I hope not. How can they not even have that down enough to answer?
I'm sure they already have those answers, they just don't want to give them to us yet. And won't until they're ready to start the full marketing process and actually announce the game properly.
TBF given what we've heard about the development of Andromeda and Anthem I would that isn't a certainty.
I just realized the scale of this shot, so it doesn't seem likely it'll has anything to do with idols or human-sized statues. If you look at the size of the stairs, those lyrium formations must be huge.
Hunger, please could you transfer the images to a new thread called "DA4 Reveals discussion (spoilers)" so we can talk about them openly without risking upsetting people who don't want to know. I know my mind is buzzing right now.
EDIT: Sorry I realise you've already done this (might be worth adding the 'Spoilers' to the title though)

BayconByte @bayconbyte I'm sure I'm not the first to ask. But have BioWare ever considered making a DA strategy game? I firmly believe the world and lore would make for a great Grand Strategy Game. A great example would be @cagames 's recent Total War games in the Warhammer universe.
Mark Darrah @biomarkdarrah One of my most viral tweets ever was a poll by me asking about different styles of strategy game and the DA franchise.
Gabe Heiland @norseartemis As some here have learned, my job is data and giving the team feedback on what the people crave. So I feel like I should find out, do you want to date the tree?
1. Yes, the tree is hot! 2. If it has a tragic past 3. Tree & I are just friends 4. Rivalmance only
Some days, it’s so unfortunate that I don’t have a Twitter account. Just, deeply, deeply unfortunate.

I'd actually love to see a Dragon Age mod for Crusader Kings 2. So much potential for insanity.

I am not normally one to rant but I think this has broken me, I am sick of waiting for DA4 and I am not even sure now if I will even play it when it does release, just out of sheer annoyance at the length of time. This is not a flippant statement like many others on this site I have put thousands of hours into DA games and was incredibly invested in the story and characters.
It's now been almost 6 years since DAI released (a game I played solidly for almost two years (1600hrs of gameplay IIRC) and it will be potentially another 2 years before they release DA4 and all they can do is tease that an announcement is coming. And then they say/announce nothing and give only what is three "possible" images of a DA game to tease it.
How can a company that released 3 ME games between 2007 and 2012 and 3 DA games between 2009 and 2014 now only have Anthem and MEA as releases over the past 6 years. Even MEA is now 3 years old should and should be due to get a sequel if there is even one contemplated but who would know as they communicate nothing and just expect customers to faithfully wait. It's a terrible indictment on Bioware and their communication strategy not to mention their project management skills.
It's also a terrible way to treat your customers and it isn't doing anything for their reputation or their income stream.
I understand your frustration, and - yeah - I can understand how someone who was invested in the franchise is upset with how long they've had to wait. Even I'm in a skeptical mindset behind DA4, though that's primarily because of BioWare's performance in its last two releases. One thing I will say, however, is that marketing a game can be just a tricky as developing the game itself. You take a lot of risks depending on the time in which you announce the game, and you also have to properly set expectations. Announce too early, people start to go wild with expectations, and constantly demand more and more information. Announce too soon, and you potentially run the risk of not allotting yourself enough time to showcase the game; which could affect sales.
A good contrast to what you're asking is what's currently going on with CDPR and Cyberpunk 2077. I'm not bringing it up to hate on the studio, or the game. I actually hope it turns out well. However, the game was first announced 7 years ago, and was originally supposed to released in April of this year. We got some gameplay (some elements probably scripted) snippets, but last year we get news that the games release would need to be delayed till September. We've only gotten a few extra details on that game, and now - this week - we learn that the game will be delayed once again; upsetting some fans.
All I'm saying is that, there are issues that come with announcing your game when you're launch window is pretty aqueous; due to developmental concerns.

Hopefully they will not do a similar tease at next year's EA Play ... unless Bioware is ready to officially announce the game to shareholders. Next EA Play (June 2021) seems too early to officially announce and keep the hype train going for over a year ... particularly if the game needs to be further delayed (as most games are).

Yeah I agree with what you are saying except that with Cyberpunk (which I haven't followed closely) they seem to at least be talking about the game openly and where they are at with it and have continuously said it'll be ready when it's ready. We have heard almost nothing from Bioware other than a while back that it was in development. Then a couple of teasers that have really explained or said nothing and that's it.

THERE IN THE DEPTHS OF THE EARTH THEY DWELLED, SPREADING THEIR TAINT AS A PLAGUE, GROWING IN NUMBER UNTIL THEY WERE A MULTITUDE. AND TOGETHER THEY SEARCHED EVER DEEPER UNTIL THEY FOUND THEIR PRIZE, THEIR GOD, THEIR BETRAYER.
AND DOWN THEY FLED INTO DARKNESS AND DESPAIR.

Agree. Bioware has been very stingy on releasing DA4 info.

This is the only game CDPR has in development and their last game was released in 2015. In this time Bioware has released - with difficulty, true, but still - two games, including a game of new type for them. And we know they work on DA4, while also potentially working on something ME related, and still work on Anthem as well as update for SWTOR.
In other words - it's comparing apples to oranges a bit.

lol @ including SWTOR! How many people do they have on that?
I was assuming Bioware had more completed for DA4 but was just being stingy about showing it. You think that what we got was all they had to show?
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes Hey, folx! (I am REALLY not yet comfortable doing that with the x, but I’m working on it.)
I have some new followers, and we are entering the season where people expect announcements and stuff, so let’s talk about what interactions are and aren’t acceptable for me.
I will sometimes answer questions about past games. It’s more likely if it’s content I worked on personally. It’s less likely if you come in angry.
If I tell you I can’t answer, you continuing to press or asking why not or otherwise not respecting my boundaries is not okay.
I will rarely be able to answer questions about the game we are working on now. If that information hasn’t already come out, it is not mine to share. Asking will not make me angry, but again, if I say I cannot answer, that is a boundary I am setting.
If you come in with a concern, complaint, or request, and act in good faith, I will try to do the same. My ability to address your concern may be limited. I support the Writing team. I am not in charge of the game. Also I may not agree with you. But I will listen.
(I will not attack my coworkers, however, so if you come in demanding that I explain a combat mechanic, I am never going to say, “You’re right, that’s bad. Those combat guys are stupid.”
Asking me to do that is just going to leave both of us frustrated.)
If you act in bad faith, I will most likely block you. This includes coming in with abuse against me or my coworkers, telling me how bad our games are, or sea-lioning.
Here is an example. (Handle removed. I do not want them bothered.)
Recently, someone sent me this after an event where we did not show a trailer. This is not a friend. I do not know this person. Perhaps they were making a joke. That is not the tone I got.
Here is another example: (again, name removed, leave them alone)
I replied to a mutual and noted I had blocked someone. A third party questioned whether I should have done so. “It’s normal to be disappointed.” I didn’t block them for being disappointed. I blocked for rudeness.
And when it became clear that no explanation would satisfy this person, and that they were accusing me of, and judging me for, positions I did not hold, I eventually, after multiple replies, blocked this person as well.
Finally, here is a third example: someone (as before, leave them alone) attempting to get me disciplined or fired for liking a funny tweet about how some of our fans are dramatic or thirsty.
I love Dragon Age fans’ enthusiasm and humor. Sometimes I can answer questions or speak to narrative issues.
I ask you to respect the boundaries I have in place and understand that I get a lot of incoming tweets, so if someone doesn’t respect me, I block for my own protection.
I look forward to someday being able to show more of what the amazing team I am part of is working on.
Until then, please assume I am as frustrated as you are that we have not yet shared more, and that when we DO announce something, I will not be subtle about letting you know.
(No, I still don’t like “folx”. But it’s inclusive, so I’m gonna stick with it.) /fin
PS: People are saying, “I’m sorry you get so much of this.”
There is really very little! I mostly get jokes, fan art, and notes about how I made people sad with Solas. All of those are great!
But every so often we get a spike of new people, so I have to set boundaries again.

I figure they have a lot more in various stages of production, but this might be their first fully polished area visually.

Karin (West) Weekes @karinweekes Hi, new awesome people who are following after some new BioWare art was released at EAPlay! We are always excited to talk about our work, and are excited if YOU are excited! Info on upcoming games is planned at a very high level, and we all work together to follow those plans.
Patrick is my partner, and I am lucky to be friendly with my awesome colleagues; but asking me “Patrick/another BioWare dev blocked me, why? Can you ask them?” also crosses my boundaries. However, I WILL cheerfully squee with you about how great Star Wars: Squadrons looks!
And whether we’re part of a great, enthusiastic fandom or work for a big game company (or both!), we’re all still individual people, yeah? Times are weird right now, so let’s try to be patient with each other.
