job, and MEA Morda is scary. She, like Sloane, was a bit different in the novel. That novel Morda was pretty cool, but still terrifying and Krogan. My reasons for saving the Krogan scouts are the same as yours. The kett seem closest to exalting the krogan and I want to prevent or delay that event. Raeka made a choice and acknowledged she had made a mistake. She was not asking for a rescue nor was she expecting Ryder to rescue the salarians with her. It is likely she had prepared them to die. My third reason for saving the Krogan scouts is, within Andromeda, they are clearly the species most at risk for extinction. The entire population of Krogan came to Andromeda aboard the Nexus (that is, they had no ark of their own). We know from Garson that the entire AI population is 100,000 ("Now they are sending 100,000 of us to Andromeda.") We know that each of the 4 arks have initial populations of 20,000 each and we have another ark out there that possibly accounts for another 20,000... leaving no room for much of a population aboard the Nexus. Even divided equally among 5 species, the total population of Krogan is very, very small; and even with their genetic therapy, the expected birthrate is not that high compared to the other species. Even with a significant number of salarian stasis pods missing, it is highly likely that saving their ark will still give them a starting population in Andromeda that is far greater than the Krogan. In addition, I figure my chances of escaping the Archon's ship in one piece are quite a bit higher with a number of Krogan scouts (who at least have some merc background) fighting along side me instead of a few salarian civilians who may have been severely weakened by being brutally interrogated and/or tortured.

Just like in the MET, only two squadmates are available at a time. No defense. Rookie had no idea how to get onboard the kett ship. It was only dumb luck that the salarian ship was tethered to the kett ship that gave Ryder a way on. The other squadmates can help the salarians look for more survivors while the strike teams have backpacks filled with explosives to be placed throughout the ship. When it comes time to choosing between the salarians and krogan, rookie gets whoever while the other squadmates can get whoever. Once back on the tempest, the charges are detonated. Goodbye Archies ship. Unknown to the rookie, Archie somehow was able to escape without injury using a shuttle. Another thing is if a squadmember is close by, he/she could have gotten the rookie out of the immobilization field instead of having the sam voice thing kill the rookie. Unlike Andromeda, all squadmates were used for the suicide mission. All squadmates could have been used for the kett ship.

Unlike Andromeda, all squadmates were used for the suicide mission. All squadmates could have been used for the kett ship. Yes, but that's a flaw of MEA not Ryder, who is unable to choose more than two squadmates. My issue is that you're blaming a character for limitations of the game.

Just like in the MET, only two squadmates are available at a time. Agree... it has nothing to do with Ryder being a rookie. themikefest Shepard is not a rookie, yet is unable to use additional squad mates to be able to save Kate Bowman and capture Balak before he escaped the asteroid. Had Shepard taken more squad mates to Peak 15 on Noveria, it seems likely that Ventralis would not have been able to start shooting the civilians and perhaps more than Han Olar could have been saved. In ME2, the one time Shepard does take the entire squad with him/her (outside of the SM) results in the Normandy being boarded by the collectors and the entire crew getting abducted. Why couldn't Shepard have sent another team to immediately rescue Admiral Koris after his ship went down while Shepard was aboard the geth dreadnought? At least Ryder has the reason that the mission is about trying to sneak a small infiltration team aboard an enemy vessel undetected through a teather tube.

(Sometimes I can't tell with you.) If the rookie had been allowed to make those choices, then the difficulty of the problem would have simply been scaled up to leave her with the same choice.

The problem is that your statement was false. There's an untrue implicit assumption which I'll add below, just to be helpful.
The bolded wasn't the case, because the situation existed to present the choice.
You have a tendency to post nonsense about what's going on in the game, and I'm having trouble interpreting the nonsense.

I felt Andromeda did quite a bit well. The combat was a huge improvement over the trilogy. I thought the open world was a big improvement as well. The VA, the romances the Nomad there are many more.

Had the rookie decided to use all squadmates and/or call for backup, strike teams, to help on Archies ship, both krogan and salarians likely could be saved This is just picking on a game mechanic that's always been part of the ME games, save for special occasions like the endgame mission. It's like if I pick on the idea that Shepard and the rest of the squad would have been able to repel the Collectors from the Normandy in ME2, instead of going on a pointless excursion to nowhere since I had no missions left in the journal, or if Shepard actually walked around with squad members on the Citadel in ME3 like she did in ME1 and 2, there wouldn't have been any need to choose between saving the salarian Spectre and the Hanar homeworld. Or perhaps Drak could've just run off on his own and say fuck you Ryder I'm saving my scouts. Bonus points if they actually killed him off in this sequence if you decided not to help them. As for calling in reinforcements, that the plot had us pinned between two choices pretty much would have made that a failure anyway. You call for backup, and that backup simply doesn't arrive in time, or arrives just in time to help as you're escaping. In the end it's a bit of a gameplay contrivance so that we get some Heavy Choice along the way. Heck, even in the Citadel DLC, when Joker arrives with a sky car, there's no reason why the other members of the team couldn't call for transport immediately. Is there no space Uber?

It's all the game mechanic of setting up the decisions within the framework of there being two squad members. The ME2 incident where they broke from it (outside the SM) is so completely lame - Shepard taking everyone just because they can fit in a shuttle so that he/she can decide who to take on the mission a little later? A rookie-ish mistake suddenly being made by a non-rookie for not apparent real reason. It makes no sense at all. As I said, at least Ryder made the squad decision within the framework of it being an infiltration mission involving going through a teather cable... and then having the mission parameters change more than once.

I totally agree with you on this one. If nowhere else, it would have been a great opportunity to use current squadmates as well as past squadmates who survived. Sort of like Citadel DLC but with a lot more at stake. Then again, Shepard was sent to Omega with no one. That he picks up two squadmates along the way doesn't take away that it was the case. Then there's Arrival. Solo mission entirely.

I would be ok with that. I 've posted that I would have had Wrex tell Shepard up yours, and go after the cure on Virmire instead of having a standoff.
