I think it would be a cringy, shark-jumping move if the Inquisitor came back and had a crossbow arm. That's not the kind of protagonist that I want to see in the DA setting. But that's just my opinion. I'm sure that other people feel otherwise.

The Inquisitor's story is done, Solas isn't his villain to defeat, oppose sure, but Solas's plan will affect the whole world, there is certainly plenty of opportunity for a main character who wants to take down Solas as much as the Inquisitor

I would like to see a new poll asking not what people want the DA4 protag to be, but what they think it actually will be. Because people who think Inquisitor will actually return are just... I'd like to see how your brain works.

A Tevinter character with a background depending on their race and class would probably be perfect.
Just combine the DAO, DA2, and DAI systems really. DAO for the breadth, DA2 for the depth, and DAI for the involvement.

But that's just my opinion. I'm sure that other people feel otherwise. Actually Iron Bull was planned to have a prosthetic. [ 1] I believe the protagonist will be someone new, who isn't connected to the Inquisition, and must find a way to block a Dreamer's mind control/reading. Maybe it's something we will be granted from the beginning from Morrigan or Mythal, or maybe even Dorian or Cassandra. The theory with House Danarius is also interesting, maybe our protagonist will be someone connected to them. Dwarf - Lyrium supplier of House Danarius / stealing Red Lyrium experiments for the Dwarven Merchants' Guild. Elf - Slave of House Danarius / friend/family of House Danarius' slave, trying to save them / agent of Fen'Harel stealing the Red Lyrium. Human - Friend/family of House Danarius / member of Lucerni stealing the Red Lyrium. Qunari - Mercenary of House Danarius / theif trying to steal the Red Lyrium for the Qun. House Danarius' Red Lyrium experiment goes the wrong way while protagonist is present, giving them Red Lyrium powers including blocking Dreamers. Another possibility is maybe the protagonist is a random killed by the removal of the Veil while trying to shield their friends/family and a nearby Spirit will revive the protagonist and block Dreamers (like with the Seekers of Truth), and then of course making an omelette of the person that removed the Veil and killed their friends/family. - that is assuming the game starts with the removal of the Veil rather than being an endgame thing.

I said this before Inquisition too: I’d be very onboard with the protagonist being a Cole-style shade. Not as a twist or anything, but as something we know from the very start. Then the protagonist is free to ask extremely dumb or naive worldbuilding questions about (say) Tevinter or Par Vollen, and it would actually make sense with their character. Or, they could roleplay as a more knowledgeable spirit if desired. But the option to be a totally awestruck Fade native would be there. And there’s also the option to roleplay a spirit who is... also roleplaying, as the person whose body they’re mimicking. So there could still be species-specific flavor — Cole feels original!Cole’s memories as his own, so for all practical purposes the spirit did experience the unique upbringing their body came from. We also know from Cole’s arc that spirits-turned-flesh can eventually get to a point where they’re interested in romance. So LIs would be possible without seeming totally out of left field. But mostly I just love the mental image of a shade taking the form of a capital-Q Qunari, and trying to Octodad their way through Par Vollen without getting caught.

arvaarad Ok, I actually really dig the idea of being a spirit but not knowing it, like Cole in Asunder. Tomato-in-the-mirror situation. Or being possessed. After Wynne, Anders, and learning how the Avvar view possession, it'd be interesting to play that from a first-person perspective (she says, as her Hawke and Adaar recoil in horror).

I'm reminded of Mask of the Betrayer, one of my very favorite expansions... 👀 choosing between fighting the force within you or embracing it. That was some gud storytelling.

I'd be ok with my inquisitor as an advisor. Maybe inquisitor's advice is tailored to kill/redeem options from Trespasser. But I want a whole new protagonist to play and I don't care who faces Solas so long as he's stopped.

The downside to possession, rather than being a shade who made a body, is that you’re basically Ryder and SAM at that point. Yes, I’m still jelly that ME got an abomination protagonist before DA.

That does beg the question: will the possession be like SAM, an aide and guide, or like Venom who can hijack the PC?

Maybe a hidden point system like the Quirian/Geth conflict. Or the inquisitor's choice influences it, idk. I don't care much beyond stopping Solas.
