You can fix it with a mod. John Epler couldn't do it with all the resources of EA, Bioware and direct knowledge and access to the source code of the game. But some internet rando made a mod to do it for him. Is this correct? Key phrase coming in..... FOR FREE. You do know of these pesky things devs have to worry about like wages, tool costs, and a budget... don’t you? I wouldn't choose this hill to die on, personally. The mod in question just zooms in the camera to be closer than the vanilla camera does when you are in a non-cinematic convo. Its just a tweak to a numerical value, not a new cinematic tool. And yet it does vastly improve the feel of the side convos.
I imagine it only took a few hours at most once the modder knew what code to change, which is something the devs would know already. I think the small change the mod does falls less into the category of "things that we didn't have enough money for" and more "things the devs didn't get around to, considered and rejected, or didn't even think of in the first place". Like the keybind for walking or the ability to zoom out the tac cam more, back when the game first launched.

The guy found a way to add content in a way you didn’t like The guy found a barely working way to implement a basic feature into an RPG, that basically revolves around said feature, while other studios have moved long past such problems. Unlike what other people like to say or think, Bioware does not operate in a vacuum. I can make excuses about myself, how something was the best available option to me at the time, but someone else might have done a better job, or in hindsight, I might have missed something. I do not operate in a vacuum. John Epler does not operate in a vacuum, Bioware does not operate in a vacuum. Every product that comes out will be criticized and compared with other products, because the market is literally flooded with them. If the way Epler implemented his solution came under criticism, hence his defense of his choice, then obviously, by the industry's standard, they were not enough. It also sets a precedent that technical issues will be present in future titles, but because they are the best option at the time, Bioware should not be held accountable for the technical state of their game. So how about we skip the reviewing process, give the game a 10/10 preemptively and let me write them a check fr $60. Hell, they don't even need to release the game. Let's pretend it's already out and I had the best time ever playing it. .... you complete and willing obtuseness is no longer worth it. It’s quite clear you are only here to argue against Bioware no matter what. If you can't argue for something, then it is quite clear that there is no defense to be made.

By that logic the Earth is flat simple because people who know it's not eventually stop arguing with the idiots who think it is because there's no point and they have better things to do.

In which case, the argument is worth having.

Tweets?Mike Laidlaw @mike_LaidlawSeeing DAII on Steam's top seller list in 2020 is pretty fuckin' surreal for me, let me tell you. It was a flawed game, but the team worked -so- hard to make it come to life in the limited time we had, so I'm always proud to have been a part of it. Patrick Weekes @patrickweekesI feel like that game could really be something.

You know... I only have the disc version version of all DA PC titles. I should probably go buy my 6th copy of Origins, my fourth of DA2, and my fourth of Inquisition. O and the DLC.... maybe I’ll single handedly get Weekes his Dragon Age musical at this rate.
No. I do not gave an addiction! Shoo!

How long did it take them to add a few more pyjamas to the game just because they had to check each outfit with every cutscene to see if they look OK there? I'm not sure if the tweak is as simple as you make it to be.

Connor Martyn @connor_martyn 9 Months? For real? [To build DA2]
John Ebenger @ebengerjohn Basically. There were some people on it longer than that, but the bulk of production was around that time frame iirc.
Connor Martyn @connor_martyn This sounds like a mad crunch for 9 months...? Surely that amount of time doesn't include conception/prototyping and pre-prod?
Tyler Lee @tylerd_lee The way I remember it, we were leaving for our Christmas break, the project was announced to the team. (At this point it was a standalone expansion) Writing was going to work over the break and would tell us the story when we got back. We shipped March the following year.
John Ebenger @ebengerjohn Yeah, I finished Mass 2 DLC in Sept. or Oct. and moved up to DA for the final 6 months there. Things had definitely been built at the point, but the bulk of the work was still to be done.
Mr.Wallace's right arm @jaayytteeezzzay I feel like Dragon Age: Exodus would have been a much better title. Still a great game regardless.
John Ebenger @ebengerjohn Yeah, a lot of us felt that way, but sometimes brands gotta brand.
Milly #blm @foxesforsale Still my favourite Dragon Age game. Felt like I was pivotal in a history changing moment. DA1 felt epic but contained, DA2 felt redefining for Thedas. Loved it, flaws and all.
John Ebenger @ebengerjohn Yup, I loved a lot of things about this game, broke some fresh ground as far as the scope of a DA story.

It's not happening to me but saw a report of this According to the Steam store page: Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: EA on-line activation and Origin client software installation and background use required. No idea about any crashes though.

I'm not sure if the tweak is as simple as you make it to be. Usually, most game engines have an easy to pull compiler that compiles the code to accommodate the OS in question, like PS4's, Windows etc. From there, it would be about going back and editing the values, should the algorithm be wonky or janky or just not "good enough" a few times, by, basically, "eye-balling" it. And this would have taken maybe a few tries and it could be done on a spare machine Bioware would keep around, for the purpose of testing. At least, I assume Bioware would test their games. And while the compiler ran, the developer could be occupied doing other things. Unless Frostbite is that hard to work with, that even thinking of compiling turns the entire Bioware studio into a groanfest. In which case, dump Frostbite. No game engine is worth that.
