BioWare @biowareWelcome to a new series in the #DragonAge universe! Watch Dragon Age: Absolution on @netflix this December. #GeekedWeek It’s official: Dragon Age is coming to Netflix. Dragon Age: Absolution - a six episode Netflix animated series - debuts December 2022. About Dragon Age: Absolution - Set in Tevinter, an empire within the Dragon Age universe - Created in collaboration with BioWare, creators of the Dragon Age video game franchise (winner of over 130+ Game of the Year awards) - Features an ensemble of new characters inspired by, and authentic to, Dragon Age lore; including elves, mages, knights, Qunari, Red Templars, demons, and other special surprises Created by show-runner Mairghread Scott. Produced by Red Dog Culture House. Cast not yet revealed I may be overly cynically but is this going to become homework in order to understand key points of the game? I think this is something where opinions will vary...IE I don't really think Masked Empire is required reading to understand DAI...but then people disagree with me and think BioWare is horrible for making Masked Empire such required reading... That being said no, I don't think it will be.

Even then I don't think it was too impotant but yeah I can agree there was a lot of set up and especially how we went from Lambert to Lucius and how the stuff with the mages started.

Heavy stuff happened in Masked Empire but the people in DAI don't act like they went through all of that and no one around them acknowledges what is obviously public knowledge.

3d type animation such as the movie Tekken: Blood Vengeance or Alita: Battle Angel is my preference.
Dragon Age: Absolution is low budget, ... very similar to Dawn of the Seeker animation movie.... which I watched and was unimpressed.
All a marketing move, imo.

I may be overly cynically but is this going to become homework in order to understand key points of the game? I'd think there's at least one point worse than the books, which one could buy individually as opposed to "subscription-based streaming thing". As I hinted above, I'm probably gonna ask an acquaintance.

Well, as already said, there's a ton of details, which you don't get in DAI, as we are mostly getting the POV of Celene supporters in-universe, or the official Chantry take regarding Asunder events for that matter.

I'm just not sure how strongly I agree with that. Granted on some level there is a kernal of truth to it but the events were referenced by Leiliana so they were acknowledged by the game...same with Lucius existing and talking to Cole in Inquisition. Whatever Briala's reasons for the reconciliation are really up to her...be they personal or political. Though also full disclosure I don't think I have ever reconciled them in a playthrough and my canon Inquisitor usually goes out of her way to get Celene killed.

Tim Sheridan 🏳️🌈 @iamtimsheridan DA fans are gonna be happy; this show is Dragon Age to its core. But it’s also a great entry point for new fans of the franchise. Can’t wait for you to see! 🐉⚔️🏰
(I know. Predicting that fans are gonna be happy is dangerous business. But I really believe it!!)

It can have absolutely amazing stuff and realm-shattering revelations, as long as, if they are important to the game and can influence choices you make in the game, they are discussed and explained well IN the game and not cherry picked. That's totally fine. DAI botched that with your choices of who can rule Orlais, it was no secret that Celine had an alienage burned down for political reasons and yet you can't do or say anything about it, Leliana is more concerned with Morrigan than telling a possible elf Inquisitor that Celine is just as genocidal as Gaspard. Briala is perfectly happy to go back to the woman who had her parents murdered for political reasons if you merely give her a necklace, because that murder just doesn't exist in the game. Heavy stuff happened in Masked Empire but the people in DAI don't act like they went through all of that and no one around them acknowledges what is obviously public knowledge.
These are all fine details that can be put in a book. In a game? I don't think so.

PS: Can anyone say knowing the LORE in intimate details can help you make better choices in the game(s)? "attention to political details can derail the game", you say? In a quest that is nothing but political machinations?! I would argue it's more important for the Inquisitor to know Celine's sordid secrets regarding what kind of ruler she truly is, rather than a rumor that her and Briala used to be lovers. I'm making a decision on who I support as a leader based on what their policies are, not on who they sleep with. Why is it easy for the game to let me know how much of a warmonger Gaspard is but not how manipulative Celine is? And Briala doesn't need to tell me her entire tragic backstory, just tell me that Celine did something absolutely unforgiveable and she will never trust her again. If I want more context for that, I read the book; if I read the book already, I know what she means; point: she acts like a person who went through some heavy stuff that is still affecting her and we're not cherry picking what details we want characters to be affected by and what we want to them to conveniently forget. Netflix Geeked @netflixgeekedHey, you missed one! BioWare @biowareWait… that wasn’t in the trailer. 👀 Dragon Age @dragonage👀 As I said elsewhere, that is one waifish qunari. I feel like she should have her own body pillow or something Bold of you to assume that's not why she looks like that. Since DAI I've been a bit underwhelmed with how the Qunari were made to be pretty much horned elves but tol and hench, instead of the more interesting imo design of DA2. Yeah, they were all identical twins in DA2 but that singular design still looked very distinct from the other races.

They can always adjust her look in the game engine, so she looks more qunari and less a horned human but really I don't care; if the qunari in the concept art has changed from a rogue to a mage, I'd be okay with that. Even if she doesn't transfer to the game, I'm looking forward to seeing a free Vashoth mage depicted in this story. Incidentally, I know the Qunari go in for selective breeding but even that can result some physical difference between individuals, particularly if you are selecting for different traits. The reason the Qunari we have met look pretty much the same is that, on the whole, they come from the Antaam, so from the gene pool selected to produce soldiers. Even Iron Bull was bred to be strong but the Tamassran spotted his potential as an enforcer in the Ben'Hassrath because of his quick mind. There are two other branches to the Qun, including scholars, administrators and artisans that do not need to rely on physical strength. However, they are only ever likely to be encountered on Par Vollen or in the associated settlement of Kon-taar. Since mages seem to crop up randomly in any population not specifically trying to breed them, this lady could have been the offspring of a non-combatant mating. EDIT: Further thought. We know that an elf/human mating always looks human. Have the writers ever confirmed what is the case with a vashoth/human mating? Do they always look human, always vashoth or a combination of the two? Since the Qun have both human and elf converts, do they keep the breeding program separated for each race or do they cross breed because they resulting offspring will always be qunari in appearance?

These are all fine details that can be put in a book. In a game? I don't think so.
Game pacing is critical and attention to political details can derail the game. Filtering the necessary from the I like to have is a must. The cutting floor is full of these decisions.
Dragon Age: Absolution is the right type of media for the finer details. A treasure trove, I'm sure, for all fans of the DA series and graphic novels / books.

True in the real world.
However, the game / quest is not a simulation. What we have are simple binary trees and thus decisions are simplistic and consequences are almost nonexistent if for the sake of keeping the game focused We have agreement on unnecessary background information except in the political sphere.
Supporting either Celine or Gaspard ought to be based on which one benefits the nation best. Again, a simple binary solution. Celine is manipulative? That is to be expected from a politician. Gaspard a Warmonger? That gets people killed. Did Celine do something unforgiveable? That's a moral question that can be significant depending on the individual assessing the ruler.
Celine was my choice. I don't like Gaspard's war poliicy.

Interesting.
DA2's Arishtok was an impressive alien. He was human looking but very distinctive, made more so by his adherence to the Qun religion and warrior discipline.
It strongly disagrees with me when an original alien is "imaged" then changed to look like something else. Klingons being an example. It also bugs me when an alien's distinctiveness is made non existent in a later game... I give you Bull. .. my sentiment exactly... all for expediance.
DA:DW will ( I believe ) have a watered down Qunari companion if only for romance purposes. A joke in my eyes.
