I forget there are some people who are just in one camp or the other. I prefer DA but I love me some ME when it's that series' turn. Me I prefer Sci-Fi but it was DA which got me to fantasy again after Runequest back in the day, and I love them both. There is nothing like them.

At least I liked science fiction more as a kid but DA and Thrones really has changed my preference over all.

ll three are comprised of 168 total nodes
I wonder if NG+ will be a thing? With a skill tree this big and only able to unlock half of it or so in a single game it seems like a waste. Also, 28 active abilities but we can only use 3 at a time? Whyyyy????
8 slots wasn't enough in DAI and we only had maybe 12-14 active abilities, including the Mark. This just seems like a bad joke. I can only cringe in despair at the finger gymnastics that will be required on kb/m to actually do all these things.
Historically, the games have not had this feature. However, I'm hoping with the more linear approach this title is taking, it's something worth considering. Also...
A real marvel is the passive skill tree from a free game called Path of Exile. Makes the Veilguard tree look like a baby. Ask me about this specifically when the game launches 😉 Shots fired!

I just saw a video saying because the main character interacted with the ritual, through his/her blood tying them to the fade according to Solas. They can communicate with each other. Hmmm...Hopefully a modder will create a shutup Solas mod like the shutup sam mod for MEA? I have that mod for MEA. It works. Just doesn't shut the sam voice up 100% of the time.

Sam was the lead character having a duck on a leash leading it around. Ryder was a duck without any quack. Solas is a nutcase who has a habit at failing whatever he tries to do.

Hopefully the conversations at the beginning will vary depending on class and origin. It would be disappointing if the conversation about demons and the Veil with mages was the same as with Rook, the rogue. Even a non-mage can know more, of course, but I would see that depending on the background. A non-mage from the Crows of Antiva or the Grey Wardens might know less about it, but the Shadow Dragons sound likely.

why would one play DA games at all in this case? I enjoyed the DAO combat and some (albeit rare) moments in DAI and the rest of DAI was OK if a bit boring. I think some of the boring moments could have been fixed by having more enemies on screen. 5 or fewer left combats being very same-y.
I also enjoy the combat in Origins (I am playing through a sword and shield rogue for my alternate state right now). Some of the comments make us sound a little like unicorns. Thanks, I guess (Unicorns are awesome!).

John Epler confirmed on Bluesky that Sylvia is Emmrich's lead writer! Here since I have no idea how to embed Bluesky posts. Also this means we've got three companions left whose leads haven't been confirmed and three people we know were in the writer's pit. Going to guess that Brianne Battye is Neve's primary since she wrote the relevant Tevinter Nights short story. So maybe Lukas Kristjanson = Harding and Sheryl Chee = Davrin?

Varric is HC, Harding is GM and Solas at best is Offensive Coordinator. Solas as OC? hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. With his history of failing at everything he touches, the offense will have a hard time scoring any points. What would the name of the team be? The Dragon Age Failures? hahahahahahahahahaha. There is one bright spot. They would be worse than my team. And that's saying something.

I enjoy RTwP games and prefer the player skill to be just thinking/planning skills over adding reflexes/reaction times to it, I prefer attacking/dodging and such to be determined by the characters skill. Both because I find trying to do it myself tiring and because it's a lot easier to roleplay whatever character I want when it's not based on my physical skill to pull it off. I also enjoy the full party control and surveying and manipulating the battlefield.
So i really enjoyed dao combat in fact it was the first game where i actually enjoyed the combat in of itself as opposed to it just being a thing i had to do to progress. Da2 combat suffered from no detached camera, no weapon switching, and enemy waves falling from the sky instead of approaching through logical ways which could make efforts to be strategic feel pointless in some fights. To be fair it also had better programmable tactics and faster animations (there's no reason characters in RTwP should move or attack slowly or why their animations shouldn't look cool). So while not as good as dao, da2's combat was still very enjoyable. Dai went significantly downhill due to the combination of turning off auto attack and hold commands in 3 person camera while also having a poor quality detached camera. The decrease in mechanical and thematic options for mages and the barely there programmable tactics didn't help either. Yet because i still could rely on character skill, pause and command and control a whole party, and survey the battlefield, it was still more enjoyable then many other games.
I am of course disappointed that they chose to transition to action combat instead of making better RTwP combat. But I accepted that decision long ago after the dai hybrid combat came out. They want to do live action player attack/dodge/block combat, they should do what they want to do.
Mass effect trilogy combat doesn't come close to as enjoyable as dao combat but it's still better than a lot of games out there cause i get to pause and select my parties targets and ability use. The trilogy also allowed alot of cover shooting though so player dodging and blocking wasn't necessary in the same way it would be in a game like datv with more melee. So we'll see how i go. I've heard talk of help with targeting and parry windows and if nothing else there will always be the easiest difficulty setting plus the unkillable setting. It's not the same as having actually fun combat of course but it should guarantee i can enjoy the story regardless.
BG3 has recently joined DAO in my most enjoyable combat category. Hopefully I'll be able to go to larian for fun turn based combat in the future. Sadly most other providers of RTwP combat have isometric with tiny little character models all the time and no to little voice acting, so who knows when i'll next get a RTwP game of DAO's quality again.

But I have no love for him since his team beat my team in the Superbowl Mass effect trilogy combat doesn't come close to as enjoyable as dao combat but it's still better than a lot of games out there cause i get to pause and select my parties targets and ability use. I like ME's combat. What DA has over ME is the ability to control a companion. It was fun controlling a companion while having the main character following. It will be missed in this game.

Well said.
AUTO-Attack in DA2 is what allowed me to play as a melee character. So, I enjoyed that experience for the first time. DAI removed all that I liked about DAO + DA2. BG3 is a game I lenjoy and can play. Combat is slow because of the "rules" but otherwise, It's a game I longed for quite some time.
Five levels of difficulty in DA:V is promising but until I see the castrated Mage in combat with a KB+M, I'll withhold my enthusiasm. I'm hoping some KB keys can be assigned to the mouse. I still have my MMO mouse somewhere, which has 12 buttons.
