To be honest, though, I am going to be suspicious of everyone, so betrayal will not come as a surprise, it will be expected. Especially since with what little they have shared, most if not all are going to be some kind of scum.

We all know that it's become your new favorite past time to hate on anything and everything DA4 related, but what exactly is your rationale that "most, if not all" Companions, Advisors and other potential allies will be scum? Just because you might not get all the particular characters and options you personally wanted? Most, if not all of the main cast of every DA game have been complex and at least morally grey, so what specifically leads you to believe that DA4 will be *that* much different?

They can demonstrate it all they want and act like some kind of performer to jump through the hoops of edgelords like the ones from that tweet, but at the end of the day what they show there means nothing for it will all be for the show and be manufactured for the event. Why, whatever do you mean?

Because from the trailers and everything else that they have released, it gives off a very ME2 feeling (I’m hardly the only one here who’s thought that) and most of the companions in that one were that way by design (even promoted as being like The Dirty Dozen in space). But go ahead, keep jumping to completely wrong conclusions.

You shouldn´t take Hanako too serious. She has a pretty unique taste which is often contrarianism. She is one of the very few people from the Bioware community who seems to hate Varric. I believe that the DA 4 companions are as good as the previous ones. Also its totally ok for Bioware to not liking a character. It´s only bad if a character is just boring.

Why, whatever do you mean? Its odd, for me the majority of that video holds up to what I saw in the game. I think Andromeda and Inquisition videos were much worse from my experience.

GameSpot @gamespotWith Dragon Age 4 and Mass Effect 5 both in development, BioWare better show up to Summer Game Fest or Not-E3 with some good news. Here's what we know: They state that in Origins you could choose to be a Grey Warden. Huh? I'm pretty sure you get no choice in the matter, in fact it is clear that Duncan will slaughter you if you don't do the Joining. They also state you defend against Arch-demons, which is true, but no mention of the darkspawn which is what they do the majority of the time between Blights and which are specifically referenced in the DA4 trailer as future enemies. So did the writer of this article actually play the game?

So just to recap, what would be the events this year where we might get DA4 news? Since EA Play was cancelled and all.

So just to recap, what would be the events this year where we might get DA4 news? Since EA Play was cancelled and all. For this year, DA Day (possibly more short stories?) and the Game Awards are the best bets. But they could release new concept art or blog update at any time. Possibly a studio update during the Summer Game Fest? - Heh... somewhat less likely now (see 2 posts below). But given that's likely a Fall (~Nov) 2023 or later release, I'm not really expecting things to kick off until EA Play next year.

So just to recap, what would be the events this year where we might get DA4 news? Since EA Play was cancelled and all. Summer Game Fest - June 9th Gamescom - Aug 24-28th The Game Awards - December Although of those, I would say only the Game Awards has a decent chance.

Seriously? We all know that it's become your new favorite past time to hate on anything and everything DA4 related, but what exactly is your rationale that "most, if not all" Companions, Advisors and other potential allies will be scum? Just because you might not get all the particular characters and options you personally wanted? Most, if not all of the main cast of every DA game have been complex and at least morally grey, so what specifically leads you to believe that DA4 will be *that* much different? Because from the trailers and everything else that they have released, it gives off a very ME2 feeling (I’m hardly the only one here who’s thought that) and most of the companions in that one were that way by design (even promoted as being like The Dirty Dozen in space). But go ahead, keep jumping to completely wrong conclusions. First, pretty much EVERY Bioware main cast of Companions and allies follows the whole "Ragtag Bunch of Misfits" tropes. All of them have complex personalities and diverse motives, and yes most are morally ambiguous to one degree or another. So DA4 will simply be following suite in that regard. Aside from initial concept art that ultimately might not even be any of them in the final game, we know next to nothing of the DA4 Companions. Not their personalities, beliefs or goals, tactics, nothing. Varric was in the teaser, but he could be glorified cameo or even doomed mentor. Most of us *assume* Maevaris and/or Dorian could be a Companion and Advisor, but they could end up being just quest givers. The whole "people Solas doesn't know" and "when those in power won't listen" *could* apply to fringe and criminal elements, but that could just as easily be only one or two characters. Also, the potential Lord of Fortune is more likely funding worthy causes, rather than only their own enrichment. I could be wrong, but again we don't have enough concrete evidence one way or the other to say that most of DA4's main cast will be "scum". If one of your objections is that we will be "forced" to associate with such people, while I agree that any good RPG should have as little mandatory characters and content as possible, Bioware has ALWAYS had essential Companions to one degree or another. The only games they've done that allowed complete player control of the party was the BALDUR'S GATE series. More's the pity, but that's a different discussion altogether. Finally, you say I'm jumping to the wrong conclusions that you have been hating anything DA4 related? Prove me wrong; out of everything released thus far, what do you actually like and are looking forward to experiencing? Characters, art designs and animations, combat tactics, *anything*. In the end, isn't it healthier to focus on what you enjoy, rather than the negatives?

By the way i doubt that many are hoping for Dorian as companion. As a previous romance option and therefore quantum character its highly unlikely that he will be ever a companion in a Dragon Age game again.

Corinne Busche 🏳️⚧️ @corinnebuscheGamespot, have a Snickers. What we’re not going to do is return to the crunch culture model of old. It's just a dumb clickbait headline that the article writer probably didn't even come up with (actual article doesn't come off as aggressive). Anyway, I do see a lot of unrealistic expectations coming from both DA and ME fans and I think BioWare shares some of the blame for that. Let's review how they've teased/marketed DA4 so far. 1. Released a DLC in 2015 that teased DA4 2. Teased DA4 at 2018 Game Awards 3. Released BTS trailer AND cinematic teaser in 2020 4. Radio silence in 2021 but said they could talk more in 2022 5. As it is now 2022, not unreasonable for people to start hoping for DA4 at gaming events In my opinion, that's way too long to tease people and not at all surprising fans would get restless, annoyed, and/or apathetic. I'd say I hope they learn from this but they are already repeating the same mistake with ME Next. That was teased in 2020 Game Awards, as the final reveal no less, for a game easily 5+ years off at that point. Now I encounter tons of ME fans online who expect this game in the next year or two, many even thinking it will be BEFORE DA4. The lack of transparency from BioWare combined with excessively drawn out teasing/marketing campaigns are a big reason the fanbase is like this. For those of us that come to these boards every day, we generally know not to set expectations too high, but the more casual fan who sees a trailer just thinks "oh, that's coming soon!". Because historically trailers are usually for things within 1-2 years at most.

With all due respect, I think you're being a little too harsh. Despite all of our disagreements, I do consider Hanako a unique and valuable voice to these discussions. I just don't know why anyone would constantly pursue the negatives in what they claim to have loved, instead of focusing on the good and/or moving on.

Prove me wrong; out of everything released thus far, what do you actually like and are looking forward to experiencing? Characters, art designs and animations, combat tactics, *anything*. In the end, isn't it healthier to focus on what you enjoy, rather than the negatives? First, let me apologize for saying that. I thought that line from you was being more insulting and dismissive, like how cuthbertbeckett is being. I honestly wasn't even trying to be mean towards the companions in the comment that started all this, instead as I said above was referring to the similarities between this game and ME2 from how it sounds (which I guess makes sense since that one is unfortunately seen as the best so they might be trying for a safe bet to rebuild their reputation). Even some of the wording is similar, since like here in ME2 all the people in power were ignoring the problem so we had to work with a terrorist organization and half of the galaxy's most wanted. I do doubt that it will only be one or two characters. It's far more likely that they'll be the majority while genuinely upstanding citizens will be the minority, both to be a kind of contrast to Inquisition and again like ME2. That is one of my objections yes. Especially since lately they've been forcing them more and more. DAI was an exception, but ME2 you had to get most, ME3 you could refuse only one I think, MEA you couldn't refuse any. But also just an annoyance about what could have been the character they gave those resources to instead. As for proving you wrong, with the criteria you set up I can't. The only thing you were wrong about was the reason I said what I said. My comment wasn't me hating on DA4, but just citing what's likely to be the case and attaching that to the earlier discussion about a traitor/manipulator in our party. As for what I'm looking forward to or like, honestly right now there's nothing. Highly doubt I'll like most of the new characters and I fear for returning ones I do like either being ruined or killed off, the story is just a copy of ones we've done before and a shadow of what could've been, the art's okay but some is stupid like the "everyone look at me" Crows outfits, never really cared about animations, tactics I have no opinion on since nothing has been talked about in that regard, locations either it's places I've never really cared much for like Tevinter or I fear are going to be wasted in this game like Antiva most likely. So to give you an answer, I'm looking forward to being proven wrong. I would love nothing more than that with this game. But with each little it we do get, that becomes less and less likely. Which sucks because I love this franchise and want to love DA4.

Seriously? We all know that it's become your new favorite past time to hate on anything and everything DA4 related, but what exactly is your rationale that "most, if not all" Companions, Advisors and other potential allies will be scum? Just because you might not get all the particular characters and options you personally wanted? Most, if not all of the main cast of every DA game have been complex and at least morally grey, so what specifically leads you to believe that DA4 will be *that* much different? You shouldn´t take Hanako too serious. She has a pretty unique taste which is often contrarianism. She is one of the very few people from the Bioware community who seems to hate Varric. I believe that the DA 4 companions are as good as the previous ones. Also its totally ok for Bioware to not liking a character. It´s only bad if a character is just boring. You should take Hanako as seriously as any other forum member here. They have opinions too, it is too shocking for words I know and I am normally the last person to defend them. I am tired of Varric, that I can admit. Criticize the content, not the person, and don't strawman any of us like that please, it makes the forum a joke.

Off topic, but I'm seriously jealous of Corinne's hair in that pic. Wish I could be arsed to care for my appearance like that, it looks so pretty!
