My "gut" says Fall 2021...which is based on entirely nothing haha...other than maybe a sense of "momentum" as to how the narrative around the game seems to be ramping up into 2020 and games meant for 2020 seem to be already getting hype (Cyberpunk, Watchdogs, Last of Us 2, etc). I'd also say they'd probably don't want to straddle console upgrades like they did with PS3/PS4 and XBox360/XBox One but it appears the next console generations are keeping backwards compatibility in their plans so maybe they need iteration with 4K DLC enhancements. the lack of news on new consoles might be why we don't have a lot of news on 4. If they're developing it for them. 2021 will forever be a much better year to release DA4. On this hill I will die.

On this hill I will die. it is going to be for me anyways. Since I'm expecting a new Assassin's Creed game that year that should drop hopefully around the time DA4 would drop I'd likely have to choose. Now DA4 would win that fight but if it releases in 2021 I can get both near launch with no qualms.

They've never gone more than 2 years between releases. If they follow the same pattern as Origins and Odyssey, we could see new AC games in late 2020 and 2021.

It's already October and we have zero info about a new game other than vague rumors and Breakpoint seems to be their 'big game' this year and it's been a year already since Odyssey dropped. So 2020 for AC Vikings 2022 for the one after that...if they do one. Hell we could be really wrong and get ACV in 2021 and be screwed again lol.

Like Origins, I expect a skip year before the next one. So again, AC: Vikings in late 2020 would be my guess. And Ubi likes to officially announce their AC games at E3, then release in Oct. the same year. So we'll have to wait till then to find out for sure.

Taylor ⚡ 🐍 @cyberpunknoireHi. I really hope his queerness is acknowledged in some way and that this isn't some weird hetero retcon or I'll be super disappointed Christina Weir Christina WeirThis isn't a romance story for Fenris, so it doesn't impact much but since he was a romance option for both male and female Hawke, we write him as bi.

*salty* I had declared I wouldn't buy any more material until the game was declared as being real. But Fenris has my heart. So I will have to reconsider my stance and see if I give in. meh.
That all said, In spite of Alistair being a soft touch, I still found his hardened comic book version believable. I hope the writers consider various potential world states and try to bend without breaking the character. This would be the first time they'd have an old character "on screen" at length.

If Fenris is being set up to be brought back as a potential companion in DA4, it could be really interesting to see how this plays out. If they also go forward with the option to try to kill Solas or redeem Solas, maybe you'll be able to hire Fenris for the killing arc. I wonder what that fight would be like? And if you choose to redeem Solas, then maybe if Fenris is in your party, he'd leave?

My reaction to that image:
"Oh, its an elf... who's made of clouds, apparently? Odd artistic choice. I really question these covers sometimes. Still pretty, though. Look at the tat--" *sees the little three dot pattern*
*zooms back up the image and stares at the face*
*zooms to paragraph and sees the word "Fenris"* Well, grats, Bioware. I wasn't going to buy the comics before, but I am definitely buying this one! I had managed to tamp down my hopes for a Fenris cameo, I really had. Despite the next game taking place in Tevinter; despite Fenris' current whereabouts being mentioned in DAI if Hawke romanced him; despite Denarius being mentioned in the previous comics. I had managed to stomp that hope down, dammit. Then this happens! So, to the writers of this comic: Both thank you and how dare? Also, regarding how this could tie into DA4, or even just what could happen in this comic itself, I just wanna say: Solas, Fenris, and Dorian in the same room is now all I want from life. (Which is good, b/c getting it might actually kill me. lol) But yeah...
EDIT: Of course, IF Fenris ends up cameoing in the next game in his freeman form, he might ALSO end up cameoing in his enslaved form... Good chance for Bioware to provide even more consequences to one of the evilest choices they've ever given us. So, yay!(?) It'll be one of the fastest youtube searches I've ever done to see that scene. lol

And if you choose to redeem Solas, then maybe if Fenris is in your party, he'd leave? I think it'd depend on the circumstances of the "redemption": what Solas has actually done or been indirectly responsible for by the time it happens, how much Fenris has seen and actually been around for, etc. I wouldn't see Fenris leaving. If he deems Solas unworthy of the forgiveness he's offered or thinks you are being fooled or blind in offering it, I could see him attacking and turning on you. On the other hand, I could see Fenris being able to accept it if Solas hasn't crossed a moral event horizon, and Fenris has come to trust the protag's judgement, *and* he's spoken to Solas himself and judges him sincere. Admittedly, that's a lot of conditions. lol

Yeah, I guess if Solas goes all "Free the slaves!" like he did in the past, he and Fenris might end up as unlikely allies... At least until Solas starts tearing down the Veil... (If he gets that far.)

Yeah, of course he would. I mean, really, Fenris "hunts" slavers and other evil assholes. He doesn't hunt down innocent people who happen to be mages, but he also sure as heck ain't gonna shy away from attacking magic users. If the evil assholes happen to have magic sticks, its just gives him bonus exp.

For those who have read the Dragon Age novels: What's been the overall quality of their stories? I've read Last Flight, Masked Empire, and Asunder. Last Flight was slow pacing-wise, but the lore was interesting. Masked Empire was a solid story with good characters, even if you hated them. And Asunder was the best all around, imo. I liked the plot, the characters, the romance, everything.
So: Okay, pretty good, and great, respectively.
Yeah, I guess if Solas goes all "Free the slaves!" like he did in the past, he and Fenris might end up as unlikely allies... At least until Solas starts tearing down the Veil... (If he gets that far.) I could see this as long as Fenris doesn't know about the whole veil tearing at any point. I think, if he does, then any alliance with Solas would be gone. Fenris is smart enough to know that freeing slaves ain't gonna matter if everyone, both slave and free, melts in the fires of chaos afterwards.
Like, I see a narrow set of conditions where Fenris would not want to kill Solas. So far, Solas is threatening to kill the world, so that's already a strike against him. But, if he changes his mind before he does damage to innocent people, he might stand a chance.

They're not like Tolkien or Jemisin, but they can give some extra perspective to things that happen in the games. If you're unsure whether you'll like them, can you borrow them from your local library?

ETA: Also for example, I just checked the Edmonton Public Library, and they have: Novels:The Stolen Throne by David Gaider; The Calling by David Gaider; Asunder by David Gaider; Hard in Hightown by Varric Tethras and Mary Kirby; The Masked Empire by Patrick Weekes; Last Flight by Liane Merciel; Graphic Novels:Magekiller Issues 1-5; The Silent Grove; Those Who Speak; Until We Sleep; Knight Errant; RPG Rulebooks:
Dragon Age Core Rulebook Faces of Thedas: A Dragon Age RPG Rulebook Coffee table books:The World of Thedas Vols. 1 & 2; The Art of Dragon Age Inquisition; Videos:Dragon Age Redemption streaming video; Video Games:
DA2 for PS3; DAI for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4; In theory, I think I could borrow any of these from my small rural Alberta town library via interlibrary loan. So anyway, libraries carry a LOT of stuff these days.

🐉 wii sports jock 🐉 @turbogandalf Hi @patrickweekes I love the knight errant & deception comics and i'm really curious: how much of the narrative & character decisions come from the lead DA writers, and how much is up to the comic authors?
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes Tricky question! Short version:
- We at BW (me, Matt Goldman, Nick Thornborrow) give a high-level “Here’s what kind of story we’re interested in.” - Comic writers (Christina and Nunzio currently) propose a story based on that. - We at BW offer lore adjustments as needed.
So the great folks at Dark Horse, and Christina and Nunzio specifically, are telling a story they own, and we are making sure it fits with where we want to take the franchise.
