Yeah, if you think Warden reactivity is disappointing I don't think you're going to like the others. It's got way more dialogue options and reactivity than Lord of Fortune, at least, and judging from what hear more than the other options as well.
(For what it's worth I got what I wanted out of LoF and I'm really enjoying Warden so far but if you want more out of the factions system than what the Grey Warden has ... yeah, no.)
From what i read, Mourn Watch has the best reactivity. My first Rook is a Warden and was very happy of reactivity. Second Crow and Third Lord, was ok with them. Now my fourth is a Mourn Watcher and this is just... Wow!!!

Keen to see it at some point and I'd be surprised if it has more reactivity than Warden Warden Rook has sooo many mentions, it was cool to see. Often when Blight stuff is happening there's unique lines to Warden, also during banter, Wardens get some unique dialogue from time to time. Someone should start doing lists Maybe I'll open a thread about it once I'm home with a few examples. If Mourn Watch has more, that will be interesting.

Granted it might not be too much of a reactivity but given how connected that it allows my Rook to be for Minrathous really lines up with the RP quite nicely.

Lastly, the loudest skeptics are being echoed. That's not quite accurate. I noticed something right from the start. The people talking positively about the game were only a few. Most people kinda drifted away because the game didn't really inspire that passion in people. At one point I thought the skeptics thread had a much more varied group of people posting than anywhere else. The game got mix reviews from the most people. Not really bad not really good. So the loudest positive and negative are bias.

Yeah the odd ones out for me are likely going to be the Veil Rangers unfortunatley.. And not unFORTUNatley the LoF. I just don't vibe with them at all and I have no interest in playing one. Mourn Watcher looks surprisingly cool and even more so given how much I adore Emmrich so far. Antivan Crow because I have wanted to be one for awhile. Grey Warden because the story seems built for one. Shadow Dragon cause I've wanted to be a Tevene since Origins.

I'm confused. According to many wise youtubers, BW/EA paid for the high review scores, why they didn't pay now for goty? Funny how EA's marketing department forgot to pay for good reviews at all for both Andromeda and Anthem's launches. Seriously though; People can like or dislike games, that's all fine, but when YouTubers resort to brainless conspiracy theories (repeatedly debunked) it reaches comedy levels. As for The Game Awards, perhaps Veilguard was just too polarising to get a nom, which after all is reached by consensus. I could see Veilguard getting some love from some other media outlets (around 300 outlets hand out GOTY, TGA is just the biggest). I could see it picking up a few over the season. Right now, I don't see an obvious overall GOTY 2024.

No, it got canned because Awakening didn't sell. Big expansions were going out of style at the time, in favour of smaller story-based DLCs. The pendulum might be swinging back the other way, but we'll have to see if other developers take up the mantle of Shadow of the Erdtree. I don't expect Veilguard to get any further story content; Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor are probably the best points of comparison for recent single-player EA games and neither of them got any DLC even though they were successful. I would never say no to more content but the game doesn't need DLC at all tbh. DAI needed Trespasser at the very least. A Citadel-like DLC would be most appropriate, but that could be pushed as a content update in a smaller dose without big missions. I don' tthink DAi needed Trespasse ri twas a nic eaddition buu tdidn' tnecessarily need it but they di dneed to explain who Solas was in order to set up Veilguard. But yeah I've jus tfinished m yfirs tplaythrou ghon Xbox and tha twas one hec kof an ending. I loved the bi twher eRook a tthe end sol dSolas a li eby giving him a fake magical dagger then using him to tie his life force to the Veil. Very clever Rook an dEmmerich for coming up wit hthe idea. I am goin gt otake a step bac kfor now to absorb wha happened and then dive int om yPC playthrough tomorrow. As I'm thimnking I might jus tchill out wi thdsom eFifa fo rthe rest of toda ya tleast.

Warden Rook had pretty substantial reactivity. Any time Darkspawn, Wardens, or the Deep Roads were involved there was at least some line delivery referencing Rook's past. Davrin's entire dialogue tree is different if you're a Warden though that applies to other companions and their factions too I imagine. The Warden sections are also some of the best in the game (Weisshaupt, Davrin's missions, Hossberg, First Warden interactions, a lot of the main story) so it double dips in feeling of belonging to something grand. Saying there's not enough reactivity is frankly absurd. The game might as well be a love letter to Warden fans. It couldn't get any better than this. Well I would have liked to see Weisshaupt pre-destruction but I suppose that's part of the whole drama of being a Warden.

Is your time also that valuable for being upset? How come the last 5 pages were mostly like 5 people arguing back and forth? Where is everyone?? I know Hrungr's just finished with the game but it's been so quiet that the loudest skeptics only just echoed here. Well I'm replaying the game, among other things Yeah I've jus tfinished m yfirs tplaythrough so I'm taking a step back t oabsorb what happened but I am planning on diving in again to pla yon PC probabl ytomorrow as Iwantt ochill ou tfor toda yan dabsorb wha thappened. Saying there's not enough reactivity is frankly absurd. The game might as well be a love letter to Warden fans. It couldn't get any better than this. Yeah. You even get to do something that the Origins Warden couldn't - tell the player in advance if there are darkspawn around! (Which is usually comically obvious, but it's nice to see the player character actually USE that superpower, finally.)
Also loved that Rook gets five different options for what to tell Davrin about what they were thinking during their Joining and both 'are you people insane, you want me to drink what?!' and 'I though this was ale?' are both included.

Bio management is to blame, imo, for pushing in-your-face divisive social issues and sub-par writing (at times) & banter design which does not help in the GOTY selection.
For example: During some quests where Rook has to follow a companion, the banter is triggered but the companion is about 200 paces ahead of me and the banter volume is such as if we were side by side. Immersion breaking you say??? Well, for me it is.... it just bothers me. DAO and DA2 did not suffer this flaw.

I kind of wondered about the purpose of this thread, given that the game had released and all the action had moved into the specific discussion threads. The question regarding, "Where is everyone?" seems to have revived this thread. 😄

Just rolled credits on Veilguard. No spoilers, obviously, but you know what? For something I waited ten whole years for, I'm pretty damn satisfied. I get why some aren't keen, I've seen the game's issues firsthand and I understand why they're dealbreakers for some, but sitting here with the credits rolling all I can really think at the moment is that taken as a whole, I really love this game, and I'm glad it exists. Yea hI'v ejus tfinished m yfirs trun and I'm happ ywit hwhat I got. It's not quiet theending I imagined itto b ebu ti tdefinitely felt emotional. Especially Varric's death at the end given he's always been one of my favourite DA characters. Admittedly I think he was only there for fanservice this time but still. But seeing him and Harding die definitely hurt.

Yes, the quests are relevant to the story but some in a tangential fashion. I've concluded ( right or wrong ) that these quests were written by newbie writers. There weren't any new writers on Veilguard, everyone in the Writer's Pit had worked on previous BioWare games. The closest was John Dombrow who was previously on Mass Effect, and I'm not sure we should count the guy who was the lead on the Citadel DLC as any kind of newb. I guess you could add John Epler, but he's been on the game in other rolls since Origins before becoming Creative Director and Bellara's lead.
Which doesn't mean anyone has to like the side quests, of course! But Veilguard was written substantially by the same people as previous Dragon Age games, with the addition of Dombrow. Mary Kirby and Sheryl Chee had been there since Origins and Lukas Kristjanson had been around since the Baldur's Gate days, while Trick Weekes, Sylvia Feketekuty and Brianne Batye all came aboard with Inquisition and Courtney Woods with The Descent.

Rook gets a lot of opportunities to share a Watcher's perspective during conversations, too. Between playing a Watcher and a Mage, I felt like I generally had some additional dialogue options. I'm playing a Qunari Grey Warden Warrior, now. I don't really expect a lot from species or class, but the Warden will probably have a lot of ambient dialogue and additional conversational options. Plus, the relationship with Davrin and the Warden NPCs will be different. Antoine and Evka are part of Warden Rook's background, for instance, and I expect the cuddly First Warden will have opinions. If I can get a few, "You're a Qunari?" reactions and some unique interactions with Taash, I'll be content with the species reactivity. Warrior should have lots of dialogue options to assess enemies, tactics, etc... but probably won't. I'm sure I got the best of that with the Mage.

Well, i didn't play as Warden or Mourn Watch, so i can't compare them and say for sure, but i saw people saying that they loved playing as Mourn Watch because of reactivity. But maybe they specifically meant reactivity with Emmrich and Necropolis. Theoretically Warden Rook should have more chances for unique dialogue, considering what the main story is about. Either way it's worth replaying that way for me as it sounds really good, already found a few different things in my 2nd playthrough I'm still on my first playtrough, but yeah, if i ever replay DAVe, then i will choose Warden or Mourn Watch. Veil Jumpers is a disappointment for me in terms of reactivity, at least for now. Lords of Fortune feel like an afterthought. And i don't care about Shadow Dragons or Crows, so i have no interest to play as them.
