Yongyea has sadly turned into outrage clickbait like Legacykilla and The Quartering I mean, triple A is a mess. Most new releases are missing stability and quality patches up the ass. Features promised get removed and the end product just ends up being a lukewarm mess. Look at the new Battlefield, look at the new Call of Duty, look at GTA remastered. When something is good, it gets covered, but just like the Diablo 2 remaster, a good product can be marred by a bad launch, where people couldn't get on MP for weeks. It's just that, at this point, the bad far outnumber the good and the bad needs to be pointed out, if we want our industry, our hobby, to correct itself. We can't just take in the bad with apathy. I mean, we can, but we probably shouldn't. It's been a bad year.

Looks like EA is really unhappy with that Battlefield 2042 performance. Makes me wonder if we'll see something very bad for the "Ripple Effect" Studio, in the near future.

I mean Quartering makes the 12 videos talking about the same topic. There’s concern and then there’s just clickbait to maximize your own profit.

For triple A. There is much more than that. I am not aware of any trouble in AA or indie dev. I'm not saying it's free of it, I'm just saying I'm not aware of it and since more people follow AAA to AA and indie, it makes sense that more journalistic interest focuses on them. Unless that's not what you meant and I went on a tangent. It’s hardly apathy when it’s the same “GAMERS ARE ANGRY!” Clickbait nonsense everytime. I mean Quartering makes the 12 videos talking about the same topic. There’s concern and then there’s just clickbait to maximize your own profit. I never said it's apathy and it is important to waddle through the criticisms to find the valid ones. Even then, when the data is open to interpretation by the companies to portray them as they want, trust is difficult to be built. Gamers have had problems with business practices of the likes of Activision and EA since the mid 00s and the introduction of the DLC. I understand that a company exists to make money, but do you remember back when Modern Warfare was released? It came with, what was it, 8 maps for Multiplayer? And the first DLC was $15 for 4 more? A quarter of the game's price for half the MP maps. In earlier years, communities would churn out tens of maps on their own, for more open games and they'd do it for free. The only Activision games I've bought over the past 20 years, were the Transformers games and Deadpool. The only EA games I've bought over the past ten years, were the Dead Space and Battlefield games that were on sale for ~$2 each on Steam and I only bought them for my brother. At the price I buy their games, these companies do not make money. It's not clickbait. It's an accumulation of mistrust and disdain, over a very long period of time. It's when EA's execs go on and say "we can't believe people see us as the bad guys", that they further seem out of touch. They don't know what we've been saying over the past 15-20 years, they aren't listening now and don't care to.
And it’s only bad year if you’re spamming doom on the internet. Did we have any good triple A releases this year? Resident Evil Village, I guess.

Whatever you may think, constant doomsaying isn’t healthy. Going on YouTube clicking on guides for GTA only for a result saying “WORST GAME EVER!” Is more likely turn a person off. It’s also going to create division on who’s a “true fan” whatever that means. Criticism is good but exaggerated nonsense is just as bad.

It looks absolutely terrible, it's bugged as fuck, it's got stuff missing, like bridges and buildings in SA, it's fucked. It's like the Warcraft Reforged thing. Not to mention, what the shit is up with those requirements? That frame rate? The textures! The textures were AI upscaled and then hand touched. There was this one store window that had the word AIR, AI upscaled to AR. And then hand touched to look like a clearer AR. They turned the nutt on the Tuff Nutt Donut sign into a donut. Because they simply subdivided the model, until it was round. Because nobody realized it was supposed to be a nutt. How can you fuck up that bad? You can't just consume products and be thankful.

The GTA remaster looked like a cheap cash grab, and i'm glad i didn't preorder it. The game obviously needed more time in the oven but RS had it released in it's current state in order to profit off of the holiday sales.

Right there is nothing wrong with posting valid criticisms about a product. The problem arises when you keep posting criticism to the point you drive away the people that aren't just looking for the carnage. That is the point when you are just preforming for the audience that wants to see you rip something apart instead of those that want to be informed. For those that just want to see a YouTuber rip a specific game apart will watch a video because they already know what they are going to do, but those that are looking to be informed might walk away from those videos and buy the product anyway.

Not the hugest fan of Skillup, but at least has the awareness to say that his reviews are his opinion. Gamers seem to have a tendency to online reviews like sacred texts.

For those that just want to see a YouTuber rip a specific game apart will watch a video because they already know what they are going to do, but those that are looking to be informed might walk away from those videos and buy the product anyway. Youtubers don't really rehash news. Like, each one is his own outlet, so, of course, you'll have 6 people covering the same thing, for one video and from there coverage continues and they can recap past stuff in their next videos for context, like the Fallout 76 story, or Anthem, as those stories progressed. And it is also to keep the heat on the companies. I don't think Rockstar would have made a statement about fixing GTA, if there hadn't been some blowback and coverage and places that those hateclicks get funneled. And as these guys always say, they never attack people on a personal level. There's a reason why those games looks like that and it's not the low level programmer's fault that it looks like that. And, thinking back, I remember a few tweets towards that cosplayer/animator that worked on Andromeda. Just thinking of how Schreier described the working conditions she had to endure and all her colleagues, just to ship that game, to ger personally singled out and attacked, man, so not cool. Like, I get that it wasn't the best job, but the model department did a terrible job with the models, missing flexes and rigs and bones and just being an absolute mess. And we know that was the condition of the models, because we had that information from modders that extracted the models from the game and were, basically, unusable. I could go on about how that wasn't even the model team's fault, because they were critically understaffed, because management told them to use Genesis assetts, instead of building custom models, because they needed to save time and the head hacks breaks the rigging and the bones needed to be built to work for the broken rig and that's just fucked up, because it's like working on a puppet on a string, but instead of moving the string, you got a lever that you gotta twist, to move the string, to move the puppet and good fucking luck getting that to work. Just fucking end me, already. Sorry, just went on a rant.

Have you guys read the Kotaku review of Vanguard? What was once a series about the brutal, tragic reality for the war’s infantry has become a bizarro-world power fantasy about its greatest imaginary heroes. And with this, ironically, it has lost all its power, all its ability to say anything of worth. This latest entry’s narrative is only about how desperately it wants to ride the zeitgeist of progressive representation, without ever giving a moment’s thought to just how poorly it rewrites the reality of marginalized people involved in the war.
Call Of Duty: Vanguard is all about a time-travelling group of six elite soldiers, sent back to the 1940s to save the war effort. Now, I should say this is not explicitly stated, but there’s no other workable explanation for this wokest group of sensitivity-trained, progressive millennials to exist in the time period. They’re there to thwart the Nazis in the very tail-end of the war, to infiltrate Gestapo HQ and secure some secret files on conspiratorial nonsense Project Phoenix, and spread their message of tolerance. That's really harsh, coming from Kotaku of all places. COD was one of the best series in portraying war in all of its glory and tragedy. To see a campaign devolve into complete lunacy is sad to see, even the worst COD campaigns understood what it was at its core. Vanguard's campaign is just a mockery of that.
