Wasn't there always going to have to be a child to continue the bloodline or am I not understanding how the story for the whole of AC works? Do we know yet how the child is "forced" on Kassandra, is it a relationship of convenience to have a child or will a relationship with Natakas be forced on the player? Does this mean the next games will still be prequels to the original AC game with Altair if they are forcing this in Odyssey? I want to clearly spell out I am in no way outraged by the dev's decision to do this, it's their intellectual property and their story. I will be disappointed if in the game there is no option in regards to whether a "relationship" with Natakas is forced on you or whether you can choose to do it from a biological convenience perspective. There hasn't been a game series I have played (looks at The Witcher and Mass Effect in particular) where dev's have dictated changes or forced a story line. It is what it is and I am honestly pleased to have played what I consider a great game in AC Odyssey. The relationship is absolutely forced on you. Even if you ignore all the options for it, when the scene happens you’re suddenly super lovey-dovey for them. Well that is disappointing. What am I missing, how do people know this is the DLC out already or has someone leaked this info? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I have not played the last two days as I have been sick.

Only thing i can add is as far as im aware the DLC is made by a different team to the base game, no 100% sure though, an if thats the case an giving Ubi's studios are all over the place i wouldn't be surprised at a total lack of communication, which is by no means a excuse, but i'd put my money on it being that simple

Ubisoft's first comment on the situation: When asked by Kotaku about this development, Ubisoft sent over an e-mailed statement. “We strive to give players choice whenever possible in Odyssey and apologize to those surprised by the events in this episode,” the statement said. “Without spoiling it, you will engage in an important relationship as part of a set story. The motivation behind this relationship is yours to explore in game and will be reflected in your character’s story arc. There is one episode left in Legacy of the First Blade which will tie your character’s actions together.”kotaku.com/assassins-creed-odysseys-latest-dlc-has-a-romantic-endi-1831784459

Oh the DLC is in? Must have missed the downloading screen thingy. I'm going to continue to wait for NG+ so not going back to this yet. I'm doing my own version of NG+. I started again, and leveled up to level 54 before I started the main quest, which is now a level 50 quest. So if I manage to save my mother and brother this time, they should at least be serviceable lieutenants by the time I'm ready to do the new content. Getting to level 54 in 56 hours isn't as easy as the title screen makes out, given that most of your skills are locked to the main quest. i.imgur.com/CMdHhMz.jpgi.imgur.com/oZuyOJn.jpgHope your feeling better Dazk. One thing I noticed on this go through, is I never got the Daughters of Artemis bug (or they fixed it with the last patch) I've done a couple of quests for them. This time the girl didn't say I killed a couple of wolves when I didn't. (unlike last time) And I've been through many of their sites without being attacked. I even rode through their sanctuary on a flaming horse, and they just jumped out of my way.

I downloaded LotFB Ep2 and finished it in one sitting. As I suspected, people were losing their shit needlessly. I chose to pursue the relationship with Neema, but I had myriad opportunities to not do so. The family is not forced upon the protagonist, based upon the obvious and many decision points with which I was presented. As always, much ado about nothing little.
That addressed, it was sort of meh. The writing lacks subtlety or depth of any sort. I guessed the entire storyline of this DLC within seconds of meeting the critical local NPC. That was pretty disappointing. Only one small detail near the end turned out to surprise, and even there I had mild suspicions. It was cute seeing Alexios try the domestic life, I guess. I’ll likely not do the same for Alexios or Kassandra in the future. My curiosity and desire for the trophy made me do it. I totally wanted to say, “Nope, I’m a misthios,” and had many opportunities to do so.
While we have one more chapter regardless of the choice, I am curious to see how this episode’s decisions affect the intro to the next, Beginning from a domestic lifestyle will likely have to be different from beginning it as the Eagle Bearer misthios ship captain.
I don’t regret playing the DLC, but it’s only been mediocre thus far.
Either the latest patch, the DLC or a combination of the two borked the game on PS4Pro. I barely played yesterday, so I can’t really say if the patch alone did it. Anyway, the game loads super slowly and textures suck even after loaded. On land, the game frequently froze to load when traveling on Phobos. Passersby would be floating along, behaving bizarrely, and would multiple and transform into different NPCs entirely before my eyes. In settlements, only the buildings would be in place upon arrival. Then, the entirety of the townsfolk would spawn in a clump and start metamorphosing into their final forms. Boats would appear in the water and so on. At sea, land masses often lacked textures until I landed and disembarked. Ships would appear suddenly at very close range, as if teleporting in from elsewhere. Lighting sucked, maybe due to the shitty textures upon which it fell.
They failed to fix the bug that causes horses and their riders to rock strangely. I thought for sure that would get fixed. I’m not sure what the point of that patch was. They fixed a minor hiccup in PS4 photo mode, and added the unneeded enemy scaling toggle. Why do people want to outlevel the game? You want to kill things in one hit? It’s pretty damn boring. I was doing so on Hard against foes my own level due to an overly optimized gear loadout. I ditched that loadout and went back to my Hunter.
I did notice one difference: Headshots are no longer critical hits. Say what? Is this how they decided to balance Hunters? Throughout history, if you could afford on,y a single protective item, you wore a helmet. It’s the most targeted and vulnerable part of the body. Removing autocrits for headshots really pisses on my verisimilitude. Maybe it’s partly because I just replayed a much better game (HZD), but Odyssey’s gameplay has felt pretty lackluster since returning to it. I hope I can get engrossed in the game once more.
I got the Ep2 story Trophies, but not the action-based Trophies. I’ve killed zero enemies with Rapid Shot, at this point. The description alone made me choose not to invest in it. I kill plenty quickly, one arrow at a time. I don’t need rapid fire at only 60% damage. I’ll get the trophy at some point, but I doubt I’ll use that new skill unless it’s way better than I’m imagining. I needed to set fire to 10 enemy ships for another. I must have done 8 or 9. I was very close. That one is fine, and I’ll get it easily. I like to deploy the Chimera’s Breath immediately after ramming a target. Adrestia is more OP than ever. The last trophy is achieved by triggering the legendary perk of a heavy blade. Seeing as it was the final reward for the story path, I haven’t even used it yet. I’ll nab the trophy and then shelve the weapon. I’m not into Odyssey’s heavy blades (though I like them in Origins), and I own many better weapons.
We did get a cool new ship cosmetic and an okey-doke figurehead. It’s very, very Persian in appearance, but it’s undeniably cool. The one for the weekly quest was pretty boring. Another bland, solid red theme. Bleh.
TLDR: The DLC is meh, but ends much more strongly than it begins. The so-called railroading that has people having fits is seemingly non-existent. The game needs more patches for its patches.

I almost checked to see if a video like this existed. To be absolutely honest, I didn’t precisely because I knew you’d reply with a link if it did exist, so “why bother?”, I thought. 😆 At least there’s real fuel for those hyperbolic fires that no doubt rage across the web. As I expressed last week, this is the first game in a transition from an entirely linear series to an experience with RP opportunities. I think they did a great job. I got to significantly shape the protagonists’ personalities and choices. I get that this particular chapter is not to your taste. That’s fine, and I understand why. You want more player agency than the game is allowing. Insinuating a crime has occurred, and calling for persons’ jobs and/or lawsuits just sounds like hysteria. I will say in a general statement that, in my opinion, that was a cool ending. Seeing it again, this time with Kassandra and in two forms, was enjoyable. I wish the entire DLC were that good.

Oh, boy, the shitstorm is coming. Two words - forced child. I thought Ubisoft would try to give a choice in the matter but this kid must be really important for future games. My theory was that they would use Leonidas's son if our protagonist dodged the child. And lets face it my Kass would never let Darius's son get in kissy range. She has standards! Wasn't there always going to have to be a child to continue the bloodline or am I not understanding how the story for the whole of AC works? Do we know yet how the child is "forced" on Kassandra, is it a relationship of convenience to have a child or will a relationship with Natakas be forced on the player? There hasn't been a game series I have played (looks at The Witcher and Mass Effect in particular) where dev's have dictated changes or forced a story line. It is what it is and I am honestly pleased to have played what I consider a great game in AC Odyssey. The old Animus needed ancestral memories in order to work. The new one just needs the person's DNA and you get to see his/her life. In Origins Layla used Bayek's and Aya's mummies and in Odyssey she used the blood traces on the spear. Maybe Ubi plans to return to the old school way and we will find the modern day heirs of Kass and see the lives of their ancestors. Which will be a good excuse for Kass/Alexios to cameo in each game watching over the bloodline. The baby choice is inevitable but you can at least decide if it's love or just sort of a "duty" to have a family. I did the DLC with Alexios first because I feel he at least has a chemistry with Neema and could sell the love part. Natakas however will be shooed at every opportunity and be told in the face that Kass simply has been left with no other option by the, err, "Gods". And why does Kass needs to live with Natakas is beyond me. She can be just fine as a single mom, not to mention she has babysitters at the ready all over Greece (Daughters of Artemis for one. And Markos as a last last last last human on Earth resort...you know, nvm, Kass can get a baby pouch) The third DLC chapter is obviously set for a big Greek tragedy. The trope with the hero settling down and his past catching up to him has been done to death. Alexios even flat out described it in the dialogue a few times. I hope it will be epic since it will involve "Everyone!!!". There will be casualties, most likely Darius and (hopefully optional) Natakas 😈. Neema will live if possible. The Order are bloody hypokrite (sic) malakas. For all their talk about how bad the Tainted ones are they don't seem to mind being the same. Won't spoil Chapter 2, but the Huntsman in Chapter 1 was either a Tainted one or close enough to use Pieces of Eden (Shadow of Nyx ability is not just something you learn from the road).

Patricia, if you have a PS4 then look up the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima. It is pretty much an AC game set in medieval Japan minus the AC nametag. I saw a video of that game and it sure looks promising i will definitely check it out when it's bin released but thanks anyway.

Animus
Before Animus 3.0, the memories that were read were lifted from selected users with Assassins lineage. That was the only way to get the data on the Isu artifacts.
After version 3.0, the animus progressed to a point where any user could view / experience the genetic memories of other people as long as DNA samples were available.
Animus 4.3 (AC movie) is no longer a platform or a chair but a machine (mechanical arm) that taps directly into the spine. The invasive procedure allows the user to physically relive the ancestral memories.
Animus 4.35. The invasive procedure was discarded and the device now comprised of a helmet and an exoskeleton.
Animus HR-8.5 is a portable version that returns the device to the form of a platform. Unlike the previous versions in which information is relayed to the brain, the new version forms a sensory grid / network within the user and sends information from either ancestral genetic imprint or a DNA sample throughout the grid.
HR-8.5 is the version in AC Odyssey. One aspect of the animus remain the same through its technological progression; prolonged usage lead to the Bleeding Effect.

Besides the fact that the child is forced upon you with a theme of "player choice". It would be fine with it if it were a linear game. Also, they have the gaul to put a timer on the 'decision' as if there is a actual important choice that's being made. That's what I'm pissed off about. Also, the trophy name... as if all you have to do to "grow up" is have a child. What a PR nightmare this is. You're also saying FU to the LGBQT community with that trophy name. Especially when you have that disclaimer message at the beginning...

I was looking forward to play a NG+, but this dlc alone turned me off hard. No self proclaimed rpg should ever force any decision on a player, much less one that revolves around something so intimate.

No self proclaimed rpg should ever force any decision on a player, much less one that revolves around something so intimate. Especially on a character we barely get to know. A couple hrs of screen time and that's probably being generous. Mass Effect and Dragon Age require the whole game before intimate let's call it 'actions' can occur.

Second statement:
"We don't want to reveal too much right now, but we have always tried to keep the story inclusive of people of all sexual orientations, and players will be able to choose their motivations behind this particular narrative depending on their sexual preferences," Ubisoft continued.
"Assassin's Creed Odyssey was developed by people of all sexual orientations, backgrounds, genders and beliefs, and we have tried to reflect that within the game."
They really aren’t getting the issue here.

So back to it and the Obsidian Isles went a lot easier then I would've thought it would. I did the first something that I haven't done in a while, went after a leader in the middle of a fort. And boy is it absurdly easy with the explosive arrows. Though I did have a kill shot lined up and he must've shifted in his sleep or something since it only did half damage but I was able to do two or three arrows in a row which blew them up and knocked out a lot of experience. And then later on got into a bit of an interestingly one sided fight as I shot more explosive arrows at a group of two, again this time they didn't work but it attracted all their buddies who came over so I just laid down explosive arrows in the middle of the group until they were all dead.
Which set up the battle and that went pretty easily, had a few close calls and was worried about not seeing the cultist but he showed up and I killed him even before boarding the ship.
With that done it was a bit ironic my download for AC 5 and AC 7 has come up on the screen, I guess it might've pre downloaded? (First time I've ever done a preorder digital I guess) but its ironic that this is the night I am finally able to go back to the main story. Off to Lakonia/ Sparta to get my home back. And I have to put down a slave rebellion, fun, but I do think it probably will tie back into the cult arming them to destabilize Lakonia. As a bonus though it was a bit of a surprise to see that the cult was active back during Leoinidas's time, not too surprised but I did think they were a recent phenmenoa...and they were feeding words to the Pythia even then.

The intention of this story was to explain how your character’s bloodline has a lasting impact on the Assassins, but looking through your responses it is clear that we missed the mark. Alexios/Kassandra realizing their own mortality and the sacrifice Leonidas and Myrrine made before them to keep their legacy alive, felt the desire and duty to preserve their important lineage. Our goal was to let players choose between a utilitarian view of ensuring your bloodline lived on or forming a romantic relationship. We attempted to distinguish between the two but could have done this more carefully as we were walking a narrow line between role-play choices and story, and the clarity and motivation for this decision was poorly executed. As you continue the adventure in next episode Bloodline, please know that you will not have to engage in a lasting romantic relationship if you do not desire to. We have read your responses online and taken them to heart. This has been a learning experience for us. Understanding how attached you feel to your Kassandra and your Alexios is humbling and knowing we let you down is not something we take lightly. We’ll work to do better and make sure the element of player choice in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey carries through our DLC content so you can stay true to the character you have embodied throughout.
Its nice to get an apology, but the damage is already done...

Its nice to get an apology, but the damage is already done... If this were the intention then I'm probably going to be ok with that. Granted this whole situation was unfortunate how plot neccessity clashes with the choicesplayers want to make for their characters but really the player can still have their own motivations for going into what they consider is crucial to the development of their plot, all I ask for in the end.
