Regarding the imported choices being limited and the Community Council's views on this... Caitie ghildirthalen In a mix of ‘im not sure what i can say’ and ‘i dont want to speak for everyone’, /I/ at least was disappointed and spoke up against it. BW heard and implemented a lot of positive changes- so dont take this as ‘they never listened’. But yeah- a bummer. Yet there's Harding, Varric, Solas and Morrigan and other imported media like books/comics. I'd rather these characters matter than just, "Oh hi! Remember me! Okay, that was fun. I'm going to fuck off now! Check please!" I am sad about the well choice and Kieran, because Morrigan is in the game.

I suspect they decided to do a Steam release (more money there) and there wasn't enough time to cover all bases and requirements.
But the 2024 GOTY is now open for DAV.
Do you think Black Myth: Wukong can fight with DA:TV for it? I'm playing that now. In a normal conversation, I would say they shouldn't be compared. Based on pure numbers, seems like a slam dunk. I don't think DAVe will get those numbers. Still though, it could get nominated for other categories. Here's hoping.

Morrigan is coming back, and I can't believe they would just ignore her potential son; especially how it effected her character arc in DAI. Unless if her son died somehow and that's why she is back. We just know it's limited, but I doubt it's 3 choices.

For new players thing, they could've just had a 'pick default world state' as well. They did it for every past Dragon Age and it went over fine. This is definitely the decision that bums me out the most. I understand that they really wanted to make the new game more approachable to new players, so filling the CC with a lot of choices maybe wouldn't be the best case with new players in mind, but I think that, if we are really getting "just a few" choices, that would be the worst case for "old players". Then those player should play Veilguard with the Default setting aka not import the choices if those are too much to handle. In DAI it works fine and to be honest (besides Varric telling many things what happened before DAI) at the beginning there wasn´t that many import choices. Also its totally ok if Veilguard had cut most of the Keep choices and even retcon some like Merrills survival. But no Kieran getting mentoned and no Fenris is bad move.
agreed! besides that, I guess that DA:TV will be even more difficult for new players to understand what is happening than DA:I. So, again, less choices in the CC won't do any good and, by the controversy that is starting to appear, it will do the exactly opposite.

Bioware isn't "feeding into it" - they've been underlining for years that Trespasser is very important, and given everything that happened in the DLC (and what we saw in Veilguard and what the devs are currently saying, including Epler saying how central Solas' story is to DAVe in latest article) I'm confused how anyone could call it "an optional epilogue adventure". It isn't a "true ending" of Inquisition, because - as we know already - the story of Inquisitor doesn't end there and continues (to an unknown extent) in Veilguard, but it its the most important content released that bridges two inter-connected titles together that takes the burden of leading unwieldy Inquisition so they could focus entirely on their new mission and effectively tells us what Veilguard is going to be about, for the most part (Solas and the mystery of ancient past that led to creation of Thedas as we know it). (but when it comes to "why they released it as part of the base game" - the release of Trespasser was reliant on Inquisition's success, as it was the only reason why they were capable of making it, a year after release. The realties of game development are what they are, though we do know that the current Game Design Director thinks that it should have been a part of the base game) because it is? Virtually anything that happened during it could be explained quickly in the Veilguard prologue as we've already seen given pretty much all the events are canon in Tresspasser. Solas always goes off to destroy the world. The Inquisitor always looses their arm. And the Inquisition in some form always opposes Solas and this was set up in the ending for Inquisition when he left us. I think you don't remember how much Trespasser has established. The only thing we knew at the end of Inquisition is that Solas is *potentially* an ancient elf that calls himself the Dread Wolf - I remember speculations prior to Trespasser that even put into question whether Solas is even an ancient elf, and wondering whether he's more a being like Flemeth (a wisp of an ancient being that Solas stumbled upon). We didn't actually know if he was really THAT Dread Wolf from folk tales, what his nature was... and you must have forgotten entirely that Inquisition didn't establish AT ALL that he was the creator of the Veil, or didn't go into any detail of Fen'Harel being a rebel against tyrannical god-kings. Like, honestly - how do you think many people managed to correctly guess where the DAVe story is heading? Because they inferred it from Trespasser. We can't infer anything like it from the ending of Inquisition or its post-epilogue scene, in any shape or form. If there was no Trespasser, the short Veilguard prologue would feel very much "wait, where's this coming from"? It only makes sense because we have Trespasser. It's both an ending to Inquisition and a prologue to Veilguard. I don't really see it that way (or at least, I think it's more complex than that); if anything it feeds into the 'regret' theme. However, Inquisitor growing increasingly responsible for the world and it being potentially problematic has been established... in Trespasser (Teagan: "You act as though you're the solution to every problem. How long before you drag us all into another war?"). Which also serves as point of connection between Inky and Solas. The responsibility they feel doesn't have to come from a bad place, but still can come with mixed results.

Have you never heard of an MCU or a Saga? Or the Mass Effect trilogy? They did the Arrival dlc in Me2 to prep for Me3. Requiring you to watch/play previous content to understand the new content is nothing new. Also, players can watch the cutscenes on YouTube or play the game if they wish to. plus I forgot to bring it up to Tea but consider Legacy. Was Legacy the true ending to DA 2 because it introduced the big bad of Inquisition? No, I think it was optional to. But it still happened whether we played it or not and the events as to what we needed to know were still referenced in Inquisition whether we played it or not. Yet again, I have to point out - this whole argument hangs entirely in presupposition that "because things happened that way in DA2 and Inquisition, it must mean that things between Inquisition and Veilguard will be identical too". They're not. Trespasser and Legacy share only what most DA DLCs share, which is bringing up information that are be important in the future title, but in terms of storytelling weight, Trespasser blows Legacy (and any other DA DLC) entirely out of the water. And since we're starting to go in circles again... for me, this discussion is over, especially with the latest article. John Epler and Corinne Busche have stated - (yet again) in no uncertain terms - just how important Trespasser is to the main DA story, how Veilguard continues from it and and how Solas-centric DAVe story is. There really is nothing else to say here, so I likely won't do so anymore (not on this thread anyway). The only thing that's left now is playing the game itself and seeing how that story concludes and where it's going next.

It shouldn´t be a question how many choices are left but more which are making sense for Veilguard precisely for the time 9:54 Dragon and the locations it features. Therefore you can cut a lot of Keep choices and some shouldn´t even ones for DAI. My "favorite" the Ostagar prisoner who cares about this choice he dies regardless what the player did to him.

The part about Morrigan is good to know, although I'll keep my expectations in check on how much she'll appear. I'm glad they're being honest about the number of import choices in the game, but I still think it's a lackluster number, as well as number of references in the game from past ones. I get the point about moving north helping avoiding those mentions, but to reduce the number of choices to Trespasser's and the romance for the Inquisitor is honestly too low. Without talking about Morrigan, I'm curious and concerned on *how* they're going to address the romance of the Inquisitor, given that Cassandra presents a unique situation given her possibly being the Divine. Given what they said, I do hope that in case this games does well and there'll be another one, that they'll reconsider this stance. I'm not bothered that much. We're yet to see the game and see how this story unveils and concludes, but - while we don't know it'll happen - I've said already a few times that the initial Keep/worldstate setup isn't the only way they could bring back past choices. I mean, if we can decide what some our Rook's past was through dialogue options (I remember it being mentioned), there's no reason we can't establish our choices while playing the game, through picking dialogue options, etc. It would also make more sense - new players don't really care who the Divine was, or what Well Of Sorrows is, to bother setting it up - and for old ones bringing relevant choices at the very starts of the game effectively means spoilers. Dunno if it will happen, but I just want to point out that the Keep/initial choices aren't the only way to bring back worldstate choices from old games. I'd be more then happy for that to happen, and yes, import choices aren't the only way to bring back previous choices. I'd say that personally, given the interview, that I'm not too hopeful about this. I get the reasoning about keeping it under wraps and surprise the player, but given how a lot of longtime players are connected with their previous choices and how they wouldn't like the part about only 3 import choices, I think they'd have stated you can influence previous games' decisions out of the CC, but we'll see. About the discussion on the Well of Sorrows, I thought there'd be good chances that they'll have lead Morrigan to have Mythal's spark regardless of the Well, so I get why they decided the choice to not have a consequence on the game. As I said earlier, in any case, I hope that for the next game the import choices/in-game choices for previous games are more robust.

Dragon Age is my favorite franchise of all time, so I can't be objective in this.

Well, BG3 sold really well, but that "really well" means 15-20 million copies, while e.g. Elder Ring sold around 25 and The Last of Us sold around 30 million. Yet, it's BG3 that became the first game ever to win every major GOTY award.

Numbers will play a big part (and I'm not overly invested in whether or not DAVe becomes GOTY) but they do also give some weight to other factors. DAI won in 2014 with good numbers and good reviews, but also - I think - simply by being the first 'big' game to release on the PS4/XB1 consoles. Meaning - it got 'noticed' for something other than its sales.

Trying to see if a digital Upgrade is worth it Digital upgrade fluff is almost never 'worth it' (objectively) and that applies to almost any game. I'm not knocking it, it's something for the most committed fans who have disposable income. No-one should be troubled that they are buying the base edition. It's a digital version of a steelbook. I've ordered one because I'd like 'all the things'. I own a 'Legion of Dawn' Anthem edition too (don't all laugh at once).
As for GOTY, if DAV picks up some nominations and a few GOTYs from certain media outlets then it will have more than done its job. FF7, Astro Bot, Wukong, who knows which game captures the zeitgeist and it probably doesn't matter. Though 2024 is not turning out to be a year of gaming behemoths like 2025 could be shaping up to be.

I never said Trespasser wasn't important just not neccessary to play. And since we know that Veilguard begins deliberately en medias res even less so since the 'wait what' is almost a natural part of such stories. The audience isn't supposed to know what's going on which is why there is next to no exposition until the initial crisis passes. Then, like with any other piece of extended DA media, the player will be filled in with what we NEED to know later. Like with what happened with Legacy, we didn't have to play it but were filled in on what we needed to know regardless. Or the details we NEEDED to know from Asunder and Masked Empire were related in game, we didn't need to read them.

GOTY talk is way too premature. Let's wait for reviews to come out first.
Right now, Astro Bot is the clear frontrunner and it will be difficult to beat. It is this innoffensive, cutesy platformer that got praise from pretty much everyone. DATV on the other hand will have to deal with expectations from some parts of the playerbase. I kinda doubt it will manage to please everybody...

I suspect they decided to do a Steam release (more money there) and there wasn't enough time to cover all bases and requirements.
But the 2024 GOTY is now open for DAV.
Do you think Black Myth: Wukong can fight with DA:TV for it? That Soulsskin game? Doubtful, assuming that the game is good, I'd say Veilguards biggest contenders are FF7: Rebirth, Helldivers 2, and Stalker 2.

I think final fantasy and astro bot are the current favourites My presumption will be the following: Definitive GOTY contenders - Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth - AstroBot (Which I believe will probably be the winner) Possible GOTY contenders - Black Myth: Wukong (its got a lot of online gaming community support in its corner, even if reviews places it as 'Good') - Helldivers 2 (similar situation as Wukong) - Legend of Zelda: Echoes (I'm going to assume it will be here because people love the shit outta Zelda. Could be wholly wrong though) There's one other game that might land a GotY nomination (Metaphor: ReFantazio), and it was made by the studio that made the critically acclaimed Persona 5. So while there is technically room for Dragon Age: The Veilguard to ink in some room, it's got competition. Oh, and - of course - it still has to be a good game. If DAtV turns out to be good, at the very least it will be nominated for RPG of the year. Personally, I think it will likely lose this category to Rebirth.
