Emily (aka Domino) Taylor pentapod This pile of books on my co-worker’s desk explains a lot about #gamedev TBH 😂 The Prince by Niccolò Machiavelli: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Prince"The Prince is sometimes claimed to be one of the first works of modern philosophy, especially modern political philosophy, in which the "effectual" truth is taken to be more important than any abstract ideal. It is also notable for being in direct conflict with the dominant Catholic and scholastic doctrines of the time, particularly those concerning politics and ethics." "The descriptions within The Prince have the general theme of accepting that the aims of princes – such as glory and survival – can justify the use of immoral means to achieve those ends: He who neglects what is done for what ought to be done, sooner effects his ruin than his preservation." Could be for Solas. Sure, but it works for anyone/anything ruthless. Tevinter, for instance. Orzammar.

No, they don't. And sure I don't need to like all the companions, but it would be nice to have at least one Dragon Age game where there are at least as many I like as dislike. Having three already in the dislike to hate camp does not bode well for that. And whose fault is that? If you set your standards sky high and also set them extremely narrowly so that the slightest deviation from a long list of must haves is a total failure and ruins everything for you, disappointment should be your constant companion. You should be used to it by now.

Brianne Battye @bbattye Curious: Do you ever speak out loud to the player character while playing games (i.e. the one you control, not NPCs)?

Usually in regard to combat, when they don't do what I want. I can't count the number of times I yelled at Shepard for sticking to a damn wall when I was trying to run instead.

Brianne Battye @bbattyeCurious: Do you ever speak out loud to the player character while playing games (i.e. the one you control, not NPCs)? Only when the game didn't do what I wanted it to do. "I told you to fight THAT Terror, not THIS one!" I talk to myself a lot more, like "Fuck me!" and "Oh no you didn't!", the latter usually in response to something Dorian said or did. And sometimes, in response to Cassandra. Her zingers may not be as good as Dorian's, but they are much more unexpected.

Well, shit, it is a fox, and not a particularly long-nosed wolf. Good to know.

sorry more people will never see it... What is this supposed to mean, especially since people have been seeing it for years now, since it was first twitted about. And if it's not going to be seen more now, what is the purpose of bringing it up again?

Interesting. Perhaps it's related to the identity of the next protagonist? The fox is often depicted as a sly and cunning creature. Which we'll need if we hope to outwit the Dread Wolf.

And if it's not going to be seen more now, what is the purpose of bringing it up again? It's internal stuff with probably very early drafts and concepts that we are never meant to see, aside from being teased by cover and a few pages... As for what the purpose of bringing it now... clearly it's another round of teasing

I think that they mean it in a sense that this is supposed to be a wolf that looks more like a fox by mistake, lol. Also - given that it's a head in flames many people can't help but to think about Firefox I'm fairly sure the logo underwent a lot of iterations up until this point, so - at the very least - it won't bring to mind things that it isn't meant to represent.

Hey, all, I think you might be reading too much into this... They're joking around so the question about why it looks like a fox is probably just part of the joke. I wouldn't take it as confirmation that it's definitely meant to be a fox. They like to tease.

But what if it isn't? Besides, there's not much else to talk about at the moment.

Ok, just didn't want anyone to be angry at or disappointed in the devs if it turns out to not be a fox. (Because that's something that DA fans do, too... )

I would guess the same. Especially when wolf icons on the internet (see below) devoid of fur and colour can sometimes look ... foxish for starters, and Bioware's image is tiny which can muddy things further. Below is a wolf icon from the internet, it really doesn't look THAT much different. But hey, if it's a fox then cool. I like foxes Wolf image from internet:

At this early stage, assume everything they say is a joke/tease. Not every tweet is going to have a smiley to connote tongue-in-cheek.

You have to watch the whole clip, the book is opened to the "EA eyes only" page. In other words, it's good work, but being secret background stuff intended for people working on the game, most people, meaning fans and players of the game, will never know its contents. And the purpose is more teasing, of course. And who the heck is this Tyler Lee guy? From context, he must do some kind of video game writing or scenario planning. His twitter feed is mostly hockey and retweets about random stuff, so no clues there really.

What contribution would a GUI artist have to a "red book" bible about a future game? Early mock-ups per the overall theming of the game? Seems a weird thing to print in a book! Ah, wait a minute! He did talk about accessibility in his Twitter feed. So maybe he wrote the Accessibility section of the bible. That would make sense, since that is a cross-cutting requirement that potentially touches everything, including storytelling. If you write a climactic scene that relies on some music or roaring dragon to make it's point, you're creating a problem for the hearing impaired.
