Are you hyped? I repeat - ARE YOU HYPED???
Although I have no idea why you should be hyped. Yeah, it releases tomorrow, but let's be real. We already know what it's all about. We've seen it and there is already a better game out there that does everything on a higher level of polish. Dialogue is the same cringe-fest most of the time, RP is pretty much non-existent, there are no improvements on the story or quest front. We can't do anything through the dialogue wheel and our choices don't matter one bit.
Yeah, graphics are shinier and combat has been mostly ok. But doesn't it feel that it's just another greedy cash grab from a company that keeps going in an anti-consumer direction? And yet people can't wait to throw more money at it. Who needed this release anyway?
But enough about the Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster. I want to talk Veilguard now.
Less than 29 hours until we plaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!

Honestly your last question is pretty much the whole thing I got. Like obviously dancing around and wondering how to address these points and not going too much into the weeds...but that thought has occured to me a lot, in some form, that 'hat you were fine with BioWare doing all this stuff with bathroom humor and juvenile jokes and petty character ecomplaints but now its a bad thing?' Like I have to wonder if its not BioWare who has changed but the audience in some ways. And what does THAT say about me? But then with the social issues, like I have my politics, but BioWare has always addressed social issues. And whether or not I agree with the specifics I have always been fine about it because A. they have always been open and honest about it ever since ME 1/ Origins. B. Its always been well written in context, to this point, and C. the rest of their stories are high quality and really resonate with me even outside of the politics so I am willing to overlook it because their stories have always had much more deeper universally relevant themes even beyond their specific social commentary. It is furthermore a conviction of mine that (pardon if I start sounding like a broken record on these things) if a nasty ol' pandering happens, and I smell it, my first thought is "oh they just did this to represent group XYZ". My second thought is "this is not adressed to me, but I guess if the recipients feel just a slight bit better about anything, I-fucking-RL, than the sacrifice I, intellectual connaisseur of art and consumer of entertainment just endured, shall be deemed worthwhile".
I love gaming and I'm not belittling the importance of immersion and escapism, but fuck. Priorities, people. It's the same kind of bizarre value system people sometimes have interacting with any type of service personnel (waiters, hotels) , "having paid any amount a regularly employed person can muster for any type of recreational enjoyment, does NOT entitle you to be THIS crazy".

It's the same kind of bizarre value system people sometimes have interacting with any type of service personnel (waiters, hotels) , "having paid any amount a regularly employed person can muster for any type of recreational enjoyment, does NOT entitle you to be THIS crazy". Now this may stray into dangerous territory again but it also depends on how you relate to your audience. Some companies and people hire creatives for these companies that belittle people and diminish different groups and actively make statements where they are deliberatley trying to piss certain groups off. BioWare does not do that. BioWare has not done that. I have even read interviews from around the time Inquisition came out where they go out of their way to not do that. So when they say they are trying to represent everyone and give everyone a seat at the table they genuinely mean it and have been pretty successful, imo. And the general principle and the way I look at it, being an amateur writer, is obviously my work has a targeted audience. My work will probably be more likely to be bought by X people rather then Y people...but my work does not deliberatley go out of its way to antagonize or exclude others either. If you are in group Y and you still find my stuff enjoyable then great, you get a new piece of fiction that entertained you and resonated with you, and I get more money in my pocket. That is what we should all be striving for...from a creatives perspective.

Remember when you didn't study or felt like having studied enough for a test and were all stressed out, only to find out someone else in your class didn't study enough and is just as scared, and for some reason, that made you feel relieved ? That's the baseline possibility of what can happen with that stuff, however trivial you may think it is. Representation and empathy DO things to people. I try not to intellectualize emotions, and not to assume who is more deserving of what. When in doubt just let everyone have theirs and relax, the universe hates a vacuum. Except right now when, being the silly little human I am, doing all of these things at once

I think empathy is one of the highest emotional callings and its one reason I spend so much time on Social Media and this forum to understand and debate with others to understand their viewpoints. Its something I feel like I often miss the mark on, not properly understanding or showing I understand people through my word choice, but empathy and understanding is at the end of the day how you move people.

I hope to be happily surprised but the video footage I have seen has me thinking that in terms of gameplay and story HZD and HZD FW may be superior. I truly hope to be proven wrong.

I want Veilguard to be a success and a rich story driven RPG with great combat and romances.

Only 12 hours!
To the HZD remaster.
I’ll probably dip in to check it out before Veilguard.
IF Guerrilla can stick the landing with Part III I’ll happily consider it one of my favourite trilogies alongside Mass Effect.
But will a replay, however good deflect me from a new Dragon Age game ? Nope.

For me this is one of those weird things being so invested in this series for so long and everything and seeing people who are super invested saying they don't see where the game is like the previous ones...and as my big saying is, one of my personally coined phrases 'expectation is the death of fandom.' But by and large this is the exact Dragon Age game i have been expecting all these years. Sure it would've been nice had they borrowed more from certain franchises but I had no reasonable expectation for them to do so. Other then really the more horror inspired elements I have seen this game looks like everything I love about this series and even given the horror, while I don't always resonate with horror, I have always found DA horror really well handled to this point so I am not THAT worried even about that aspect.

Sorry I have to go to bed but I truly hope your expectations or experiences of the game are truly what you want.

A remaster for a game that came out in 2017 is still crazy to me. I like Horizon Zero Dawn though, don't see a reason to drag down one game for another. What I've seen from Metaphor Refantazio hasn't exactly impressed me, in terms of writing and the whole 'our fantasy races are humans with animals ears' that Japanese rpgs love for some reason. But people like it so clearly it does something right, it's just not for me.

I could still end up being VERY wrong and even the execution of these points can be woefully mishandled (like ME 3) but based on what I know about DA, the series, and following other games structurally this looks like everything Bioware has been doing for awhile now.

Edit: what is with the quoting I meant to quote this part: "and as my big saying is, one of my personally coined phrases 'expectation is the death of fandom.'" So much this! I mean, it's good for people to wish for something, or hope XY happens, but if it doesn't, it's fine. It's not the end of the world. We're so many people in the world, and each writer wants to tell a specific tale. If it's not to my liking, that's ok! I just move on. If I like it, cool, our tastes/emotions/thought processes/whatever aligns and I can relate. The one thing that always drives me crazy is how some people say Bioware panders to crowd XY, completely disregarding that what said people expect from Bioware for themselves means Bioware would "pander" to them as well. But Bioware fulfilling THEIR wishes is important, fulfilling Bioware's own wishes or wishes to another crowd? Preposterous. I had to take a couple deep breaths in some parts of this forum It's always the same. People call themselves fan, but as soon as they dislike the material, the hate train goes choo choo. That is not being a fan to me. Being a fan to me means that even though it sometimes sucks, artists can move in any direction they want. If I don't like it that's too bad, but I hope they are happy doing it (I've had it multiple times in the music scene, and people are exactly as erratic as some are in here. It's nauseating.).

I tried to continue Life is strange: Double exposure yesterday, but couldn't because my mind is in Thedas. So I played couple of origins from DA:O and started Tresspasser with my latest Inquisitor 😅

Yeah, Imgur's change in how they handle uploading images & albums didn't exactly endear me either. Is there a decent 3rd option? It's been more than a decade since I last posted on the BSN. Thank you Hrungr - even after all this time you still post tons of developer updates and tweets and everything else. Even though I've not been actively posting here, I've been following your output here. I think the whole community has really appreciated your hard work.
I wasn't exactly very prolific on the old BSN, but I remember you in the old DAI days. Thanks again for your awesome contributions to the DA community. You made the decade-long wait a little bit easier...
Thank you!! And welcome back. Yeah, there are a number of us old timers still strolling around here, waiting for our lyrium-spiked jello cups. I'm having to run off to work in a few minutes, but hope you stick around and let us know your plans are for DA:V!

"But by and large this is the exact Dragon Age game i have been expecting all these years" But you haven't played it how do you know about its content and what to expect including horror? None of the reviews I have seen have had very much positive to say about the quality of it's "story" content. I honestly never thought Bioware games had an amazing story. They are usually a pretty cliche thing. But what's important is how that cliche is presented and experienced. On that front Bioware usually nails it.
Edit: For example HZD has a great story, but the execution in how we go through it is kinda lacking.

I tried to continue Life is strange: Double exposure yesterday, but couldn't because my mind is in Thedas. So I played couple of origins from DA:O and started Tresspasser with my latest Inquisitor 😅 I thought I'd just play through all of Life Is Strange Double Exposure in 2 days, but the game runs and looks so awful on my PC, that I got a refund instead. Hopefully it's better on PS5, but it will have to wait.
