O-kay. You're right, we're clearly talking past each other. Thanks for the discussion, it got me thinking. I am really sorry if I wrote something rude. I didn't mean anything like that. Wrote my thouhts about the topic. Some of your explanations were strange tbh. And I get the feeling you are irritated a bit talking to me? Maybe I am wrong about that. If was rude, again, my apologies...

Actually, concerning the topic "OP-mages". To put it very simple w.o huge explanations: spells do rather great damage. Period. WB? In all 3 games it is just broken because of a huge damage. It is as an example of a spell. So what I meant by "OP-mages" - spells do great damage (if write it very-very simple). I don't blame mages: a strange thing to say, even insulting. Yeah, thanks for that, Noxluxe . First off, you've been talking about literally everything else but the base damage of spells throughout this conversation. Nobody can read your mind. If that's what it comes down to for you then say that, and don't whine at people for not extrapolating it from you talking about something completely different. For future reference, "I feel like spells do too much damage and that makes mage playthroughs a bit too easy compared to the other classes. And that's a shame." would be sufficient to express that viewpoint clearly. And while I haven't played a mage recently enough to say for sure, I won't deny that there might be something to that, at least in Origins. Second, I didn't say you blame mages, please read the full sentence before biting someone's head off. It sounded like you blamed their "OP"ness on the fact that mages suddenly learn a lot of spells on the journey, since that's what you were complaining about. Which doesn't seem logical. That's all I said. Now we both know what the other was trying to say. That's great. Let's call that a successful discussion.

Aaah, yeah, was right. Irritated and rude (won't admit it anyway). Whatever. I just can't miss it, I am sorry. First off, you've been talking about literally everything else but the base damage of spells throughout this conversation. Nobody can read your mind. If that's what it comes down to for you then say that, and don't whine at people for not extrapolating it from you talking about something completely different. First off, ask normal straight questions to get topic-connected answers. Instead you like to write long-long comments out of which people are forced to get out what you mean. So you are right, nobody can read your mind. Great. I "whine" already. Where exactly I did that? I thought we were just discussing the topic. OK. Point taken. The same concerns you and your long posts. It's enough to explain your thought in one sentence instead of writing composition not to confuse others. But they are interesting to read at least. Second, I didn't say you blame mages, please read the full sentence before biting someone's head off. It sounded like you blamed their "OP"ness on the fact that mages suddenly learn a lot of spells on the journey, since that's what you were complaining about. Which doesn't seem logical. That's all I said Yes, actually that does not indeed seem logical at all. And since you don't agree with that fact, you just wrote "don't blame it on mages to have the option etc". Now we both know what the other was trying to say. That's great. Let's call that a successful discussion. Yes, we know. That was the point. But calling it "successful" - a mistake. And you know why. And for the record: I don't "complain" and "whine". I share my thoughts.

Well, back on topic, again. Let's see if it sticks this time.
I've tried Warrior runs, but Aveline just outshines in that role. I've tried Rogue runs, but unless you go Dual-Dagger you have Varric. Which leaves you lacking a mage, which means either Merril (who can't heal) or Anders.
To be fair, I prefer Mage in Dragon Age, but this game seems more "designed" for a mage character.

I agree, no one beats Aveline as a warrior. You have a great dagger rogue with Isabella though. But I do like to play rogues, both archer and dw, if you have Aveline as tank, Varric and Hawke as archers and Anders as healer, your group is good to go. But lately, I prefer playing mages too. My favorite companions are among the rogue and warrior classes (Aveline, Varric and Isabella), so I rather take them with me on my adventures and play the mage.

The combination of my Archer Hawke,Merrill, and Aveline make needing a healing mage unnecessary.

The combination of my Archer Hawke,Merrill, and Aveline make needing a healing mage unnecessary. made two PTs as DW rogue w/o a healer (Anders). 1) Hawkw, Isi. Varric, Merrill 2) Hawke, Fenris, Isi, Merrill No DLC items, no stealth (hate it), used ony what could find, no elf roots or whatever can be made, only pots I could find. Nightmare Mod - difficult in the beginning, in the end of Act 1 got used.

Yeah I think those 3 aer the ones I tend to use most as wel when I play DA2. Sometimes I do switch out Aveline for Fenris or Isabella for Fenris but generally onl yfor as yone of the tougher fights where I might need 2 warriors instead of 1.

I prefer the rogue. Watching Hawke jump into battle is amazing. I can't imagine the takedown of Corypheus in Legacy would have been nearly as satisfying as Hawke leaping at him to make the final blow. I tend toward rogue in games. I don't much care for warriors. Mages have their places, moreso in DAI or DAO than here. IMO.

at any rate, I agree...I love rogues in DA2 as well...but I can't go without baby bro Carver plus (at least in my case) it makes having Stroud show up in Inquisition make more sense...seeing as Carver tends to be a Warden in my playthroughs

I think this was only my second PT and the last was a few years ago. Previously, I hadn't loved this game but I now see it as far superior to DAI. I hated how depressing it was but there was a lot of depth to it.

mhm
as I said in your other thread, DA2 can really be as depressing as you want it to be. There are a few fixed parts (such as the first sibling death and the death of mom Hawke) but everything else can be filled in by the player. I personally (at least for me) always try to go for a semi happy ending

The biggest reason for me to play as a mage is because I like Carver more than Bethany. Carver is more interesting and I like the dynamic between Hawke and Carver better.
