I don't like remakes getting a lot of the awards. Hopefully Dragon Age is good so it can beat out Final Fantasy.

I think final fantasy and astro bot are the current favourites My presumption will be the following: Definitive GOTY contenders - Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth - AstroBot (Which I believe will probably be the winner) Possible GOTY contenders - Black Myth: Wukong (its got a lot of online gaming community support in its corner, even if reviews places it as 'Good') - Helldivers 2 (similar situation as Wukong) - Legend of Zelda: Echoes (I'm going to assume it will be here because people love the shit outta Zelda. Could be wholly wrong though) There's one other game that might land a GotY nomination (Metaphor: ReFantazio), and it was made by the studio that made the critically acclaimed Persona 5. So while there is technically room for Dragon Age: The Veilguard to ink in some room, it's got competition. Oh, and - of course - it still has to be a good game. As for GOTY, if DAV picks up some nominations and a few GOTYs from certain media outlets then it will have more than done its job. FF7, Astro Bot, Wukong, who knows which game captures the zeitgeist and it probably doesn't matter. Though 2024 is not turning out to be a year of gaming behemoths like 2025 could be shaping up to be. If DAtV turns out to be good, at the very least it will be nominated for RPG of the year. Personally, I think it will likely lose this category to Rebirth. yeah tough field for RPGs, woof

I'm playing that now. In a normal conversation, I would say they shouldn't be compared. Based on pure numbers, seems like a slam dunk. I don't think DAVe will get those numbers. Still though, it could get nominated for other categories. Here's hoping. Will they even be allowed to sell DAVe in China? Doesn't their "ministry for culture" or whatever prohibit a lot of entertainment content that features nudity and/or LGBT content? Or have I been misinformed? no, you are right about that. I watch a lot of c dramas. In 2020 after the success of The Untamed and Word of Honor , there was a lot of drama involving the lead actors ( and we have to thank for that to the western fans) the Ministry of Culture banned all the LGBT content. There are like 5 BL dramas that were ready for release at that time , but they had to put them on the back. Also you can't show blood or skeletons in videogames . Cina doesn't have a PG rating for TV shows and I believe the same goes for videogames

I'll be honest I was never impressed with Dragon Age's import states, as opposed to Mass Effect's which leveraged past choices *substantially* throughout the series. Dragon Age was pretty weak by comparison, like when the old god baby decision was effectively handwaved by Flemeth. I was already disappointed when the Keep was dropped, so my expectations were already low in this regard.
People have brought up the well a lot, but I find that's probably one of the more irrelevant decisions when it comes to the story at large post-Inquisition (where it did affect the story). I could come up with a number of ways why it's not relevant. One could be that Mythal won't impose her will on the Inquisitor/Morrigan in *this* story so it's not something that matters. Another is that the link was severed when Solas absorbed her essence in the outro.
Overall, I'm actually satisfied with the answer they gave. More importantly, I care more that my choices influence the *current* plot rather than have them be propagated in some arbitrary way in some indeterminate future and it seems to be the case here. I do expect my choices to be respected however, and so as long as they are not overwritten via canon (without explanation), the continuity is preserved.

Haven't they said they'll be other returning characters from the games and not just already confirmed ones? No, but DAI only has 4 non-Quantum characters post Trespasser (i.e. always part of "it", always alive and their post-Trespasser state is the same regardless of what happens in game): - Varric - Solas - Josephine - Dorian Cassandra only has the Divine/not-Divine state that stop her from fitting on that list and if the devs wanted they can work around that part too.

The acting director didn’t recognize Josephine so wouldn’t be surprised if she’s not in it. After all she’s not in the part of Antiva we’re going to. And Dorian’s role I could see being taken by Mae instead.

Ubisofts CEO has been getting a lot of pushback from investors. Star Wars Outlaws falling below expected sales probably also prompted an immediate turnabout. The studio Shadows said the game is feature complete, but wants to continue polish. My guess. The studio and investors pressured the Publisher to delay the game.
Investors are unhappy and the latest AC does not reflect Japanese culture and the game/Ubisoft got a lot of backlash for it. This guy explains : https://youtu.be/HwhVyen2CPY

I do expect my choices to be respected however, and so as long as they are not overwritten via canon (without explanation), the continuity is preserved. that's because the MET was a trilogy of direct sequels which very much led into each other. Dragon Age is a series of stories which while they tell a larger narrative aren't really direct sequels either.

Does Assassin's Creed Shadows quitting to February throw any sales toward Dragon Age? Maybe, but I think the only cross-over between the two franchises is that they are ARPG's (to some varying degree). Don't know if that pushes the needle or not, as I imagine there's less people who know or have played a lot of the Dragon Age games relative to AC.

Assassin's Creed has never been historically accurate. It uses those settings to tell a fictional story like the Ghosts games. The tag line History is our PLAYGROUND is there for reason. Assassin's Creed is not a history book.

Yeah, having only 3 DA:I choices carry forward did surprise me. Morrigan alone has some pretty important world states, obviously. So I'm guessing any previous companion or character who is quantum won't make an appearance DA:V. And it's not just the ones who could be dead, but anyone who could have been missed/not recruited or had a widely diverging end-state. Apart from the ones we know and Dorian, Josie would likely be the only other potential from DA:I. I also wonder how the Inquisitor will speak of their LI if they have widely diverging end-states, like Iron Bull, Cass, or Blackwall.

And as far as GotY goes... Astrobot is the current darling and does look like the one to beat. The shine came off FF Rebirth and Black Myth pretty quick, so we'll just have to wait and see how DA:V fares. AC: Shadows moving to next year... if they need the time, take the time. And yes, it does work to DA:V's favor. They were a little too close together for my liking.

I've heard conflicting sales rumors, so it's hard to say. The numbers seem to be better now that more info is coming in. I think the most important thing though is that everyone seems to love it, and it came in at the right time.

Doesn't their "ministry for culture" or whatever prohibit a lot of entertainment content that features nudity and/or LGBT content? Or have I been misinformed? It seems there is heavy misunderstanding on China. I'm Chinese and would like to clarify as best as I can. Although in China the politics in general leans to conservatism, and censorship is somewhat ambiguous, most (99.999...%) video games can be bought. Especially, we can conveniently play games on digital platforms such as steam, EA app, Uplay, PSN, XBox Game, etc. These are not prohibited, though may not be promoted neither. We are not primitive people or barbarians. In fact, China has been growing to one of the most important markets of video games. Go check the sales of big games like Baldur's Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077, etc. However, Dragon Age is not so popular here, from what I observe. The main reason is that the localization has been terrible. There is no Chinese subtitle or text in all DA and ME games, unlike other competitors (games from Bethesda, CDPR, Larian, Ubisoft). There are still some groups of die-hard fans building patches for this. A few days ago, the patch for Chinese text in Inquisition was released, ten years after the launch. Million words are translated into Chinese, with incredible passion and countless effort. As for DATV, I'm glad that Chinese text is added officially. Unfortunately, the war between woke and slept would harm the reputation and sales of the game.
