You mean a fixed character with one background, one race, two genders and one VA for each, instead of VAs that have to be subtler so they can more-or-less accommodate the wealth of available roleplaying options? He has a timid weak voice. It is what it is.

A very good (and thorough!) breakdown. What do you mean as regards the live-service elements? colfoley why sketch? would put money on companion LoF being more likely than LoF background for new PC. Like both ideas though. the whole faction = the 'I just think it's neat' meme. Pet favorite background for a new PC would be a Tevene praesumptor or gladiator, but it's the idlest of unlikely daydreams.

You see me as a god right, Lavellan? You’d kneel before me? Fen'Harel is the trickster god, right? I kinda want the hard numbers on crossover between Loki and Solas fangirls, honestly. I have a feeling the percentage is high.**
John Epler @eplerjcThe Shred Wolf. Cori Nicole @genevraelJEPLER I must know more.... You've seen his abs in that qunari rope armor, Dani, I know you have. You've been to the Solas thread. lol
** To be clear, I'm not knocking it. I am one of those fangirls. Literally IM'd my friend when I found out he was the Dread Wolf and was like "I JUST ROMANCED LOKI!"

The Lords of Fortune seem more like a background for a party member, not the main character. I agree. I also feel like factions mentioned in TN will be fighting for our Protagonist’s attention, as our protagonist will obviously be critical in the fight to stop The Wolf. There’s nothing about the LoF that pulls me in and I think it has to do with how the protag being a LoF just doesn’t seem necessary for the story? Like, being a Warden and part of the Inquisition was necessary since there wasn’t really any other route to take that made sense story wise - I can’t say the same for LoF. Who’s to say we can’t be an independent agent, working for whoever we want to work with? Of course, we know little about them, so that day may still come. Maybe we’ll see more of them in the comics? With their description, however, I can’t lie that they *do* seem to be created for gameplay purposes, specifically for DA4’s style, but their dynamics could work just as well for a separate multiplayer component. Time will tell!

Boring VA. No real memorable lines. Just a great pile of meh. Yes, there's story potential as I stated. But in practise do I want that McBoring O' Boring coming back? I'm not sure. I've only played the two Brits but really strongly disagree with you. Probably the third best RPG protagonist/ bio one. I definitely recommend playing with Sumalee as the voice. She's my favorite of the two female VAs and might be my favorite overall.

John Epler @eplerjcI got to reference this in a meeting today and I feel my career has peaked. John Epler @eplerjcThe Shred Wolf. Cori Nicole @genevraelJEPLER Btw. wasn’t SWOLas a thing a few years back? I guess it means they continue their plans (for well-built Solas???)

I think playing as a Lord of Fortune would also be a tidy way to address player concerns of "these quests don't make sense for someone as important as the Inquisitor to do!" A lot of those people contrast the side quests in DAI with those in TW3. I have played both games and I think the reason why the side quests in TW3 feel like they make sense is because... although they're fetch quests just like in DAI (go kill this thing for me; I'll give you gold/herbs/whatever), Geralt is a monster hunter so it makes sense for him to do those fetch quests. It makes less sense for the leader of a powerful organization who has people who can do that stuff.
But, since the Lords of Fortune take jobs in a sort of hybridized Indiana Jones / mercenary sort of way, side quests similar to those in DAI and TW3 could feel a lot more natural for a LOF PC to do, as they did for Geralt in TW3.

Well, that didn't take long. The information on the wiki suggests they're almost specifically tailored for the background of a video game protagonist. Wonder how that happened...

What do you mean as regards the live-service elements? Just that being a LoF, the LS elements would likely involve Contracts (monster hunting, heists, etc.). This might lean into having some kind of "Reputation" mechanic.

Also this; {The Lords of Fortune are known for their colorful outfits, sashes, capes, belts, scarves, and charms, and for wearing their treasure, though such display is reserved to those Lords of Fortune that survive more than a year or two.[2]
Some Lords of Fortune specialize in disguises and changing accents.} from the wiki...sounds like a perfect framework for an ingame vanity store.

So on the whole LoF thing, I just described them to my wife as 'Basically Indiana Jones combined with a Witcher without the magic'...and then it occurred to me did we meet any mage LoFs in TVN? I forget but if the answer is no then that is probably the biggest argument about them not being the universal background for the protagonist.

The Lords of Fortune seem more like a background for a party member, not the main character. Like I said earlier, I think there’s very a good chance of a LoF party member - specifically, a roguish party member - but not the main background of the protagonist. They just seem like treasure hunters, not “save the world” types. Remember, we’re literally up against a guy who can petrify anyone he sees or touches, who can kill anyone in their sleep and who commands a small army of spirits and elves. (Oh, and he’s likely got that fucking idol too.) Some pretty powerful magic will be needed to counter Solas; flashy scarves aren’t going to do the trick. That’s like sending Lara Croft to fight Thanos. As for them being mentioned frequently in Tevinter Nights, I’ll note that the Antivan Crows and Mortalitasi appear in nearly as many stories. (I think there’s a good chance of a Mortalitasi party member too.) So on the whole LoF thing, I just described them to my wife as 'Basically Indiana Jones combined with a Witcher without the magic'...and then it occurred to me did we meet any mage LoFs in TVN? Well he's the one I would be taking with me through to DA4 so he seems the most relevant. For what it's worth the American male voice is bad too. The Inquisitor always sounds like he's trying to tell the cashier at Wendys that they've got his order wrong, which he's actually quite annoyed about, but he doesn't want to sound rude.

Like I said earlier, I think there’s very a good chance of a LoF party member - specifically, a roguish party member - but not the main background of the protagonist. (I think there’s a good chance of a Mortalitasi party member too.) Yeah, LoF isn't save the world type of person, but the Inquisitor is... The powerful magic needed to fight Solas will not come from a protagonist anyway (nobody posses that kind of magic besides ancient Elvhen), it'll probably come from a discovery made by the protagonist - a weapon or a relic (which fits so well with them being treasure hunters), and could be used by the Inquisitor to defeat Solas. I personally think not playing the chosen one once in a while is pretty awesome. Edited to add: We don't know yet that a LoF can't be a mage (we also have some non-LoF mage running around & doing heists, in Half Up Front, so if LoF can't be mages we might have a freelancer mage and the two other classes will be LoF). As far as I'm concerned LoF can cover all the classes/races/genders, so they can't really be compared to the Crows/Mortalitasi (who have obvious class restrictions).
