Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes A great way to help @karinweekes as she records pronunciation guides for made-up Dragon Age words is to helpfully say the words to her in the voice of Agnes Gooch from Auntie Mame.

If there's a makeover scene that Mae does for another one of the companions in DA4, I'm totally going to eat that up with a spoon, just sayin.

"Only real way to reduce crunch is to reduce scope, and have a more focused experience, playing to their strengths and not going outside their comfort zone" Sounds like a good plan to me Yes, comfort zone Bioware is best Bioware. Yes, comfort zone Bioware is best Bioware. Does Bioware know what their strengths and comfort zone is anymore though. Do we know what their comfort zone is? I can just imagine posts like this kind of thing point to the overall desire of what the fan expects BioWare's comfort zone to be. Small, linear, corridor crawley experience that are focused and all that. But the last BioWare game to fit that particular mold was Mass Effect 3...which released...jesus 9 years ago. Since then we have had three different BioWare games come out in a very particular style. Yes, even Anthem for all of its size limitations kind of fits in nicely with the other 2. And the real fun part about this? There is really little difference between this version of BioWare's comfort zone and say Origins. The MET was an entirely different animal, but we have just larger maps...and that is basically it. The RP is still essentially there, several f the BioWare staples is still there. What he is likely talking about staying focused and within parameters is to avoid the Cyberpunk disaster. To ensure the scope of your game stays on pointenough and does not drift or get too ambitious to where they make too large a game that then they cannot deliver and it implodes. Of course this is an area where I sort of agree with you because BioWare has had this issue a bit to. Examples include experience, trying to ad what may have been RTS elements to Inquisition, trying to make no Man's Sky Mass Effect, and not being able to decide whether or not Anthem should be an RPG or a looter shooter, trying to do both, and failing to do either. But yet someone within the company or their overall hiearchy made the determination that these things aren't working these systems if they try and go forward will break the game, so lets cut them and then try our best to get a product out...that someone likely was working at EA. (As an aside since the Cyberpunk disaster I am suddenly 100 times more grateful EA bought BioWare, this could have been Inquisition...this really could have been Andromeda if someone hadn't said no) The solution to moving forward then, in my mind, is to have more clear cut goals on what your project is going to be and then identify if something is not working earlier so you can cut it with enough time to have to scramble fixing the rest of the project. No, I'm worried they'll just focus on the cities and then write off the rest of the country. Like how they did Kirkwall, then ignored the rest of the Free Marches. I think they should do less nations so they can focus on them more. So instead of all of northern Thedas, just do Tevinter and Qunandar (with Seheron since both say it's there's). ut instead it seems "Okay here's Antiva City. Screw the rest of Antiva." or "Okay here's Weishaupt. Screw the rest of the Anderfels." and so on. That’s my concern as well and everything we’ve seen so far makes me think we’ll be seeing a handful of cities and nothing in between. I don’t see how they could do Minrathous, Antiva City and Nevarra justice while also having the resources to do their associated countrysides justice I wouldn't be too concerned yet by that. Though since this is all concept art anything can be cut at this point (though I would put more money on the cities being cut rather then the wilderness) we have still seen plenty of concept arts or areas that take place out in the middle of nowhere and thus the more adventury aspect of the series. Heck we even got an entire new faction based just on that. A. We have presumably maybe a Lord of Fortune standing in front of what kind of looked like a burning something in the middle of maybe a desert ( ). B. We have not Dorian and not Isabella swimming in the middle of an body of water. C. we've seen multiple pictures and even a moving animated thing in the BTS trailer of Dwarven ruins of some sort. D. We have the 'romance tree' area. E. We have the Red Lyrium Area which may not be related to the first. F. We've had the woman with the weird bow stalking through a snowy area...which again could be related to the first two. G. We've had the area with the presumably grey warden staring looking at the battle toads. H. We've had the area that looks really...high fantasy...with the aravels traveling in the distance and the guy in the golden armor. So again concept art but the intention seems to be to have plenty of wilderness in the game. While it might be hard to compile I would even wager we have seen more wilderness then city...as is bound to happen in this kind of game anyways. Now whether or not they can do this balance justice or not remains to be seen but I will say that we haven't really seen what this new generation of consoles/ gaming tech can really do and give them in terms of technical ability AND we have already seen games that, at least imo, have delievered amazing cities and amazing wilderness. Witcher 3 Wild Hunt and AC Odyssey come to mind. Not sure about Vahalla yet.

Kinda a mixed bag from Renish for me. I don't think scope reduction is a bad thing for Bioware at all, focusing on what they do well might also be a good thing but that really depends on what they think they do well reconciling with what I think they do well and, while it's not surprising, wanting to tell 'fun' stories and not telling stories like DAO anymore is kind of disappointing. But tbf I wouldn't call DAI a representation of gaming fluff either so as long as we can't only defeat Solas by going LET'S HUUUUG UWU it's probably fine. OTOH we've had three games of being told Tevinter is one of the most thematically dark places in Thedas so ~shrug~
One thing about reduced scope and sticking to what they're comfortable with miiight maaaybe mean less chance of substantive online components. But I don't really think the people making the game have a choice in that.

BioWare fans would NEVER react badly to random tidbits from the developers offering super vague and superficial stories of development which ultimatley amount to chill the frick out? That would neeevvveeerr happen. *ahem*.

Studio sizes: There’s currently ~350 staff in Edmonton, ~200 in Austin and more elsewhere.I remember "Anthem" being settled on just days before their first trailer, so that'll give you some idea how late in the process titles can be settled on. It was "Beyond" prior to that. "On the title situation (two): names are the last thing they worry about because names have to go through legal before being approved. Every name, including character names, has to be checked in case it’s a famous person, or associated with something bad, or offensive in a different language due to localization etc"Where is elsewhere?

[My guess is maybe the studios that exist to support the larger ones.

EA studios with specific expertise needed for DA4, is my take. For example, I know one person who was part of BioWare Montreal until it was closed, then became part of EA Motive is working on DA4 from EA Motive.

Just wanted to pop in and mention that I have gotten to the DAI chapter of the BioWare 25 year book and well almost completely by coincidence I popped on the main theme of the game that Agent Sambora composed on YouTube and I am in my comfy Inquistion T-shirt too. *sighs* ah the high life.

Superficially, Bioware Montreal was absorbed by Motive. Actually, Motive was taken over by shadow Bioware.

A Tangled The series & DA crossover? first time I watched the cinematic trailer for the newest WoW expansion I told a friend of mine 'Sylvanas is pulling a Solas' and he was all...'what do you mean?' so he watched the trailer and then said 'oh...I get it'
in case people don't know: Sylvanas tears down a physical barrier between the world of the living and the dead

Hah, I had the same reaction! Granted, it was overshadowed by my overall grumpiness caused by too much Sylvanas...I loved her in the Battle for Azeroth trailer, her "For the Horde!" still gives me goosebumps (the good kinda), but I'm more of an Anduin fan now she's just a stereotypical villainess who does what she does because she can...or at least as I understand granted, I started out in the Horde because...blood elves (and their leader is voiced by Gideon Emery ) but eventually became a neutral-ish player by playing both sides...still more of an Alliance fan but I stopped playing WoW a few years back, mostly because 1: I couldn't find a race+class combo I liked (I hate how most are restricted due to 'background') and 2: it cost me too much money (I mean, 50+ bucks for the game itself, then a 13/15 euro monthly fee...that's a lot)

2) granted, I started out in the Horde because...blood elves (and their leader is voiced by Gideon Emery ) 1) Dull humans. 2) Was this still the ol' mad Kael'thas? *does a quick search* apparently not, but having Emery voice a grumpy-looking one-eye is kinda there as well.

Space goats? Do you mean the Draenei or Eredar? Or the Satyrs, which are degenerated Night Elves if I racall right... 2) Eh, sane leaders on any side would not allow the eternal Alliance-Horder conflict ball to continue rolling... This is why we got dudes like Grom Hellscream, his idiotic brat, the latest incarnation of Sylvanas, Jaina's daddy back in WC3 and Jaina herself at some points...
