No, it got canned because Awakening didn't sell. Big expansions were going out of style at the time, in favour of smaller story-based DLCs. The pendulum might be swinging back the other way, but we'll have to see if other developers take up the mantle of Shadow of the Erdtree. I don't expect Veilguard to get any further story content; Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor are probably the best points of comparison for recent single-player EA games and neither of them got any DLC even though they were successful. I would never say no to more content but the game doesn't need DLC at all tbh. DAI needed Trespasser at the very least. A Citadel-like DLC would be most appropriate, but that could be pushed as a content update in a smaller dose without big missions. Yeah, I wouldn't say no to a DA version of Citadel - especially if this does turn out to be the end of the series - but Veilguard doesn't NEED DLC to be complete like Inquisition needed an ending.

What it needs is like at least one post end game romance scene like the Inquisitor got on their balcony. So ya, I guess I agree with the Larian post end game party comparison.

What does this even mean. I'm guessing they mean the judges are afraid of the potential backlash of nominating Veilguard since a lot of people were determined to hate this game before it even came out because of silly culture war reasons. I don't think that holds a lot of water, personally. The Game Awards, like most media awards, are popularity contests and they usually nominate the titles that made the biggest splash among gamers that year. It's easy to get the wrong impression if one mostly hangs around here or the Dragon Age subreddit, but Veilguard didn't really cause much of a stir in the gaming scene. Based on buzz, my personal bet for who will win is Shadow of the Erdtree or Metaphor: Refantazio. Hopefully the latter, because Elden Ring already won and nominating an expansion pack is some BS. I am rooting for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth though. I really need a Final Fantasy to get at least one GOTY.

That's fine, but what I get annoyed by is people not giving it enough time and claiming it sucks just for what? Clout? They had no intention of buying it or caring about it in the first place. They just heard it from some YouTuber. That stuff is not helpful. I'm sure these people exist for every new game and I don't think you should care about them one bit Easier said than done, you can't go one video without a person saying that Veilguard is a woke disaster. Even here on this site it feels like it's illegal to express any sort of joy for the game.

I may be critical of this Game and I do not believe it would win GOTY and being nominated was always gonna be tight. But the categories of RPG and Action/Adventure having Dragon's Dogma 2 and Star Wars Outlaws, doesn't make sense to me. Dragon Age The Veilguard even as a standalone game is better to me then Dragon's Dogma 2 which I'd say as similar general issues Veilguard has but with even less RPG elements then Veilguard. While Veilguard isn't up to typical Dragon Age RP standards it's still more of a RPG then Dragon's Dogma 2. And I've seen nothing but negative things and bugs from Outlaws. Veilguard is a 100% more polished game and at the very least should've been nominated for those 2 awards over those two games. Hmm. Dragon's Dogma 2 is also a deeply flawed game for sure, but I think it is still pretty good at its main selling point, great combat mechanics. They still had their issues and other aspects of gameplay, including things like enemy verity not to mention story and roleplay mechanics. I do wonder though why do you think it has more roleplay mechanics. I'm sorry if my post came off that way but I actually think Veilguard is superior in the RPG aspect. Combat can be debatable but Dragon's Dogma pool of mobs is trash. I actually think Dragon Age The Veilguard does every aspect of a RPG better then Dragon's Dogma. And unfortunately I do feel like Veilguard kinda got snubbed out of more nominations

I know it's Rogue like, but I don't know shit about poker. I know it's on ps5 and it's under 20USD. I don't get it, it does poker right? Is there what? Real money betting? No real money betting As for what it's about: Balatro is only briefly a game of poker. Then Balatro becomes a game of cheating at poker by stacking your deck with extra cards, adding multipliers, upgrading hand scores, and giving yourself special powers. You can get quite far in Balatro by playing it as a game of cheating at poker, maybe even win a run, but really this too is a phase. Balatro's endgame is building and upgrading a machine to generate big numbers. At this point, cards are mere fuel. Their abstract power as poker cards doesn't matter, only whether this number is the right octane for this particular run's engine—and you'll have spent several Ante levels stacking the deck with the numbers you need, removing numbers you don't, gaining ways to dig for the good numbers, bedazzling those numbers with foil and seals, and so on.
www.rockpapershotgun.com/balatros-endless-mode-is-perfect-a-fun-victory-lap-before-you-extremely-die
Basically it really does what it does with Poker. Dragon Age Veilguard couldn't do what it does with being Dragon Age. Comparing different genres of games is always futile. That's why GOTYs or awards in general are really messed up.

I forced myself before, never felt it was worth it at the end. The opinions of "you need to play through the entire thing, then do it again, then deep dive the story with experts for 20 hours before your view is valid" are a joke. Honestly don't listen to these people, your time is way too valuable for this BS Is your time also that valuable for being upset? How come the last 5 pages were mostly like 5 people arguing back and forth? Where is everyone?? I know Hrungr's just finished with the game but it's been so quiet that the loudest skeptics only just echoed here.

I haven't been keeping up with this thread, and don't know the context of this question, but I think I can still answer, at least for myself. When I see a contentious echo building, or if I see the same members endlessly debating, I eventually bail on a thread. Endless, pointless debates are tedious, even when I'm simply scrolling past them. I don't say that to tell anyone how to spend their time here; I'm just answering the question.

Did you guys spontaneously scream in hype during the Siege and Hossberg climax encounters when the threat kept escalating or was it just me?
I never do that but somehow DAVG got it out of me not once but three times.

Right now the stakes seem truly unwinnable yet Rook just keeps pushing.

A lot of people try and make other people out to be angry to try and invalidate an argument. It doesn't apply. Why would you think I'm upset? That being said forums are for discussion. Not for positive discussion, not for negative discussion, but discussion. I come here to discuss games, I was discussing an aspect of gaming, using the forum for what it is meant to be used for. Also this is the first time I've appeared here in about a week. Lastly, the loudest skeptics are being echoed. That's not quite accurate. I noticed something right from the start. The people talking positively about the game were only a few. Most people kinda drifted away because the game didn't really inspire that passion in people. At one point I thought the skeptics thread had a much more varied group of people posting than anywhere else. Where is everyone? That's a good point. I left the forum a week ago to let people who wanted to talk about Dragon Age talk about Dragon Age. Don't ask me.

I think Veilguard should have been nominated for Best RPG over Dragon’s Dogma 2. Veilguard has its problems, but it isn’t loaded with microtransactions like Dragon’s Dogma 2, among other things.
I also don’t think an expansion should win Game of the Year. Better to have a separate expansion category. From those nominated for Game of the Year, I would like Metaphor to win.

I've expressed mine a few times before but I don't let myself be shaded over that for more than a few hours. One thing the skeptics and complaints has in common, it's always "My opinion is VALID!!!". I have respected their opinions but it gets frustrating when the same thing gets reiterated for many of their comments. That went on for days and even weeks, maybe months and years too?

Game's been out for 3 weeks now. I'm going to see how long you're going to keep using that excuse January 1st at least. Granted we'll see what happens after but based on how I usually play games and the apparent size of the game it'd take me that long usually if I didn't get my head start and I doubt most people even have the 'free time' I do. Plus the holidays. Also if you don't want to seem upset you might try reacting to a logical point with more then 'that's an excuse'.
