John Epler @eplerjc I feel like biomasika is going to start hiding when he sees me, because 95% of my conversations with him start with 'so, I had an idea, and it's a complicated one.'
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes Sorry, I cannot comment on that. Also, to be clear, we have only announced that we are making a game in the Dragon Age universe. We have neither announced nor confirmed a "Dragon Age 4".
Is he just being super careful here so that he can't get in trouble for announcing/confirming an unannounced game or should we start entertaining the notion that we're gonna get some weird side game?

Probably just being super careful.
Probably.
Edit: Unless they really are doing an 'Inquisition: Part Two', which I suppose wouldn't technically be DA4? I certainly wouldn't be opposed to such a thing.

As a public traded company, they likely cant disclose details on a product prior to shareholder knowledge. This means they likely dont have the finalized version of how they intend to market/release the product just yet. Mark Darrah happened to bring this up during one of the Anthem livestreams. It's a government mandated type of thing.

I’ve had that same thought reading some of what they’ve said. That being said, I’m not opposed to the idea at all. I’d love it. I’m too torn on the idea of finishing what inky started with someone else. BUT I’m just excited for more DA so IN THE LONG RUN, I don’t care either way lol just gimmie that fat story, bio daddies n mummies
does this chain mail have a forward link?

Likely a "revenue recognition" thing, as Mark Darrah has brought up in the past...per his pinned post on Twitter:
"So reasons why we may not answer your question:
3. The information would trigger a revenue recognition issue"
It could also be an expansion on the "Solas"-related issue for the Inquisitor that maybe sets up a future game.
Either way, they are likely careful anyway because any seemingly harmless, neutral, or throwaway comment is immediately out the next day as a PCGamer article and YouTube speculative video

Can confirm it is not just an issue for large, publicly traded companies, either.
Single shareholder companies also have revenue recognition worries when calculating provisional and final tax burdens. It doesn't matter on the same scale. But it matters.

I think it was pointed out multiple times lately that Patrick Weekes was always suuuuuuper careful when he's talking about anything related to future DA game(s). At this point we should be used to that
...I mean, we also had a taste of how scrutinized everything the devs say is and how quickly anything that could be misconstrued as related to next DA enters the rumor mill. Catgirls, anyone?
“The cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff. We are a way for the universe to know itself.”
Fair, but counterpoint: explicitly going out of your way to mention that what you're working on might not be the next main installment in your game series (when you never said or implied it was in the first place beyond responding to someone who made an assumption that it was and that assumption in turn not even being the main part of the question being responded to) after a teaser has been released directly referencing the anticipated main antagonist of said main installment and their being a extremely broad implicit understanding that this do be indeed be indicative of a main installment (deep inhalation) fosters it's own distinct kind of misunderstanding.
I can see the Youtube vids of "Patrick Weekes says not working main DA game. DATactics!?!?!??!?!" already.
Like it almost takes active effort to get to this conclusion if your starting point is "I want to imply as little as humanly possible."
But I'm probably overthinking this as is my wont. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes Just walked into an occupied meeting room half an hour early, like a champ. Hoping everyone thinks it’s because I’m really excited about project milestone planning and not because I can’t read my calendar.
Krista D. Ball @kristadb1 Well, they wouldn't have thought the calendar thing IF YOU DIDN'T TWEET IT WEEKES.
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes Pfft, like @eplerjc reads my Tweets.

Project milestone meeting, eh? Unless I’m mistaken that’s pretty early in development and yet other tweets and a teaser trailer suggest they are much farther along. Wonder what’s up.

In view of what he says in the Tweet this particular Project Milestone Meeting was probably not specific to DWR so that is why he mentions walking in on a meeting he wasn't even meant to be at.

Hmm, maybe. That leads to even more questions then, like what was the meeting for. The next Mass Effect game maybe?

The way the tweet worded, it could go either way. Either he appears to be excited about project milestone meetings because he shows up to them even though he isn't scheduled to, or he likes them so much he show up super early.

As far as I understand it, they call next stage or completion of the stage a milestone - naturally, this happens throughout the development, including at the end of it. So we have no idea where they are in development other than some stage was either completed or is getting started.

If I'm being honest, I wouldn't take milestone progress to be that meaningful. The Anthem devs often commented about having milestones completed prior to the game launching, and we can see how that's turning out. Best just to wait and see IMO.

I don't think anybody is assigning anything "meaningful" - we're just wondering aloud what the term itself means (and that term has been thrown around long before any recent game).

Liss @liss97067441 @bbattye hello! Can you tell me more about the vampires in lore? There's just a brief mention of them in a codex in game, something about demonic possession, but that's all I can find. TIA!
Brianne Battye @bbattye At present, I believe those references are all that's known. It's one of those mysterious things!
Madeleine Roux @authoroux I'm gonna do you a fuckin solid right now and say: Do not give any of your main characters a first or last name that ends in "s"
You can thank me later.
Cori Nicole @genevrael We tried I swear
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes Definitely not your villain.
“Corypheus’s assassins” is a phrase we used to utter in grim terror in the Writer Pit.
Madeleine Roux @authoroux OOF. Yeah, I mean, I've done it myself, but it's usually after I get too attached to a name I used in the manuscript. When I draft now I pay close attention to the way a name will look on the page. 😓
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes Least I don’t have to worry about ever having to do another game with a major character whose name starts or ends with an S!
John Epler @eplerjc Patrick we're gonna do a game about snake people.
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes Hey, I have a PLAN for Snake People if they ever come up.
I mean, it’s a terrible plan, but we made “dog loses his ball and is sad” into a decent plot, so we can probably clean this up, too.
Madeleine Roux @authoroux Every name ends in S. It's their culture.
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes I still owe my narrator drinks for the audio version of the novel that included Ululenia saying lines to Irrethelathliann.
Madeleine Roux @authoroux I would LOVE to see the pronunciation guide you whipped up for that 😂😂
That's a step I always forget.
Me: Cool cool cool let's put ancient dead languages in this book ~six months later~ Editor: Your audiobook narrator needs to know how to say this stuff Me: . . . . Fuck.
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes When she hit “Ululenia”, @genevrael said, “So I assume there will never be an audio version,” and I laughed and then stopped in slowly dawning horror.
(And it’s EER eth ell LATH lee uh LAN, like a waltz! (This explanation makes sense to me and very few others.))
Cori Nicole @genevrael I feel this was my crowning moment as an editor.
John Epler @eplerjc The most effective threat I can deploy in my job is to saddle someone's character with the most stereotypical Canadian accent I can find.
c.r. scannell @queencaitt "I suspect you have questions, eh?"
John Epler @eplerjc 'Oh, ya bout to get yourself a big ol' donnybrook, eh?'
I mean ultimately that's a threat I am entirely reliant on @cablivingstone to follow through on, but that's why I'm always nice. For the day I need to make good on it.
