I think we all know why we had more digital sales than physical. Stores were closed for the past 6 months.
This was touched on as well. Daniel Ahmad @zhugeexThe Sony and Take Two numbers were pre-covid (12 months through March 31 2020). The EA number was 49% in the same time period, has grown 3 percentage points in the last quarter. It's worth noting that we entered the current console generation (2013) with digital downloads accounting for around 5-10% of unit sales. Now we're entering next gen with 50%+ as standard. Packaged sales are still strong, especially during COVID-19, digital is additive overall

So I don't think its going to be anything Mass Effect related for the TBA game. Because of the online rumors I would think EA would have just confirmed any kind of remaster or whatever they are doing since that seems to be their track record. Try to keep it quiet and a surprise, but if it leaks announce it shortly after the leaks to start generating buzz.
The spike for COVID for digital sales isn't surprising, but it also isn't that much higher then what I think EA would have expected of course its impossible to know for sure how much more or if any additional sales are because of COVID, but in the 2020Q4 report the digital copies sold was at 49% and they are seeing growth consistently for platform sales by estimating that they see 5% growth each year. Also checking they had a digital sales of 47% in 2020Q1 so it is possible that even with COVID it didn't impact the transition at all since people can still buy physical copies of games from places like Amazon.

Unless it's a similar deal to that with EA and Disney. AT&T needs cash, they want to sell their gaming division, not rent it. The division owns a lots of game only licenses, it's not all about DC/LordOfTheRing/Lego/HarryPotter (and I'm not sure if those are exclusive to W.B. as there are none-W.B. games that exist) and they have some juicy publishing rights *cough*Cyberpunk 2077*cough* that will come with the purchase.

AT&T needs cash, they want to sell their gaming division, not rent it. Oh, sure. The studios will go, but the IPs will be temporarily bound by the one that makes the purchase. The IPs are too valuable to sell off, for good. A timed deal would prove more lucrative, for WB, in the long run. And it will be free promotion, basically, for their franchises in other media, like comic books and the movies. Video games are a huge source of income with virtually limitless potential, especially considering the MTX scheme. What prevents the studio that makes the next DC game to make a Justice League game, like the Avengers one by Crystal Dynamics? You don't have to sell the IP out. Just make it a timed exclusive.

From the Kotaku articles on BW, we know they have a bad reputation for crunch as well. And at the time they did get slammed in the media for it as well. But you're right, CDPR is the golden boy of the industry and won't get anywhere near flack other studios would.

Ouch With that kind of hours, I wonder If they have any employees left in a few years Also: I'm pretty sure that even those 'normal week' working hours are illegal under the EU's "Working Time Directive". The EU’s Working Time Directive (2003/88/EC) requires EU Member States to guarantee the following rights for all workers: - a limit to weekly working hours
- the average working time for each seven day period must not exceed 48 hours, including overtime;
- depending on national legislation and/or collective agreements, the 48 hour average is calculated over a reference period of up to 4, 6 or 12 months
- a rest break during working hours if the worker is on duty for longer than 6 hours
- a minimum daily rest period
- in every 24 hours a worker is entitled to a minimum of 11 consecutive hours of rest
- a minimum weekly rest period
- for each 7-day period a worker is entitled to a minimum of 24 uninterrupted hours in addition to the 11 hours' daily rest
- paid annual leave of at least 4 weeks per year
- extra protection in case of night work
- average working hours must not exceed 8 hours per 24-hour period,
- night workers must not perform heavy or dangerous work for longer than 8 hours in any 24-hour period,
- night workers have the right to free health assessments and, under certain circumstances, to transfer to day work.

Source: Working Conditions - Working Time Directive I'm guessing since they're now recruiting from other countries, there'll always be fresh-faced kids out of college ready to get chewed up and spat out. And as far as the EU labour laws are concerned, I don't know... maybe there's a loophole in the Polish labour laws that allow for this? They do have to pay OT, I do know that.

Yup. At our company in Germany 10 hour days are the maximum. And we get shit for violating working time and break laws because then the company gets into trouble. There are ways around that (not clocking any hours beyond that, I know it was done in the past sometimes) of course but it's not something they can enforce since it's illegal...
I don't know how people manage to work so much. The mere two weeks I had to work 50h last year to make a deadline, including 3 full Saturdays, already made me want to kill myself. I felt like shit. Was too tired to do anything fun. I know I'm a big spoiled baby but why anybody would put up with that for years is beyond me. Anybody not saving lives during something like covid or a war should not work such hours. Nothing else justifies it. Nobody is forcing anybody to work in this industry, I know, but how that's legal I dunno... And that's not even taking vacation days into account of which countries like the States have shockingly few while they also work much longer hours than Europeans. Apparently taking one month off after years of crunch ist considered sufficient compensation to Americans. Like that's something they would never get otherwise. That's sad. I get six weeks paid vacation every year with little to no overtime! I take 3-4 weeks off to travel abroad all the time. It's what keeps me sane and my body healthy.
This is not OK for CDPR either. I bought RDR2 and I will buy Cyberpunk because it's the people who do crunch who need to change things from within by not putting up with it, but it's definitely something at the back of my mind when I play that makes me feel a bit guilty every time I marvel at how awesome the world looks, all these little details. I know what these devs did to their health and relationships to impress me.
