Here's another artist for you. This guy is a very established artist. His paintings are expensive and are sold in places like New York galleries. He has lots of videos, and very long videos, hours and hours. This is a video I though might fit here. It's edited down, a la timelapse, so endurable. I also quite like it, and the painting.
His technique is a variation of a la prima. He paints in the motive directly. But when it's done, he doesn't blend anything. Instead he works the details forever, continuing to put in fresh paint on top. Until he feels the painting is finished.
The reason he does that is that he likes brush marks. Because of that, he also only uses small brushes. Note how small they are. They're also not traditional bristle brushes for oil painting, but cheap "hobby" brushes. Note how short the handles are. He also uses very stiff paint. He doesn't use any oil or medium. And he uses a brand that has rather stiff paint, Old Holland (an expensive brand), all to maximize the visibility of brush marks.

Well, I've posted painter videos before. This is a bit different, because it's a teacher. But I thought this video might be interesting for some. This guy has been able to teach me two things. Two things that came as really big revelations to me. I currently don't paint oils. I have done in the past, but as my painting is just a hobby these days, I like watercolors better. They're simpler to set up, and have a much smaller "foot print". They don't require a studio. But regardless of that, those two things he made me understand, were pretty big. Just like a couple of other artists I've posted videos by, notice how good he is at putting in the values directly. Those few of you who paint, either know how difficult that is , or haven't yet realized why all your works are so obviously amateurish. P.S. Couple of side notes of interest: He's using a simple palette. A kind of modified Zorn palette (which qualifies as a 'limited palette'). The real Zorn palette is supposed to be Lead White, Vine Black, Yellow Ochre and Vermilion. Alternatively Titanium White and Ivory Black. That's what's used by modernization of the Zorn palette, in any case. Just as cadmium Red instead of Vermilion. Anyway, Mark here uses Ultramarine and Umber instead of black (expanding the palette to 5 colors, and introducing a minus red, which means that the palette is no longer particularly 'limited', but 'simple'), Cadmium Yellow instead of Yellow Ochre, and Pyrrole Rubine instead of vermilion. That gives him a vastly greater color mixing volume. It's pretty enough for anything. He's also using very smooth paints, his own brand, premixed with medium. I would assume they have shorter shelf life than normal paints, but I don't know anything about them.

I've been thinking about posting an Andrew Tischler video here, for some time. But I've never found a short and entertaining video enough. So I found yet another Volegov video I liked instead, and what do you know, the YouTube suggestions threw up an excellent video by Tischler.
Andrew is a really good landscape artists. I mean really good. He's also very fortunate, he lives in New Zeeland which provides excellent landscapes, and his father forced him to paint, and taught him to paint as a kid.

And here's the Volegov video. Fast, time lapsed.
There's a lot to say about Volegov. He's an exceptional virtuoso. His paintings are beautiful in a pretty picture perfect way. They're also beautiful in their painting craft. But are they art? Well, first of all they are contemptuously anti-PC and anti-art-establishment. So my guess is that he has seen some pushback from 'authorities'. He does the purest thing you can do: Paints what interests him to paint. He does it over and over again, with clear intent and obsessive passion. I don't think you can ignore that. I say it's art. But would you hang it on your wall? I mean it is a bit much, isn't it? I don't know, frankly. But I sure like watching him paint.

I prefer this 100 times out of 100 over some abstract stuff a chimp could do that 'artist's tell me is genius.

Vladimir Volegov again. But not his video.
This is a public, live portrait from a live model, in 1 hour 40 minutes flat. No photographs, no projection, no gridframe, no proportional divider, not even measuring off the brush handle. Not hours and days and weeks in a studio. 1:40, empty canvas to finished. I suspect this video is a bit old, because he looks younger here and the video quality is not great.

Having posted some other Artists that I like watching, I feel a bit guilty for having postponed James Gurney for so long. It's been on my mind, but haven't like happened. Here's two short videos that I think should be interesting, a "simple" quick sketch painting, and a work commissioned by Scientific American.
Gurney is a very highly skilled illustrator, as you'll see, who works in both Goache + Watercolor, and Oil.

I'm more into digital painting, maybe I will buy a Cintiq once I finish my PhD studies (Aerospace Engineering). I like to take inspiration from older Feng Zhu videos: And more recently I'm watching alot of Tyler's Edlin videos that has a different approach and process of doing things, for example or more recent videos: I currently have a small Wacom that I'm painting with when I have the time and the mood. I'm not that great but I like to think I'm improving

Yet another painting demonstration. YouTube dumped this on me through their suggestion system. About the art, I don't know and I'm moderately impressed. But the picture is pretty and I thought it was interesting for some things: It's Acrylic. I hate Acrylics and have never been able to learn a way to paint with them that I enjoy or feel comfortable with. This guy, however, have obviously cracked the system, and it works well for him. Acrylics working perfectly for over-painting methods. He seems to be using a very liquid acrylic paint (maybe he also uses some retardant), and, obviously, almost exclusively fan brushes and knives. Good color mixing.

Images of my Dumpster Pallet Table. Home Depot tosses out used pallets near the back of their store so I got some of them and am starting to make furniture out of them. This is my first attempt, it's a coffee table. <Gasp> - You 'stole' their pallets!? 😲 🤡 Nice job btw. Some hefty screws there, is it collapsible?

During this project, 'Le Fleuron', the builder at some point started to make videos of his building progress. The one I post here is number 47 in the series. But not even number 1 starts at the beginning. I chose 47 as an example here. If you're interested, you can check out the rest yourself if you care. These videos are rather slow going, but he takes time and shows how he makes all the details. It's a collection of lectures on how to build model ships the serious way. I find them very interesting and satisfying. I also make it a point to myself to patiently sit through all the ads.
With his black tea and pipe, he reminds me of a dialogue scene from 'City Slickers' "The meaning of life is one thing!" "- What?" "That's up to you to find out."
Now, I've never built a ship model and I'm fairly certain I never will. To me, life is too short. I intend to write, and maybe paint a bit, when I quit my current job. But if I had lived a different life, I think I could see me there.

Well they have palates they want to keep line near the store and then throw away pallets they leave near the dumpster I take the dumpster pallets.
I could have nailed or screwd the base are together but i wanted to do the large bolt thing instead so it would be very easy to take apart and put back together, I also kind if like the industrial look. I could hide the bolts though with a cross brace of wood if i desired.

'Royal Talens' is one of the very few top dog commercial scale makers of artist materials, specifically paints. Their ultimate brands, in oil, acrylics and watercolor, are branded 'Rembrandt'. (Their one step lower tier brands are branded 'Van Gogh', again for oil, acrylics and watercolor. Their lowest tier brand, aimed for consumers and hobbyists, again for oil, acrylics and watercolor are branded 'Art Creation'. Art Creation is again generally good stuff, but composed to be cheaper and also less dangerous. Both requirements, but particularly the last) means that some colors have reduced lightfastness, since finding 'safe' pigments for some colors (notably red) means going down to ASTM III (for serious art, the general modern consensus is that ASTM I or ASTM II is the required degree of permanence, though much art has been painted with pigments that would only rate III or IV today. The best classical artists however, mainly relied on pigments, Sienna, Umber, Ochre,.. which rate ASTM I. Which is why their paintings have survived.))
Anyway: They made a video with and featuring Vladimir Volegov, who uses Rembrandt and is some kind of sponsored poster boy for Talens Rembrandt.

My second in a series of dumpster palette furniture/items. This is a bi-level table. (probably will be in the kitchen or pantry). Like the coffee table it was made from wood salvaged from throw away palettes and salvaged palette nails. I tried some organic stains this time as I used carrot juice, beet juice, saskatoon berry juice to stain the wood. (also used a bit of blue food colouring on some boards) The organic stains are interesting, didn't know you could do that. The post coming up out of the middle makes me want to turn it into something, like a candle holder or a lamp or something, or extend it up higher and add some surface-mount magnets so you can just attach a corkscrew, bottle opener, and various metal sundry items that you might need while using the table surface... you know, pretty much anything I can think of to more work for you
