"Fursona" is a combination of "Furry" and "persona," so it's kind of like the anthropomorphized animal alter ego or avatar of people in the Furry culture.
One could argue that the Dread Wolf is Solas' fursona.

I am not in the Furry fandom, but a friend of mine was (past tense because he died suddenly and unexpectedly a couple of years ago), and I just wanted to mention that media has twisted what Furries are about in order to increase ratings by titillating their audiences. The majority of Furry culture has nothing to do with sex.
Ouch, that sad to hear :[ I was on deviantArt for quite a while, and there was/is a considerable community of furries. I didn't know many personally, but a lot of people have at least heard of them. The definition of furry seems as spacious as otaku and can mean a lot of different things to different people, from entirely innocuous to... eh.
Hilariously though, in the world of Dragon Age where shape-shifting to animals and symbolic representations/identities are a thing that exists, fursona is quite an accurate description for it

Not only that, but there are some indications that the animal/nature aspect is older. Which would make the elf form the fursona. Errr... persona?
Gareth David-Lloyd @pancheers My wife watched me complete @dragonage trespasser last night. It obviously got to her. She woke in the night from a bad dream shouting “Ga, quick. Get my staff!”
I mostly find people use Fursona as some sort of punch line. I'm not a Furry, I don't have any friends or family that are Furries. But I still think it's not... respectful? Of whatever the Furry people got going on?

There's nothing disrespectful about it lol, it's an actual word within the furry fandom. It's just a combination of the word furry and persona, hence a fursona is ones persona (online/fictional or real) represented by an animal/anthropomorphic animal (fictional or real).
What the fex are fex and where are they even mentioned in DA???
I think I am correct in saying they have never been mentioned in any of the games or source books. However, David Gaider made some sort of reference to them at either a convention or on-line when suggesting possible new races and so people took it as canon that fex either exist currently in the jungles of Par Vollen or in the past. Personally, until they do appear or are referenced in game then they are not part of the lore. I'd also find it easier to believe they had existed in the past rather than they were somewhere in Par Vollen yet no one in present day Thedas knows anything about them. I don't think the Qun would take kindly to intelligent humanoids running around on Par Vollen and they not having control over them.

I agree with you for the most part, but... snake people o_O

Sheryl @sherylchee I would like to thank @patrickweekes for throwing me down a hole and burying me in my own baggage. Thank you, Patrick.
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes What I'm hearing here is "emotional engagement".
Sheryl @sherylchee Sure.
on the note of snake people, aren't there codex entries about...reptile like people living in the deep roads? I know Split the Veil did a podcast on different races in DA and went over them
Cat Girls...I'm not for them really... but I think it would be neat to have a companion that turns into a cat or a cult of demon cats like in the Shale DLC. I might change my tune on the whole thing if they can sell them off naturally and they not seem randomly shoved in *shrug*
does this chain mail have a forward link?
LOST DOG responds to Solas/Fen'harel/you bastard if found, return to Inquisitor Levellan immediately

Plot twist - Ser Pounce-a-lot was an ancient elf all along.

http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/9386107 06:15 Q: Are there more sentient races in the Dragon Age universe than the ones we know about? A: Yes, yes there are, for instance there is a race that was native to Par Vollen where the Qunari arrived, that we have not shown yet, they're called the Fex, and you don't see them outside of Par Vollen very much, but yeah there definitley are, and maybe there's even some beyond Thedas.
The Qunari conquered Par Vollen and then Seheron in Steel Age, the Fex probably face similar issues the Fog Warriors do in Seheron.

The difference being that we know about the Fog Warriors both from Fenris in DA2 and World of Thedas. The latter also mentioned about a civilisation that pre-dated the Qunari on Par Vollen. However, in both these cases they are just a different grouping of humans.
Now the Fex are suggested to be a totally different race of humanoid that are apparently still around and yet there has been absolutely no reference to them outside of this answer by DG. I can just about take the Titans having been forgotten about, because they have been slumbering deep underground, but an intelligent race of humanoids on Par Vollen that no one remembers? If the Qunari forcibly took over their territory wouldn't some of them have fled? It also suggests that the northern islands have never known the Blight or there would be darkspawn based off this race and yet the only ones recorded are the ones we have already met. If they were around in northern Thedas then surely they would have been seen in the 4th Blight that originated up in Antiva?
To be honest I'd rather they kept to the races we already have whilst dealing with the immediate problem of Solas. Then in a future game have us discover these new races when we go beyond the continent of Thedas.
