I was giftedthe game Fall 2017. I am an assault rifle and pistol user the entire franchise. The combat changes in Andromeda made the game NOT fun. Even on bronze, weapons were utter shit unless I happened to get a loot box weapon. ME3 bronze, time to kill enemies was more reasonable than Andromeda Bronze MP. Add in the stupid modifiers, I am turned off from playing the game if I’m required to use shotguns/snipers/melee exclusively if I only have the human vanilla classes. Empty resupply, count me the fuck out. Ok so the answer is : you havent played balancing updated version. Uh, I saw no difference in Spring 2018 in comparison. Combat still felt like a slog regardless of game mode, and I’ve already completed it 100% once. Again, the match modifiers were completely the wrong direction and alienated anyone coming into the game late. Unless I happen to spend real world money just to get better gear, or luck out from the “recruit edition”, I am completely fucked from playing the game without spending real world money.

Maybe we played different game, because I'd put "slog combat" to me3... I have just played the game, not put any money, gotten ahead fine. Actually like the APEX match modifiers, but those are not necessary to play, just bring more variation which is sometimes nice, sometimes fex. Combat challenge is not so nice as APEX lobbies are mostly full of grenade lobbers

Combat challenge is not so nice as APEX lobbies are mostly full of grenade lobbers I played triple digit hours on ME3 primarily as a Bronze and Silver player with 90% of the items unlocked legitimately. The APEX challenges are bullshit design, period. I can’t clock the same amount of hours for Andromeda MP because of said APEX challenges. I don’t get paid if I repeat challenges. Good luck getting me to 30 matches if I only received an Angaran assault rifle, a Novad shotgun, and a Tempest around that timeframe.

Better gameplay is in Andromeda though and freedom of movement is FAR greater, but each to their own. Bullet sponge enemies =/= riveting gameplay. When the starting equipment is utter crap just because I never bought the game at launch nor spent money just to get better equipment to get myself on an even playing field, they fucked up on the design. If I hate using shotguns or sniper rifles, I am punished. If I am not a Gears of War nut, I am punished. ME3’s MP had a lower barrier to entry. I don't know about that as I find MEA's MP easier though I'm pretty crap at both but I have at least survived a fwe waves of MEA MP I've not survived too many ME3 ones. Generally I prefer to stick to single player though.

I really enjoyed the game. Did I see it on the same level as the MET? No, but I looked at it as a fresh start. Maybe that's not what an ME game should be. Maybe it would have been better received under a non-ME banner. Hard to say.
What I saw mentioned early in this thread about the disappointment is something I agree with. BW just dropped this game without giving it any additional support and reworking the DLC into a novel. That shows a complete disregard for players and makes it hard to trust them not to do it again when it's convenient.
That said, still not as bad as the horror story Fallout 76 is turning out to be.

Not doing a DLC was always, IMO, one of the worst moves EA could make at that point in time. I would have followed through with one, even an abbreviated one despite the flack the game was getting to show some support for the fans who were clearly wanting one (the Quarian DLC campaign). However, the campaign just wasn't enough to convince them to change their minds at that point. I think Bioware was really unable to do anything themselves about it though. They answer to EA.
Hopefully Anthem (since it's a multiplayer game as well) fairs better that Fallout 76.

That said, still not as bad as the horror story Fallout 76 is turning out to be. Let's be honest. Getting infected by the west nile virus while simultaneously boiling alive in a volcano is not as bad as FU 76.

I actually like fallout 76. It’s not great or anything but it’s fun. It actually has a decent story based into it. And the survival rpg aspect is kind of nifty. Not too keen on the whole perk card system but overall I am enjoying it.

My favorite game in the series. Thank you! I rate ME1 and Andromeda as equals but they are the most amazing (to me) of the series. Andromeda is one of my favorite games of all time and was easily GOTY 2017 for me by lightyears!

Same here, except ME1 wons by a millimeter because of nostalgy points - No game in 2017 or even in 2018 has come close to it.

The same here.

I started a new playthrough on new years day and what I'm finding the more I play it is... I think that after ME1 (and ME2's suicide mission, not the whole game) ME:A is probably next up in the list of favorites from the series. So I'd put it something like this: ME1, ME2SM, MEA, ME3, Rest of ME2.
- Other than Liam, who I can not stand and purposefully avoid, and Cora who is annoyingly attached to the asari, I quite enjoy all the characters on the pathfinder's team. Vetra, Kallo, Lexi, Suvi, Drack, Peebee, and Gil are all amazing.
- The combat gameplay is something I very much look forward to in this game, even on insanity when I die in just a few shots. I find myself wanting to get back to it over and over.
- I also quite enjoy the exploration and sense of wonder that the game provides by being in a whole new galaxy and discovering all new species and such. It's a feel that Mass Effect hasn't provided to me since ME1.
- Despite being against this when I heard about it, I ended up quite enjoying being able to mix and match powers to make role playing a certain types of characters easier.
EDIT:
The only real negatives for me are:
- The fizzle out of the story by the end (which, ya know, in an rpg is kind of a big negative. But I still think it makes more sense than any of the random tangent of a story that were the collectors in the OT) - The garbage ass CC (Skin tone, Hairstyles, tattoos and scars - wtf was going on there? lol, terrible presets, etc) - The Kett (kinda bland) - Lack of a weapon on the Nomad lol - Other various minor things like remaining graphical glitches and weird animations.

Replaying Andromeda one year later. God i like this game. am i the only one? Yes its not like the trilogy and the there are major flaws (no not the faces) but i really like the game. i am about to end it again and i already feel nostalgic and i plan sometime to play it again. This track in the cabin makes me nostalgci already. Seiing Anthem how F%$ING GREAT and polished it looks visually makes me somewhat angry at bioware. Damn! I am fucking ANGRY at Bioware for abandoning Mass Effect: Andromeda. This was my personal GOTY for 2017 by fucking light years! In fact I rate Mass Effect games as follows: #1. ME1 = ME:Andromeda #2. ME2 #3.ME3. I'm a full blown heretic and I will not apologize for my opinion.
I LOVE Mass Effect: Andromeda. I played it back to back to back to back and I have a fifth playthrough going that is on hold so I can play other games.

Well late to this thread but MEA is my favourite ME game, even though I love the trilogy a lot and it has a better developed story (duh its 3 games) and I prefer some of the crew better but overall for just a fun and enjoyable romp in space MEA wins the day. Am I still playing it a year later, well never really stopped except to play the trilogy again and recently to put 230+ hrs into AC odyssey but just created my 15th or 16th Ryder and have just finished the vault on EOS. Still loving this game.

They abandoned it for a reason. It's cool you liked it and still continue to enjoy playthroughs but lets not get carried away here... MEA isn't even in the top 5 best games of 2017 conversation.

I think the DLC was more they felt they were never going to recover the loss of goodwill that they suffered due to the initial release quality and took the resources to invest more heavily in Anthem and make sure it came out as best as they could make it. That's the betrayal I don't like and the fact that they sabotaged MEA's development in the same way by constantly stealing resources working on MEA.

Anthem got the priority over Andromeda at some point and the resources that go along with that.

People constantly say this... but 2017 was a garbage ass year for games imo.
What games were so much better than ME:A that ME:A isn't in the top 5?
Pretty much the only games I would put above ME:A are Divinity Original Sin 2 and Xcom 2's expansion "War of the Chosen."
The rest were either not that interesting to me or typical trash type games like AC (before Odyssey, it was great), Destiny, Fortnite, CoD, etc.

People constantly say this... but 2017 was a garbage ass year for games imo. What games were so much better than ME:A that ME:A isn't in the top 5? Pretty much the only games I would put above ME:A are Divinity Original Sin 2 and Xcom 2's expansion "War of the Chosen." The rest were either not that interesting to me or typical trash type games like AC (before Odyssey, it was great), Destiny, Fortnite, CoD, etc. In no particular order... Nier Automata Divinity Original Sin 2 Persona 5 Horizon Zero Dawn Breath of the Wild Nioh Cuphead Resident Evil 7 Edit: Forgot Hollow Knight Only 3 interested me from that list and only 1 would I put above ME:A (that being Divinity) Horizon Zero Dawn was visually beautiful but bored me to tears and frankly I think it was waaaaay over hyped (much like Witcher 3) and Persona 5 was fun for sure and brought me back to my pokemon days but I wouldn't call it better than ME:A especially since I don't have it in me to replay that, yet I can with mass effect. I’d add super Mario odyssey for my tastes and since mine don’t matter but the masses do I think 2017 brought us fortnight and /players unknown battleground. 2017 did indeed bring us those 2 games. However, just because the masses approve, that doesn't mean that they are "good" games. I think they are very much to the contrary... and yes, I've played both.
