How are you posting gifs? I'm not used to this site and feeling like I should show some anime fandom pride and get some FMA around here. (actually that explains why I like my Brosca so much. She too is small and ready to fight). Does she hate milk? She did. Until she found out where it come from. 'You just... sodding.... pull on them? Why would you do that? Who thought of that?'

So, how many Provings do we have going now? I don't have a problem with Bianca Davri, most of the criticism I see seems to assume that Varric isn't a big boy who is competent to make his own choices. She's pretty straight up with him about the situation; he could walk away and doesn't. Does she make big mistakes? Yes, but so have a lot of favorite characters. And at least she does try to repair them, even if it's a lot of closing the barn door after the horse is gone. Blaming her because the writers chose to use her to make sure Varric wasn't romanceable makes no sense... Good, I'm not the only one who likes Bianca! Sure she made a big mistake, but like you said at least she tried to do something to fix it. Since the first time I played Inquisition I've kind of hoped she becomes a companion in the next game. Maybe we could have Varric make a cameo appearance that way too.

I think a lot of people overlook the fact she had to get married to whatsisname for the safety of both Varric and her, though I think that's explained outside of the games themselves? Yeah, she's a bit over the top when she threatens you, but I took it as her letting you see for just a moment how much she does care about Varric. Dropping the mask of humor for just a moment. She can't be there to keep Varric safe (there's banter between them about who's the better shot, and it wasn't Varric. ) In fact even seeing him for that long put him in danger, so I can understand her frustration. I also happen to like her VA; she voices a companion for the JK class in SWtOR.

One thing these forums are lacking compared to the old ones: the Multiquote function! Maybe I should go suggest that on the appropriate board ... Oh, @andraste_Reborn I just saw that you're planning an US ending! Gyuhh, there's no way I could do that on a Zevmance. At least Morrigan has Kieran (even if you don't do the DR, just sleeping with her once will result in a non-OGB Kieran). But Zev losing his girlfriend, then his boyfriend, then his Warden who gave him a reason to live..? AAHAHAHHAA nope i'm not cryin ur cryin, i c a n n o t. I know, it's so cruel! And therefore weirdly tempting. But on the other hand: tragically fatherless Keiran and also a baby you never meet that you can name after Duncan! You are truly evil! I'm impressed. Does the keep allow you to make it clear that you impregnated Morrigan with a mortal baby but ended up with someone else, though? My F!Cadash romanced Blackwall, and my M!Cadash Iron Bull. They are indeed both great .

She was also hurt after their fight and probably took her anger on the Inquisitor. And I like her VA too, Kira is one of my favorite companions in SWTOR (her, lord Scourge, Khem Val, Malavai Quinn and SCORPIO!)

I'm pretty sure getting threatened to have their eyes torn off is something they're pretty used to, and they likely got worse threats sent at them back in their Carta days. I mean, the first Cadash mission on the table war has their boss being so pissed at them that their friend/workmate lets them know said Boss both wants the two of them (well, especially Cadash) dead. So an friend's overworried/angry at herself girlfriend lashing out at them, it's nothing to get their panties all in a bunch about, really. #justacartathing

I simply dislike the way she is introduced and presented. It's Tallis all over again. If you listen to her, Varric and everything else BioWare put in her Quest she is supposedly ten time the smith Branca was, is a better shot then Varric and if you take in WoT2 into account she could probably push Dragon Age into the industrial revolution all by herself. Automatic crossbow, threshing machine, seeder and hydro-powered spinning machine, all invented by her. To quote Dean_the_Young from the old forum:

That is true. I didn't like the whole "ten times better smith than Branka ever was" thing. That was actually annoying. As to a better shot than Varric I thought that was just Varric flattering her. Bianca does seem very sure of herself, arrogant even, but I like that and her confident personality. I don't see her as a special snowflake, even with all her accomplishments. I would be more annoyed with character like Valta who has better stone sense than anyone else, is apparently a child of the Titan itself and gets some kind of special magical powers (dwarven magic, ugh!) at the end of The Descent. That there is the worst kind of special snowflake character I can think of (well, there is also Alistair, but that's so obvious it doesn't even need to be mentioned really...)

Why are you doing this BioWare? *sniff* Give me my dwarven rune casters I will never be torn again between Dwarves and Magic at the start of a new DA game!

Comparing Bianca who has only a brief appearance in one quest with any of the companions is comparing one apple to a bowl of oranges: There's virtually no time to develop her character and almost none of the conversation veers away from the problem at hand...
As far as I know, the only thing she's supposed to be exceptional at is smithing (and possibly only a certain type of smithing, we really don't know.) As she's dwarven and descended from smith caste, I can't see that she's a special snowflake (unless the issue is that she's a woman who's exceptional at smithing?) The thing about whether or not she's a better shot was a brief joke thrown out by her and Varric and may or may not be true, but I hardly think being exceptional at one thing and good at another (there's no hint she has any other rogue skills) makes her a "snowflake."
To be honest, some days, I'm convinced that any female character who's identified as good at ANYTHING and is the slightest bit abrasive is going to get called a "snowflake" or worse, sigh. If she was written to be deliberately annoying and she annoys you, then they wrote her well. I don't see how that's different than Viv's elitism and ambition (that they had a lot more game time to give depth to?) I can name a list of male characters I find annoying, but I assume they were meant to be annoying. Frankly, I find fawning female characters who exist primarily to gush over someone far more annoying.

Friendly reminder that dwarves are foine as hell and the people of Thedas agree. Coworker: Templars for you all day, is it? Denier: They love dwarves. I don't ask why. Probably don't want to know. At least they tip well. - Coworker: What's your secret? Denier: Pardon? Coworker: You're paid more than anyone else in the Rose. Even Quintus! How'd you do it? Denier: Dwarves are irresistible. I can't help it.

I have wondered two things about Dwarves today. 1. Do you always lose your stone sense if you go top side? Because apparently, a DAI Carta dwarf can claim they feel the Stone. 2. Do the Surface dwarves still abide by the Matriarchal blood line thing?

I suppose the more sensible the person is, the longer it takes ? Maybe that Carta dwarf wasn't on the surface for very long? 2. If it's about the whole "daughter always takes the caste of her mother" thing, then it's not matriarcal, since the son also always takes the caste of his father (and if it's something entirely different you were speaking of, I apologize. ) Considering the Kalna families are so obsessed with Orzammar's traditions, it's possible though. Also it would explain why the love story between Varric and Bianca was so problematic: had they have a son, he would have been - le gasp - a dirty (prince) merchant and not some respectable blacksmith.

It's the Quiz that says that to Josephine when talking about Quiz's religion. Another line implies you visit often, but I've yet to hear if the Dwarven Quiz having been born in Orzammar. 2. Yeah, I got that messed up. Same gender parent blood line; there a word for it? The Carta seems to eschew other things about Orzammar, and the tradition is what led them to the surface, being Casteless who gave up in Dust Town, so I wasn't for sure if they'd keep it going.

Also it would explain why the love story between Varric and Bianca was so problematic: had they have a son, he would have been - le gasp - a dirty (prince) merchant and not some respectable blacksmith. Good answer! I'd add: 1. The writers don't seem to be completely consistent on stone sense, though it's clearly a real thing, and clearly you do lose it (Valta was afraid that even seeing the sky would affect hers.) The easy way to reconcile that is to assume a surface dwarf is lying to the gullible non-dwarf. 2. Surface dwarves don't technically inherit caste at all, though I'm sure there's a certain amount of "my family was" going on. The surface merchants' guild isn't necessarily made up of people descended from merchants caste. However, I'd guess inheritance of status would still follow same sex descent. So if Varric and Bartrand had a sister, her inherited claim to status, if any, would come from her mother, but as long as that status was considered the same as their father's, they'd have inherited property, etc. within the family equally from either parent. I honestly think they came up with a fairly interesting system for caste that argues for both genders being equally valued (it's only rigidity, particularly regarding the inheritability of castelessness that's causing them problems.) Judging by the dwarven noble origin, as long as a couple are the same caste, either sex can inherit from either parent. No one was blinking at a female Aeducan becoming the ruler after Endrin, after all, and I suspect surnames for children probably go with the parent of the higher rank, though that's really unclear. Oghren and Branca seem to have been a little unusual in that their arranged marriage was between castes, but it also didn't threaten caste (apparently Branka's parents were social climbers...) Frankly, I think it would be funny to find out that their fertility problems have more to do with excessive inbreeding within castes than the taint from darkspawn...

Comparing Bianca who has only a brief appearance in one quest with any of the companions is comparing one apple to a bowl of oranges: There's virtually no time to develop her character and almost none of the conversation veers away from the problem at hand... As far as I know, the only thing she's supposed to be exceptional at is smithing (and possibly only a certain type of smithing, we really don't know.) As she's dwarven and descended from smith caste, I can't see that she's a special snowflake (unless the issue is that she's a woman who's exceptional at smithing?) The thing about whether or not she's a better shot was a brief joke thrown out by her and Varric and may or may not be true, but I hardly think being exceptional at one thing and good at another (there's no hint she has any other rogue skills) makes her a "snowflake." To be honest, some days, I'm convinced that any female character who's identified as good at ANYTHING and is the slightest bit abrasive is going to get called a "snowflake" or worse, sigh. I've heard Bianca compared to a Mary Sue and I think she escapes that definition because of one thing: Both Varric and the Inquisitor can legitimately criticize her faults. While Bianca does discover some huge revelation about lyrium being alive, the fact that people died as a result of her actions will be called out by Varric without being seen as unsympathetic for it. Mary sue traits are such that had Bianca been written as one, we'd be given only dialogue options that either defend or ignore that while Varric would have probably forgiven or even praised her discovery instead of feeling betrayed.

Thanks. and Seven Zettabytes and vertigomez and kripplings/kipper As a result of all my Dwarven digging, I have a "Sliding Doors" Style plan of two Cadash Sisters planned in my little head someday. I was glad to have dug through the lore, learned so much, and adored so much dwarven romance art.

The term 'Mary Sue' tends to get used way too much to describe 'any female character I don't like'. My new Mary Sue test is to think 'would the character be getting flak for this if they were male?' as my starting point.
