The Inquisitor was my favorite of the three protagonists we've had so far. That said, I think it's time for a fourth. I like the idea of keeping the trend of someone new in each game. Initially, I chose option three, but on reflection I choose new hero who is an agent of the Inquisition. Why? The ending of DAI. Hate to see that ignored. There is that cabal who are the driving force of what's to come. Hence, I'd like to see this person working for the Inquisition. I'd laugh my ass off if the first scene shows the new protag standing before the Inquisitor with a pop up saying "Agent Acquired".
The person could even work more directly with Leliana. Maybe not spending much time at Skyhold so much as messages occasionally going back and forth via ravens. That could be a way of providing some direction in Tevinter. Just some thoughts behind my choice.

Do you prefer your Human PC to be a noble or commoner origin. The previous humans have been nobles of various standing, giving us an interesting insight into how their respective nations work. Tevinter is a more strictly class based society, largely due to the pro mage culture. I am hoping we are a Tevinter native from a Laetan family, we can either be the mage which enabled our promotion or the sibling of the mage and begin our struggle in the deadly politics of Tevinter. I actually like this idea. Also, the option should be available for a Tevinter native who has no magical abilities and how that affects the person. I'm thinking along the lines of a city elf in DAO from an alienage. In terms of elves, the city elf was an outcast. Same could be true of a Tevinter with no magic. Might be relatively unseen and a good spy, possibly a slave working of a debt.

At the end of the game, the PC rips off their rubber mask, revealing that WE were Solas the ENTIRE TIME!!! That would be like awesome.

Meh. For once I want the nobility part of human origin to be reversed. So if you are a Mage in Tevinter, you are elevated but if you are a rogue or warrior you are looked down upon. It would only be fitting for Tevinter.

It would only be fitting for Tevinter. There are mage slaves, servants and commoners in Tevinter. Like Fenris' sister, Varania. I would like to see that part of Tevinter too. And of course, I would like to see an altus origin too. And a tevinter Templar. Noble born.

At the end of the game, the PC rips off their rubber mask, revealing that WE were Solas the ENTIRE TIME!!! That would be like awesome. Unless there was some reason why Solas didn't know who he was, that would be awful. Since the player is the one assigning motives to the character's decisions (as well as making those decisions), in order for the motives behind those decisions to make sense the player needs to know literally everything about the protagonist's state-of-mind at literally every moment throughout the game. The only way the game can surprise the player with a revelation about the protagonist without breaking that protagonist's personality is if the new information was not known to the character (as in KotOR, or Planescape: Torment). If the game surprises the player with a revelation the character already knew (as happens in KotOR2, or with every use of the interrupt system in ME2), that fundamentally breaks the character by undermining roleplaying coherence.

I was going with inquisitor. But the more of this thread I read the more I am going with new protagonist. I found the people pushing that had a more compelling argument overall.

New protagonist here. I want to be reminded as little as possible of the end of Trespasser and what it meant for my player character. I lost to Solas, I lost politically, I lost my arm and I lost my magical extra. About as unpleasant an epilogue as I can imagine for a nominally good ending.

Whats more compelling about it? I agreed that his story was pretty much done and the end if anything lead into having a new protagonist that would surprise Solas. Add in a new protagonist opens up more options and I feel it works better. Also I think you can tie a new protagonist into the setting better assuming its Tevinter.

I laughed at that a bit harder than I should've but like others have mentioned that's a good reason why I want to play as the inquisitor. There would be nothing more satisfying then for my Solasmancer to hunt him down and kick him in the nuts. He did me dirty.

I can't vote in this poll because there is no option for "independent hero who has no chance for personal connection to the Inquisition at all because the Inquisition was in the LAST game and won't be in fricking DA4 ya dummies"

"No I must kill Solas!" he shouted. The eluvian said "No. You are the Solas." And then he was a Solas.

Still, two out of three ain't bad, you should have seen what happened to the other guys.

If the inquisitor does come back as the protagonist i hope we don't get a super magic/techno prosthetic that operates exactly like a normal hand.
I'd find it much more interesting if they got their own unique set of fighting styles with a simpler prosthetic that allows attachments such as a dagger, a buckler, one that holds a bow (or crossbow) in place and they draw with they're renaming hand etc.
Instead of one-handed/shield style and two-handed style, a warrior would have one-handed/buckler attachment and one-handed dps style.

I want something along the lines of these 4:
Tevinter native human.
Elf from Tevinter.(Which I think would be city elf, given that there are no Dalish in Tevinter)
Dwarf from Ambassadoria.
