Also once NG+ comes out I might do a ‘pacifist’ playthrough, where instead of killing everyone I knock them out and recruit them.

Other than the handful of people that must be killed, we’re usually given the means to avoid killing. Unarmed combat used to be good. Rifles and non-lethal melee weapons were in Unity. Now we have good non-lethal takedowns and even non-lethal arrows.

My favorite is the Deus Ex games, where you can actually get through the entire game without killing a single person.

I missed the beginning of this discussion because I wasn’t around. Several of you are having a hard time finding leather? I’ve never experienced this. Do you upgrade gear very frequently? I’m pretty conservative, not upgrading much before approaching max level. I’ve always ended my PTs with 60K+ in wood and leather, and 15K+ in the “rare” materials. I know it’s a small nitpick, but it’s sort of silly that blacksmiths are general merchants. Smiths are named after the materials with which they work. Blacksmiths definitely shouldn’t be selling general goods, working leathers, etc... It doesn’t impact my enjoyment, but it makes me scoff whenever I think of it. Earlier entries in this series did have different types of vendors/NPCs for different things. They’ve also always had things like “phantom blade refills”, poisoned blades, rope darts, etc... for sale in shops. 😆 There are always gameplay conveniences for which we look the other way. No we are not having a hard time finding soft leather we or some of us find it strange that some of the merchants were not selling soft leather ( but you already explained that to us ). And that you need so much soft leather to upgrade your weapons and armor pieces. And i did not upgrade my weapons and armor pieces frequently but since there is a level cap in how much money you can bring with you ( 9.999.999 ) i have to spend my money on something. So those poor animals out there have to suffer because some of the merchants are not selling ( or not nearly enough ) soft leather to upgrade my stuff. Money for me is not an issue in this game but those poor animals are ... why not the option to buy ability points.

That being said I spent my whole 2.5hrs yesterday doing nothing but killing mercenaries, they are surprisingly a good source of crafting materials. I killed on S2 mercenary that I stumbled upon and hence my hunting mercenaries for hours but couldn't find another one. Any ideas on where to find the higher level ones? Just give yourself a bounty preferably as high as possible and just kill them of one by one. After you killed around the 15 to 25 of those easy mercs those higher tier mercenaries will come eventually. Just be patient and have some fun first.

So, a sneaky mission went wrong and I had to start killing some Athenian soldiers. That, of course, was considered murder and a mercenary came after me. Not the first time, won't be the last. But this was the first time I felt really bad about fighting a mercenary. She had a lynx companion with her, which I had to kill first since it was mauling the shit outta me. Her anguished "No, no, noooooo!" after it died tore my heart out. In the end, turns out she was working with one of the Cult since killing her revealed a new Cultist to me, so I felt slightly less bad. But still. Yeah those mercenaries are a pain in the butt ( sometimes ). No i can guarantee you that that won't be the last time that one of those mercs will try to kill you. I'm sorry to hear that i myself ( just like you probably ) try to kill those mercs first and then i concentrate on the animal but yeah those lynx's are not easy targets. Once i had to clear out a bandit camp and there were like 15 of those lynx's already doing that for me. So that was easy right well it was easy up until i started to intervene and tried to kill one of those lynx's so the whole bunch came after me. What the hell was i thinking so at some point early on i had to run for my life. Well that was at least a + that she was part of the cult.

The little touches with dead NPCs are cool in this game. Animals mourn masters and vice versa. Guards find dead friends and get upset. “You died too young, brother.” “I’ll care for your family.” “I’ll avenge you, my friend.” It’s a nice touch. True i agree and that sometimes gives me a somewhat bad feeling because i did the killing but you're right it is a nice touch. I've never heard the phrase "you died to young brother" though.

The first was a wolf and I liked having him around but it was disconcerting that he made so much noise panting The moment I spot a wolf, the knockout arrows come out. They're so much fun to have around (minus the fact that during combat I pay a lot of attention to not letting anyone kill them)

Until I got a mod for Skyrim that my horses and pets were invincible, I would never ride my horse anywhere or have any animals. With the mod, those giants couldn't even hurt my chickens.

I think I posted before that I stumbled into a group of about 10 Lynx, fortunately there was a Spartan camp nearby so I ran over there and the Lynx followed. The Spartans all died but I discovered the Lynx weakness!!!!!! Tents, climb on a tent and they stand below (apparently they can't climb) and are easy pickings.

Out of curiosity, who do you all think makes a better Deimos? Alexios or Kassandra? Ah this is an interesting one. I have not played the game as Kass yet, only Alexios...so I can't say for sure but playing the game with Kass as deimos is just eerie and really creepy...skin crawling...disconcerting...my words are inadequate to describe the overall squelching feeling when she's on the screen. As I said way back when I first discovered it A. she's a striking woman and even though it should not be about that its weird seeing someone that attractive being that evil. B. When I was looking at the game and doing research and watching gameplay vids to see if I'd like it most of them (in fact most videos out there) have it as her playing so I know of her as a kind, sometimes aggressive, sarcastic warrior princess so yeah...disconertaing again to see her be all murder murder stab stab. Though I will say Alexios's line delivery even playing him he does seem to pull off the aggressive lines easily so I do wonder if he is the better Deimos because his voice acting does lend it to that kind of performance. *** So as far as what I did today. Well lets see last night I started off finishing the stuff I wanted to do in the Naxos islands. I did the quest "We're not Thieves....We're trophy hunters." And well the pirate ended up betraying me on her ship with her crew which I rather easily killed. Then spent a brief bit trying to find Xenia's treassures and well despite having a map, no objective marker and since I hate those kinds of quests...especially in this circumstance...I bolted. Right to the Daughters of Lalia, where that quest line is my second favorite of the Lost Tales of Greece hmmm *thinks* yeah that's fair. On the one hand it was a fun little side story but on the other side they really talked it up too much for what was a lot of fetch quests. I mean don't know what to expect but they did say this was based on 'Seven Samurai' so I was expecting a lot more. Plus the training was a little hinky because Alexios mentioned a certain way to draw back a bow which is a way to do it but I decided to double check and...that's not the way he does it. Alexios uses his anchor point as being towards his jaw/ cheek, not near his eye like he said. Still the final two choices was fun, don't know how it would've played out differently had I did the different way but I do suspect that choosing which path to go down determines which of the two leaders dies. Which is sad. Off to looking for the Heiphostos forge I went and well as 'luck' would have it I already found it but I didn't see it at first so I spent a loong time trying to clear out the question marks, think I got everyone of them in Pandora's Cove. Though on the way to it finally I ran into this village called 'Lamia' which was essentially Huntress central. The entire....fecking...village. Bitches actually managed to kill me once but then I went back and I did go right through them like...well...I did better. As a fast aside I have been feeeling awfully 'Arrow' the last couple of days. Finally found the new workshop and I bankrupted myself on just two of the new engravings. Ignore half damage 28% of the time and the 35 Percent headshot bonus. Well I do not give the engraving system because it seems like only certain pieces of gear accept certain bonuses. Well then after going to a regular blacskmith to build my money back up, started engraving like mad. 2% health on kill on my chest now, I put the 28 % on my hood, and of course a few things now have the 35% headshot bonus. I decided to test out my near gear on a new location, fortunatley I was in Phokis and I discovered another fort and this time I am sure it was the one where Elpenor was. I went in and sabotaged the signal fire, didn't want too much trouble but I cleared out the entire area, including two mercenaries coming to fight me so my build is solid. After that back to the Arena in Pepka to finish that out and again they didn't really stand much of a chance, Veislos the King of the Arena...he was easy. And then Skoura himself decided to fight me because his daughter was actually dead and he put up one hell of a fight, but I did get him in the end. It was sad. With that off to Sterroppes and while he was a lot tougher then his brother he was still a bit of a pushover. And anyways after getting him I have decided to switch to his bow. His bow is the best looking bow in the game so far by far, and I thought Erros's bow was beautiful. That and the stats may just be a bit better, need to engrave the thing of course. The problem is with Erros's bow is I just don't use special arrows enough outside of death arrows and explosive arrows and now since it seems I can do flaming attacks all the time now, seriously it regenerates by the time the flames wear off, then I don't really need to use poison or fire arrows. And the 20% health and armor could be useful. Sadly though my day ended in defeat, I don't know why I still have a bounty on me...but I do and when I went to Athens to turn in a quest some merc found me there I tried leading him outside the city, he killed me. Oh speaking of mercs I got the merc cultist too, he's dead.

Out of curiosity, who do you all think makes a better Deimos? Alexios or Kassandra? They’re both really good, but I definitely have favorites. I like Alexios better as the protagonist. He brings more passion, snark and humor to the role. Also, there’s a second reason people won’t like. I feel that he’s more believable as a male protagonist, given the setting. The game ignores Kassandra’s gender. That’s totally fine, but I’d rather she face some hurdles and get to bite back. It’s a minor thing, in the end, and I’m definitely glad they finally gave us a great female lead in the series. As Deimos, I somewhat prefer Kassandra. Alexios as Deimos is awesome. He’s full of the unbridled rage I’d expect and that the Cult seemed to fear. He really did seem irredeemable, though. (Fittingly, he faked me out and murdered mom at the end of my Kassandra PT.) Kassandra as Deimos was pretty angry, as expected, but didn’t seem 100% rage (more like 85% 😂). She had moments in which she really seemed unsure. Maybe I missed out on a few of those with Alexios due to dialogue choices. A side by side comparison, though, of identical scenes left me with the above impressions. It felt fitting that I “redeemed” Kasssndra in my first (and third) PT, but had to kill Alexios in my second PT. TLDR: Alexios is my preferred hero. Kassandra is my preferred Deimos.

Nice that it sounds like there are multiple ways of boiling the redeem don't redeem egg. I am not up on Greek history much anymore but I don't know. Greece was a little more 'progressive' on some issues. I'm not sure how specifically they came down on women's rights and women as warriors thing but there is the whole Amazon story and then Athena was a warrior goddess of wisdom. (Though the real history of the Amazons had them defending their village after the men left, much like a recent quest in the game...speaking of which the whole Daughters of Lalia thing is the first time I wished I was playing as Kass for this PT)

(Though the real history of the Amazons had them defending their village after the men left, much like a recent quest in the game...speaking of which the whole Daughters of Lalia thing is the first time I wished I was playing as Kass for this PT) It really depended on the city state, since some were definitely more progressive than others with Sparta being famous/infamous as one of the most. In terms of warfare, while women couldn't really join the army there are cases of famous women warriors and leaders fighting in wars so it wasn't super frowned upon if a woman did those things. Also Greece had many experiences with other cultures and among them also had female fighters so yeah it wasn't an alien concept to them. "If the gods gave them those gifts, let them use them" and stuff like that. Edit: Here is an example of a woman helping in warfare during the war between Greece and Persia: Hydna
And here is one, the half-sister of Alexander the Great, actually fighting and leading an army: Cynane

Yep, it wasn’t entirely unheard of but likewise was probably not common. It seems doubtful that Kassandra would’ve faced no pushback; but conversely seems obvious her crazy power and skill would’ve been enough to overcome initial hurdles. Our protagonist is essentially a Greek demigod given form. No one would care which sex organs you had if you were jumping off cliffs like others step off of curbs and blasting dudes to pieces with your magical spear, flaming sword and invisible arrows.

Alexios + Kassandra. One part Green Arrow, one part Superman, one part The Flash. Honestly though I mean I get it in a way because games feel the need to have to justify why people in their games are just so bad ass over everyone else that they have to give them some unique super thing whether you are the chosen one, the anchor, the HEV, or the Spear of Destiny (that is its name right?), I just wish there were more heroes like Hawke. I just want a nice, regular person who is a bad ass because of their wits and training.

This was a cool change of pace for AC, but I hope we get to return to our human protagonists going forward. Very few things done by the earlier protagonists were impossible in and of themselves. Parkour professionals are amazing to watch. It’s more a question of stamina and repetition. A real person can’t scale walls all day, non-stop. You can only drop 20 ft onto a dude so many times before your joints are shot. Odyssey was cool, but I want my human protagonist and my Assassins v Templars stories. Origins was the start of the fantasy nonsense. Bayek was a normal human, but he inexplicably had flaming/poisoned weapons and the like. The flaming, undead horse looks awesome, but it looks awesome for a fantasy game. That’s not my type of thing in AC. I want a somewhat more grounded experience for AC. Ubisoft is probably making a killing on microtransactions via their Store, so I’m sure we’re stuck with magic weapons, inventory management and the other garbage for the long haul. Just give me a human, a hidden blade and a couple of mundane tools and weapons and I’m thrilled.
