Okay everyone, let's say everyone is romanceable, no exceptions. Who's your pick? Mine is Neve. Yeah, based mainly on first game/trailer impressions and about her being interesting in what we've seen of her in Tevinter Nights and The Missing, Neve! But ol' Harding may steal my heart yet haha.

The more I think about it, the first video feels more of "hey we gotta do a current style trailer for younger people to get them interested".

The more I think about it, the first video feels more of "hey we gotta do a current style trailer for younger people to get them interested". What's more ironic about the whole situation is that "younger people" are actually more susceptible to brain rot like "anti-woke, anti-females" things that has been going rampant.

More of this would have been good for the trailer. We'll be seeing that, but whats with the glowing claws? Red Lyrium ... beasts? Red Lyrium Darkspawn (Darkspawn 2.0)? They look like red lyrium darkspawn and the characters are holding them back. There's also that one dude who's running away from them, probably to be safe with our characters. There's Evanuris statues behind the dragon and a big ball of something behind the statues. Are the characters in the Black City, holding back the darkspawn from that big ball? Are they holding back the darkspawn from getting to the dragon? Are they on the verge of escaping from this ruined and blighted place? Were they there to get something or someone?

I'm not out to get the game, and for the record, I liked MEA overall. I'm not some hater saying I'm underwhelmed to get my hate on. I'm saying it cus its true. Sorry if you feel like its peeing on your parade. I think it's one thing to be disappointed in the trailer, it's another to call it garbage and claim that it'll be the end of Bioware lol. Yeah, I think we need to not fall into the same trap as the people shrieking about woke and think about things in binary terms - you can feel disappointed by trailer without wishing fire and brimstone on Bioware, there are in betweens. I understand the people only wanting to feel hype (the wait has been excruciating), but it's important that criticism can be vented as well (otherwise devs will never see how people feel about things). After my initial reaction I've been soothed by other things I've seen, and I think others will as well once it's marketed. I will say though that the trailer direction really has me perplexed as it doesn't seem to match very well with how people say the game feels. Maybe it was intentional, who knows.

These 'it's actually good guys' type tweets are giving me flashbacks to the lead up to Andromeda. In any case I hope we see more than just combat tomorrow. Hopefully we'll see dialogue trees etc.

Hopefully we'll see dialogue trees etc. I think at least in regards of the tone of the game, it's not going to be that difficult to get the truth tomorrow. To me it seemed unlikely, considering who worked on the game, that the tone would've shift completely to not have any kind of dark or horror-like elements, given the writing team that worked on the game, but if this ends up being true and the game looks and sound different from the trailer, the marketing team should've likely done a better job in conveying that. As I said earlier, this kind of trailer might've worked better if it was released after the gameplay loop and other trailers. There's also the fact that, regardless of my concerns on the gameplay, it's definitely not going to be a hero shooter multiplayer game, as the direction of the trailer made many lean towards. I'd also say that the screenshots they released on twitter would fit well with the other games, Inquisition at least.

Mark Darrah said on his stream this was the best Trailer they have done. While I'd like for Mark to eventually expand on that (he also said that in terms of art style he'd wait for Tuesday to form an opinion on how the game actually looks like), he has never been part of the writing team, as far as I know. Darrah left Bioware in 2020, when they shift to single player. He was back then executive producer not writer. But they have said when he came back in 2023 as consultant he have written some parts. I think he have written some lore stuff.

You mean a guy that has been in BioWare since 1990s, been a writer, director and producer of Dragon Age games since the start? Oh yeah, he's completely unaware.
Sass appreciated, not what I meant.
What did you mean then? He was away from Bioware from 2020-2023. So he know The veilguard for more then a year.

Neck snapping and skeletons rising to gank someone from behind is considered kiddy now I guess. I never said I considered it kiddy, though. Fair point I guess but it still leaves the outstanding issues. Like the people who say it seems different from DA really must've only looked at the splash screens or something. Which is somewhat fair I suppose but the rest of the trailer? The bits that were gameplay? The actual bits in the tavern. Pretty tonally consistent with Dragon Age so I don't really think the gameplay reveal will be that much different then the trailer because it really does not need to be. Yet people see what they want to see. Its pretty well suspected that EA wanted it to be a MP live service game so bright colors, purple, that means it must be done in that tone and style.

Honestly I find it a bit puzzling how many reactions I’ve seen from people that seem to think a more saturated color palette in this one trailer means all “dark fantasy” elements have been abandoned and all dialogue will be an endless stream of Marvel quips.
The environments and outfits all seem to be in keeping with the art style from Inquisition by my judgement, if a bit fancier and more magical in places.

Thought this was interesting. Seems like the art style may have changed somewhat but we won't see the updated style until the gameplay reveal. Caitie ghildirthalenStyle is obviously very different from DAI. All DA's dont match, lets be real. We had a lot of notes on the art direction that we have been told- and shown- were changed that made it into the gameplay trailer that isn't in what showed today.

To be clear, I think the bits in the tavern are consistent with Dragon Age: it's just that they perhaps focused only on that side of the games for the trailer, alongside the overall tone, music and direction. Which might've overshadowed the serious elements you highlighted before, or even what happens to Bellara. It's no like it was taken in by a cuddly creature. In regards of the tone and style and the bright colors, I'd point out the screenshots offer a different perspective, with a mixture of the two.

I guess I am finally going to get to make this comparison. But yeah this trailer was quite packed because pretty sure...hmm let me check. Yeah the stand together trailer clocks in and 1:35 total. This trailer was 2:08 and included over two times as many companions. They had a lot to show in a veyr short amount of time and maybe that was a mistake...but really don't think so. Lots of blink and you'll miss it moments. So this trailer was a trailer version of the Rise of Skywalker. WHich I liked that movie too on first reaction...but same thing. Busy movie. Lots going on. So further rewatches, like with the trailer, gave me the time to process what was actually on the screen and see a lot of it. And yeah, weird choices were made in it but don't see the cause for alarm nor do I see it as some massive tonal break from previous games...or itself.

I hope I don't regret sharing my opinions.
I dislike the name "Veilguard". It sounds like the kind of cheesy name a group of D&D players give their party, rather than the name of a kickass game. I thought "Dreadwolf" was good.
I don't believe the new trailer will be representative of DA:V in any meaningful way. If you create a venn diagram of Pixar Movies, Fable, and Mobile games in general, this trailer would fit neatly in the overlap. This is a setting of Darkspawn, Grey Wardens, Archdemons, brutal civil wars, a Magocracy losing a war to a totalitarian culture that reeducates its citizens, etc... They always inject the right amount of levity and humor to create a balance, but the setting is pretty grim. I don't understand the thinking behind this trailer.
Gamers in general are deeply skeptical of BioWare. They certainly don't hang out on the BSN. This trailer was a poor start in winning their interest and positive sentiment. I hope future marketing, starting with the gameplay trailer, is very compelling. Making a good game won't be enough. They need it to sell (and to not be memed into irrelevance pre-release).

I re-watched the trailer and I'm convinced I'm not the target audience. Sure, we shouldn't judge the whole game based on a trailer, but I'm not surprised by the less-than-enthusiastic reactions. It's just so different from what many of us came to expect from and appreciate about the DA franchise. And it's never good when devs have to assure the audience that the actual game feels different from the trailer. Still, it's great that the gameplay reveal is tomorrow - I hope the ambivalent first impressions will be dispelled either way (and I do want to be enchanted by DAVe!)
