One scenario I imagined was the game maybe starting with the Inquisitor and some characters riding in a carriage or something as they sneak or go into Tevinter and while that happens a character catches the Inquisitor up on recent events. For new players this helps fill them in while also not seeming like just an exposition dump for returning players. *Has Skyrim flashbacks...*True. Doesn't need to be a wagon. Just them getting filled in as we enter Tevinter.

Do you prefer your Human PC to be a noble or commoner origin. The previous humans have been nobles of various standing, giving us an interesting insight into how their respective nations work. Tevinter is a more strictly class based society, largely due to the pro mage culture. I am hoping we are a Tevinter native from a Laetan family, we can either be the mage which enabled our promotion or the sibling of the mage and begin our struggle in the deadly politics of Tevinter.

It's funny that the one game where I actually think it'd be cool to play a human noble is DA4, because of the whole magocracy thing. On the other hand I'm really heckin sick of human nobles. Cousland, Amell was from a noble family, Hawke is noble on their mother's side and reclaims their title, Trevelyan is noble.... like, damn, it'd be nice to be an Avvar or a Chasind or some random farmer-turned-fighter a la Shandra Jerro. I honestly think Trevelyan would've been better served as mercenary muscle like the Vashoth origin, or just some random human mage with no notable bloodline. Because I'm sick of humans being nobility but also Tevinter is the one place I'd be interested in playing human nobility LOL.

(though I head canon they find out after the Blight and go to search for their mother (at least mine does) Hawke's mother had to relinquish their title when they eloped with Malcolm, they're basically nobody until after the Deep Roads expedition, and are only protected because they happen to safe Kirkwall and become Champion
and even though Trevelyan is of noble blood, aside from the few privileges they have in the Circle, they can't take over their parent's title.
I personally don't mind that most of the humans are nobles, but playing an actual commoner or like you say an Avvar or Chasind, would be amazing (but I'm still hoping for a Magister origin, just sayin' )
also, I love Shandra Jerro...she was fun Shandra: Well, if it had been the Captain [player] doing it, the cat would be lost, the tree burned down, and the old lady would be traveling with us now.

Like there hasn't been a single human protagonist who isn't descended from a fancy bloodline, regardless of whether that does anything for them. I like her too! 😁

--
Neverwinter Nights 2 was my first RPG, and I loved every inch of it Gannayev (from the expansion) was one of my other favorite characters, also Bishop (had a love-hate relationship with him ) Player: so, why are you in jail? Gann: my crime? Why it's a serious one, you see...I'm just to handsome to look upon
Bishop:So the farm girl's going to join our band? Good. We need someone to make up for the paladin - or at least to catch arrows if Grobnar's already dead.
also... Sand, great Sand with his giant dose of sass and sarcasm Sand: Only that the dress the ambassador is wearing is clearly out of fashion, a blatant attempt to distract the court from the matter at hand, and is more appropriate for a Docks prostitute than a diplomatic envoy. Thank you. ^greatest line ever

LadyofNemesis I have very fond memories of NWN2! I was in unrequited love with Qara and Safiya lol. Gann and Bishop were pretty great (Gann always struck me as the lovechild of Zevran and Solas... ). MotB in general remains one of my favorite games/expansions. Dark and thematic, the narrative felt cohesive, the characters were great... ahh, good times.

I see that a lot of people are going for a protagonist that fits within the story between the Inquisitior and Solas. While I like the idea, I’m not too fond of our new character beginning their journey within that, mostly because I feel it will muddle THEIR personal story. Why are they an agent? What are their goals? This is something that worries me. I don’t want our DA4 protagonist to get lost in this deep, workd-changing story the writers have built. They are saving the world. I want to know what is worth saving to them.
My preference would be someone who has not only worldly stakes involved, but also personal stakes Involved, like the Inquisitior- I mean, that’s what makes them such a strong choice for a protagonist for the next game, even though it breaks the “rules”. And by personal stakes involved, I meant having also been betrayed by Solas. I think it’d be spectacular if that is explored in our DA4 protagonist’s origin story.
What if through each origin story, the DA4 protagonist is betrayed by him, but in a different way (think of the mural painting, the inquisitior mostly experienced Solas, but our DA4 protagonist mostly experienced The Dread Wolf) that potentially creates a dichotomy between the DA4 protagonist and Inky, as they have experienced two facets of the same man. To follow the theme of Fade/Reality, what if Solas betrays theDA4 protagonist through manipulating them in their dreams (Fade) while the Inquisitior was betrayed in reality? Even more dichotomy! It’d also be intriguing to see the DA4 protagonist see a side of Solas the Inquisitior hasnt- I mean, how much do we really know about this guy? Also, just saying, if Hawke can leap to Frostbite for a Non-personal mission, Inky can appear in DA4 and at least have one confrontation with Solas.
To explain, what if your Inquisitior romanced Solas and truly believed in saving him, while your DA4 protagonist is dead-set on killing him due to what they experienced in their origin story. Or maybe, they both agree on killing him. Or saving him. This is just speculation from my idea and I can go on and on, but essentially, I want my character to also be able to hear from Solas “so, you’ve found me at last.”
With that being said, DA4 has a delicate protagonist problem and it’s going to be difficult for them to tell the second part of Solas’ story through a different protagonist and also deciding his fate through a different protagonist. I have full faith that I will be satisfied nonetheless.

Fascinating idea, but it doesn't work for dwarf protagonists. (I know Solas manages to drag dwarf Inquisitors into the Fade, but that's after they have the anchor.)

Thing is, my Inquisitor isn't all that cut up about being betrayed by Solas. Maybe other people feel an emotional connection to him, but I don't.
If anything, my Inquisitor would want a break. He never wanted to be part of the Inquisition, he did it all out of necessity, and all through Trespasser I made sure to express a desire to leave the organization to pursue personal goals, up until it turned out the world was under threat again.
I don't consider Solas a friend. There was no relationship to really betray. He was an ally in the fight against Corypheus, then he left, as was his right. The fact that he now plans to destroy the world is, for me, a separate consideration.
A new, blank slate character would be far more enjoyable for me. And BioWare doesn't need to create a reason for my character to get involved. I do. I am the one who decides what his internal processes are.

So here's an interesting thought experiment: While I would not mind seeing the Inquisitor maybe return one of my concerns with it is in terms of the dialogue wheel because while I loved being the Inquisitor the dialogue wheel left much to be desired. So would it be weird if they gave the Inquisitor an entirely different dialogue wheel that would allow them to express a differing range of emotions or is that not much of a concern?

Well, I guess Hawke was first but their's wasn't the way I am reading your hope.

Well the Hawke wheel or the Ryder wheel more specifically or a combination of the two is where I hope the DA 4 wheel goes. My worry, admittedly irrational it might be, is that the Inquisitor's wheel was primarily the 'tone' wheel so the Inquisitor was much more...how should I put this...whereas Hawke came off to me as being very bi polar and all over the place the Inquisitor came off as being very measured and not a huge amount of variance in options in the tone wheel while still letting you RP different options. Now I did like the Inquisition's dialogue system but I am wondering how comparable and compatable it would be. I mean hell Shepard basically had the same dialgue system throughout all three ME games. They gutted it in ME 3 but it was still a Paragon/ Renegade morality system.

Yeah, my Inquisitor punches Solas and then leaves him be, and never wanted to be Inquisitor in the first place. He might assist in dealing with Solas, but he would never truly go after him, not only because that'd put the whole mission of stopping Solas in jeopardy, but also becasue THE MAN JUST WANTS TO BE. Of course that is selfish in a way since the world is at jeopardy, but according to the epilogue slides, only (non-divine) Leliana is confirmed to acknowledge Solas' plans in a vague way. Everyone else is doing their own thing.

I'd love if the game took place in 9:50 Dragon as a reference to how long the game took to develop IRL and that just because no major events has happened was everyone has been off living their lives until Solas just trips some detection net somwhere springing the plot into action.

Great point, I have quite literally played all of my inquisitors as certified Solas haters that it causes me to forget that you could literally not give one hoot about the guy. Haha. It makes me wonder about how our inquisitors will be represented in the next game. Also, I wasn’t referring to the Solas/DA4 protagonist’s relationship as the reason for the DA4 protagonist to be involved. I see it as just a story element. Think Arl Howe.

I'm on the Inquisitor's story should continue camp. Solas is going to be a big part of it and it feels more personal going up against them with the Inquisitor then with some new protag. As the inquisitor, you knew Solas, if you hate him you had reason before you knew about his plan. If you love him or friends from him then it's certainly more potently tragic then if you were playing someone who didn't know them.

Completely new protagonist. Normally I'm a fan of one series having only one protagonist (like Mass Effect), but at this point DA has shown that it is going about things a completely different way, and while it took some time for it to grow on me, I don't mind it so much now. I think it'd be weird at this point for them to turn around and bring the Inquisitor (or another protagonist) back. Not to mention the fact that I think the Inquisitor's story has concluded fairly well, though I do hope they appear as an NPC (or there's the option for them to appear.)
I definitely don't want multiple protagonists, I don't like it when games do that. (That's one of the reasons I hold the unpopular opinion of not liking GTAV). I definitely want there to only be one protagonist to follow, in part to make it less confusing, but also due to the fact that it's easier to write one character having meaningful relationships with their companions as opposed to having two to have to contend with. After the general reaction to Andromeda, I don't think BioWare is going to slack off when it comes to character development and interpersonal relationships.

20 pages in and I'm glad to see there are more votes for the Inquisitor as a protagonist in some form than not at 150 for and 129 against.
