A quick heads-up ahead of tomorrow.
Over the coming 27 hours we’re all basically waiting. So chat flow will be fairly eclectic in here.
Once launch arrives, any story discussion will firmly need to head off to the (currently locked) story threads or the ‘what did you do today in Veilguard’ thread.
Thanks very much.

We debate. We like. We dislike. But for anyone with post counts in the thousands. BioWare has a hold on us. This is my problem. The game clearly isn't meant for me. But Bioware has a hold on me and I can't look away. I keep on coming here, or to Veilguard threads in other places, keep on watching videos. And it's all pain at not being able to be Bioware'd again (at least not in the way I want to be).

"But by and large this is the exact Dragon Age game i have been expecting all these years" But you haven't played it how do you know about its content and what to expect including horror? None of the reviews I have seen have had very much positive to say about the quality of it's "story" content. I honestly never thought Bioware games had an amazing story. They are usually a pretty cliche thing. But what's important is how that cliche is presented and experienced. On that front Bioware usually nails it.
Edit: For example HZD has a great story, but the execution in how we go through it is kinda lacking.
Not to break this one off -then again why not, we're all just GOING THE F*CK NUTS HERE anyways after all- but what is an "amazing" story then?
Usually what we mean by that is, intellectually challenging and confronting us with familiar concepts in an unfamiliar way. And then, we feel things.
I'm just genuinely wondering right now how we make that seperation - between an amazing story that we like, and an... unamazing story that we like. Is it basically embarassment? Like how we wished we hadn't enjoyed that episode of Love Island as much as the latest Christopher Nolan movie?

I think saandrig meant by that an amazing story is a complete narrative that would make an impact, like The Last of Us games. In comparison, Bioware games are usually a patchwork of things that work, that don't, that are brilliant and that are just so-so. Even ME2 is filled with cliches. It's only considered a memorable classic because of the quality of some loyalty missions and the finale outweighing the less enjoyable parts like Jacob's mission for example. Inquisition is the weakest story of all the DA games because of how it was structured in the open world format that hampered the narrative flow.

I tried to continue Life is strange: Double exposure yesterday, but couldn't because my mind is in Thedas. So I played couple of origins from DA:O and started Tresspasser with my latest Inquisitor 😅 Me I've been trying to play SW:Outlaws and FO76 but when I play them I go and do some menial things because its that much how I cannot keep still here (and is not helping either). Its not that I dont like them, I really like them, but BioWare has me. None other developer has me so much...

Inquisition - the story around is quite short but its all the stuff done with the companions and the world while getting there. Same in ME1 and MEA which are my faves from ME series (and I guess the story in ME2 was paper thin, but it was the companion missions more in this one (not the companions themselves for me though)).

On an another note, tomorrow will also mark the first day on the road to DA5 😶🌫️
Providing DAV does well enough in sales I wonder if we will see a Dragon Age trilogy remaster in the coming year or so. I know Origins has a fucked code, etc etc, but one can dream.

I wish more people were embarrassed about liking Nolan.
An amazing story is when it's something I like, an unamazing story is when it's something I don't like. /s
The real answer is that there is no easy answer. John Gardner once described fiction as a "vivid and continuous dream." Bad or unsatisfying fiction pulls us out of the narrative, interrupts 'the dream' and forces us to think about outside forces. The nature of aesthetics and school of criticism often determines where these break points lie, since a neoplatonist is likely to champion didacticism, because Plato believed in usefulness over artistry. A Russian formalist would disagree, as form always triumphs over message. Obviously a laymen isn't thinking in those terms, but they'll often try to frame it through words like 'immersion' or clichés like 'show don't tell' to better capture their thoughts and feelings about media, because New Criticism is biggest modern school and bleeds into a lot of public consciousness whether they realize it or not, via concepts such as organic unity, close reading, and the idea that everyone is capable of criticism.

This could be true, but a lot of it comes down to the effort being worth the cost. Given we may not get another Bioware release for a significant time, and perhaps no DLC, it would make sense to release something. Perhaps they may come out with a remaster of Inquisition only? Though I can't see that being much of a draw.

Though I can't see that being much of a draw. I would like to see DAO remade with today's technology. Imagine how much better the battle at Ostagar would look. I doubt the game will be remade. Not sure about remastering DAI. I would buy it, if they did. Don't know what they would do with DA2. Remake? Remaster? I do agree it might be many years before another DA game is released.

Why wouldn't Inquisition be much of a draw lol? It's one of their most successful games ever.
I'd love a bundle of all three games, I doubt it happens though. And my dream is that DA2 gets the remake it deserves one day, to let its greatness truly shine through the rushed development time.
