I thought that was the original focus of DA4.... save Thedas.
Why do you think they changed the title?
To be fair to them, people were saying how saving the world was getting a little tired and really it was starting to feel a bit like Corypheus 2.0, with the antagonist just being a bit more "complicated" and "relatable". (Corypheus could have been if they had taken the trouble with him). I can imagine the marketing team asking how they were going to sell this to a wider demographic who weren't familiar with the Dreadwolf? Then the whole team realised that everyone keeps saying how our strengths are our story telling and our characters, so let's make the focus the team and their story together. Bingo!
Also, they have a point. With the exception of DA2, in both the MET and the previous DA games it was about saving the world. DAO and DAA may have focused on the threat to Ferelden but we were told if we didn't stop it there it would spread. Of course, we didn't eradicate the Blight entirely but we did drive it back underground. DAI was definitely about saving the world. However, what do people mostly talk about? The interactions with characters in the game, friends and foes, but particularly the companions.

The man's been trained and programmed his entire life to be the Crow of all Crows, heir to an empire of hitmen, essentially. He's focused on the job - unlike his cousin Illario, easily distracted by the parties, clothes, women and booze - he seems to be all about the mission: "a Crow always fulfill their contract". But he lets an eyewitness go, a slave girl, and takes pity on the magister's other victims (which led to a massacre, sure), the cruelty inflicted upon them making him see red. But this tells me that Lucanis has a heart, a heroic side to him, and maybe why he feels he shouldn't be First Talon, and gives him a grim outlook on life. I see a guy who doesn't want to be a killer, but killing is all he's known. Should he be denied a chance at something more...?
"They allow themselves to be corralled like cattle, mindless. Now their masters have chosen death for them and I say let them have it". - Morrigan
What's this w3igmaker thing? And who is Oliver? If this is stuff from books/comics/whatever, it means nothing to me.
It's from the short story compilation Tevinter Nights. Oliver is Colfoley's character he plans on using. Lucanis divided opinion when that first came out and it seems he still is. From the writers PoV I would say that is a success. If you want to know more:
Long story short. Lucanis was contracted to assassinate a leading Venatori by an anonymous client, who paid really well. He already knew his mark was a blood mage of dubious reputation. Most of those, if not all of those at his fashion show were fellow Venatori. Lucanis already noted the models on the catwalk looked mind controlled and the wigs had a life of their own. During his progress through the mansion he encountered and spared the life of a slave who saw him. She was in favour of him slaying her master for reasons Lucanis would discover if he followed Forfex into his den. There he discovered that his target was using mutilated slaves to produce his wigs by feeding them red lyrium. They were still alive, barely, but in dreadful agony. Lucanis flipped out and decided he wanted to exact vengeance on Forfex and everyone who supported him. He made his cousin see all the household slaves to safety whilst he unleashed demons upon everyone else, finally killing his mark after having made him witness the destruction of everything he had created. Then he ensured the demons returned to the Fade before leaving himself.
Oh and it was revealed in the course of the story that Lucanis is the favourite of his tyranical grandmother, who trained him from a child using physical and emotional abuse, who saw him as her successor as First Talon of the Crows. Lucanis doesn't want it but his cousin Illario does but you "don't refuse Caterina". Then in the short story the Wake, Illario was bemoaning the death of his cousin. Clearly he was not dead but it is unclear whether or not Illario knows this. I think this may be significant in game.

Exactly. Cold blooded killer carrying some semblance of humanity is one of the coolest archetypes in fiction.
I'm not sure why you would want to replace that for another Liam.
Should he be denied a chance at something more...?
He likes cooking, don't forget that. May be after we've saved the world we can encourage him to open a fancy restaurant. (Just don't criticise the chef)
Just listen to the conversations she has with Cole and you get a far different picture. She lied to get a rival noble in Orlais to make a foolish move against the Inquisition. That's corruption in a high level. She hates Cole so much she tries to bait him into some mistake so it can end in bloodshed and destruction ("Blood or banishment, either will suffice.") She destroyed innocent mages in the Spire because they would not fight by her side with the Templars. She has no pity and no room for any sort of remorse that she would consider a weakness.
I soon understood some of these while keeping her in the group in one of the earlier pt, after that she has not been in any of my games. Pretending to be so high and mighty good, nope.

Plus, he has a mullet. If you don't like Lucanis, you're clearly mullet-phobic, and should be having a conversation with yourself about why that is.

I'm curious how Lucanis broke his programming to even have a heart as that shouldn't be a trivial matter. For a character driven game, I would of loved to have been a part of that kind of like Killua from hxh. Obviously a far more mature version. That being said I'm interested in how the writers will handle it.
So was I and I've already argued that he does not have a proper 80s mullet. I do like his longer hair though. Plan on having longer hair myself but preferably not a mullet. Just flowing in the breeze.

I remember the time when Mullet + somekind of bulk strand hair + all other areas cut to 2mm was a thing Never had that but I had mullet because I hated going to barber (so sensitive skin).

That's been my chief interest too, ever since I read his story in Tevinter Nights. That's why I found this quote from the panel encouraging:
- Lucanis has a heart but he is stubborn and is stuck in his ways. Zach is excited for fans to help his character open up as the story progresses.
I already knew he had a heart so I want to discover more about him and help him break free of his past. As we've discussed on his dedicated thread, there may be more to it than meets the eye. Also from what Mary Kirby, his writer, has said the whole thing is likely to get really messy before it gets better. There is also this:
- “his mind is as dangerous as his knives” and also “kinda hilarious”.
This makes me think there may be some rather dark humour in his conversations. Still, apparently at least he is on board with saving the world rather than destroying it unlike the mild mannered friendly apostate elf, who said all the right things whilst clearly not meaning them and disarmed me with false flattery. I got the impression from Tevinter Nights that Lucanis can be counted on to be brutally honest if nothing else.

I was alive in the eighties, I do hate mullets. (This isn't the only reason I dislike Gale Dekarios but I can't say it's not a contributing factor.)
As the wise ones say, "Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it".
And totally with you about Gale. I tried to mod him a new hairstyle, but then he went from 80s pop star hair to 2010s pop star hair, and so I'm just giving up on romances altogether.
Ah yes, Mullets. Everyone I knew had one. I even saw parents with their children all having Mullets. excellent. Hmmm......I might have my character have a mullet for the first playthrough.

Exclusive Interview with The Directors of Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Will there be returning characters? Will the light prevail against the darkness? Will our comic book and graphic novel knowledge of Dragon Age finally come into play?
Lucanis fits the mold of a psychopath. He lacks remorse. He is a successful contract killer ( another Jimmy Moody ) who can compartmentalize and detach himself from the victim's humanity.
He is the type of person I would want on my roster. He doesn't let distraction's or any stuff bother him to get the job done.
Snip
No question about that.
However, his only loyalty is to the contract. I see nothing that prevents him from accepting a new contract to remove your head or any of the other companions, for that matter. Now I'd find it amusing if the writers did include such a twist in the story... here we are in the middle of a boss fight and suddenly there is two instead of three of you....
Hm... would Bio be that dastardly? I say yes but Bio won't do that as it makes the presence of Lucanis a non starter. So at the end of the day, Lucanis is written not to chop our heads off.

Aah... but is it written that way or just a marketing ploy? ... 'cause I have no desire to enter "General Hospital".

You do realize that from both the Law and justice point of view Lucanis deserves the Noose? But as this is a game, .... I ask myself can Lucanis be trusted? Can we change him for the better, say to the level of Neutral-Good?
