Huh, interesting! I kind of love the idea of companions actually being able to notice what I do in combat, although I worry that it's going to upset them. (Poor Alistair, constantly yelling 'Plan B! Plan B!!!' while low on health. Oh, honey. You're the tank! You being beaten senseless is Plan B.) Oh my god, thinking about this being implemented in DAI... My Inquisitor would not have many friends. But I gotta do what I gotta do! Sometimes it's okay for Dorian the Necromancer to be knocked out. He provides a distraction that way, if you level him right. Look, it's not our fault that the spirit he summons while unconscious is sometimes more useful in combat than he is. We didn't make him be a Necromancer!
You know, considering it further I think the only characters who wouldn't be mad at me for how often they get knocked out when I'm in charge are Aveline and Blackwall. After having Blackwall as my main tank on at least four runs of DAI, I'm not sure I even remember what his low health dialogue is, and I've been known to reload instead of letting Aveline stand there jabbing people while everyone else is down.

After hours of attempts at finally trying to beat Cory-face in the Legacy boss battle (on Nightmare difficulty) I decided early on that my companions were useless and I just let the fire consume them and finished on my own. I don't even want to know what they would have had to say to me eventually.

After hours of attempts at finally trying to beat Cory-face in the Legacy boss battle (on Nightmare difficulty) I decided early on that my companions were useless and I just let the fire consume them and finished on my own. I did a similar thing in DAI when fighting dragons as a Knight Enchanter. Bull kept wanting to go on the dragon hunt and constantly got himself knocked out. Ditto Varric who for some reason seemed to think he should close with the dragon: "You're frickin' ranged weapon expert for a reason!". Cassandra wasn't too bad, which made sense given her family, but no one seemed to understand that when you fight a dragon using electricity, you don't stand in water and if the dragon is flying or otherwise unreachable then the sensible thing to do is take cover until it is. So, on the whole I found it easier to ignore them, save my potions and solo it. Knight Enchanter was really kick ass.

Hava / Vee 🌿 commissions closed @haverdoodlesIt’s so weird to think how Solas – a complex, beautifully written character who has had such an emotional impact on tens of thousands worldwide – is literally just @patrickweekes oc. It’s something that I often forget when it comes to Dragon Age. Solas and so many other characters have formed permanent places in my heart, becoming as real as any person could be. Friends, allies, lovers, villains. They are THERE and tangible, you know? But at the end of the day, they are simply oc’s brought to life by their writers - a concept that is so magical in itself. It’s this sort of power that made me fall in love with storytelling growing up, and why I love writing today. Writers, you are wonderful. I adore you. Patrick Weekes @patrickweekesOC Do Not Steal (To be clear, Solas is the result of a big team including writers and editors, voice actors and directors, cinematic designers and animators, and like eight different kinds of artists. I am one of many people who helped make him work as well as he did.)

Jay Watamaniuk @jaywatamaniuk20 years of learning from the best. #BioWare He and Preston (is Preston also still there?) have been so involved over the years... Preston's code comments are everywhere in the KotOR script source. 20 years is really something. Congratulations to him, hopefully he and the team make good on this game.

Cassandra is a better tank! To borrow a phrase I tend to build her like an Abrams. She can take a lot of damage but I also give her a two handed weapon specialization and she can really dish out damage to.

(Not sure on the boards rules on swearing, even on a direct quote. If I've crossed a line, apologies but that is what a slightly meta Seeker would say)

Cassandra is a better tank! That depends on what you want out of your tank. If you want someone who can dish out damage and help the rest of the team dish out damage as well as taking the hits, sure.
If you want someone who (once he has his specialisation) will almost* never lose his guard on Nightmare and can solo a dragon by slowly jabbing at its ankles, Blackwall is your guy. Combat will be slower with him, but he'll still be standing an hour after everyone else drank all the health potions and decided to take a nap.
* ... and all of the 'almost' is in the DLC in my experience. The archers in JoH and the bolters in The Descent can cut through it sometimes, but all that means is that you have to keep half an eye on him and pay attention to when he uses his guard-building abilities, instead of just benignly ignoring him while you get on with other things.

Reminds me of the time Blackwall ran all over the Hinterlands hoping to escape the teleporting bears that had already demolished the rest of the squad.

(My favourite example: one time I was trying to say 'Isabela isn't a whore, she's a slut' and it came out of the filter as 'Isabela isn't a *****, she's a ***.' This did not aid communication.)

I agree. You couldn't even write the name of Varric's quest "Well, Shit!" without it ending up as "Well, ****!" really great when you need quest help.

I think though that a pure tank kind of needs a team around it to be fun. At least in Dragon Age terminology. I remember a time in Dragon Age 2, maybe even more then one, that Aveline was essentially the last woman standing and well she was just tanking it and they were wailing on her and getting nowhere. But she wasn't getting anywhere either and was just doing damage in the single didgits...and eventually I just gave up. Either set up a scenario where I put my controller down until they killed her or just even reloaded. Less dramatic example in Inquisition where Blackwall was against the Dragon in Crestwood and doing a fairly descent job of it...until he wasn't.

There actually aren’t any “find my missing family member” quests in the Hinterlands. The closest you get is “go find my missing druffalo.” And it’s still alive. There are a couple just like it though, for example the guy at the cult who wants us to find his girlfriend.
