Roblox, a kids' content creation tool featuring goofy, Lego-looking characters and popular games about going to magic school, dressing up cute pets, and basically trying to become Naruto, is now worth more than Take-Two and Ubisoft combined. Perhaps the most surprising thing about that news is that it’s… not all that much of a surprise.
That huge valuation comes thanks to Roblox the company (which makes Roblox the game) going public last week via direct listing, and impressing investors enough to reach a first-day valuation of $45 billion. That's a lot of money, more than Fortnite maker Epic Games was worth last anyone checked ($17.5 billion in August of last year), and a whole lot more than many other companies whose names you hear more often.www.ign.com/articles/roblox-is-now-worth-more-than-ubisoft-and-take-two-combined-what-does-this-mean-for-gamingRoblox's total valuation at the close yesterday sits at $45 billion - a figure that makes it worth more than several other large game developers. Some of the companies that the California-based platform provider has surpassed include Take-Two Interactive, Electronic Arts and Ubisoft. Emulation is killing consoles. Such a shameful practice.
I was just reading up on this. The gamer seems to be breaking a lot of news lately. Seems like they are the only publication that is actually doing any journalistic work. I mean, not a high bar, but still.

Emulation is killing consoles. Such a shameful practice. How so? My PS2 was dying, so I got McBoot and can play Street Fighter 2, Spider Man and my other games on my PC. I have a PS3 that is no longer in the main entertainment room, and I prefer gaming in my home office. I bought all of the games I play, still have the BDs in their original case. I can play almost all of my games on RPCS3 reasonably well, and seeing as it is an old 60gb fattie model, it could go anytime. MAME for the arcade games I loved as a kid. The casino operators that made them and started the loot box one quarter at a time, got enough of my quarters thanks. The first two cases are perfectly legitimate uses of game emulation, and why it is awesome. Consoles kill themselves, PCs are essentially eternal even if they end up like the Ship of Theseus. If you meant piracy, I agree, mostly. If the artists are dead, I don't pay Columbia for their music anymore. You already got my argument for MAME, Bally and Midway got theirs.

In hindsight, it doesn't translate that well on e-paper.

It is definitely a game that should have stayed canceled seeing how much it is whitewashing the war crimes committed there.

Considering all the alleged war crimes gamers are enabled to do in past games, I’m not sure why this game is any different.

Or just don't buy the game? Do you think the same of things like snuff films, where if you don’t like it don’t watch but people should still be allowed to make them?

Except those past games you mention are based off fictional conflicts, so not using real life tragedies and atrocities as props. Even some of the fictional ones rightfully got criticized. And games based off real conflicts both follow fictional people and don’t allow the kind of war crimes in this battle.

They do have the right, and plenty of games have stories based off real life conflicts. Older COD games are a prime example, I mean if movies and books allow real life conflicts and people why can't games? Shouldn't we be evolving like what journalists and some Youtubers say? Why go for censorship like Jack Thompson did?

And the war crimes that took place here were far far worse than that terrorist attack. Games have been banned before for content, like one that was about playing as a rapist a few years ago, so just like other free speech-related rights there are limits. Again, last I checked CoD games based off real conflicts followed fictional characters and didn’t allow most war crimes (I remember one allowing execution of POWs) as be certainly not ones on civilians like this battle did. I do t recall any movies that portray the war criminals as the good guys.

Most of my disagreements to the people who support banning of the game but create games that glorify violence.

It's got 4700 signatures in an industry encompassing hundreds of millions. I think ... that campaign's not going to achieve much. Oh and they're aiming for 5,000 signatures. Companies like this want more than 10 million sales, these 5000 signatures are going to do so much. Not commenting on the morality of this issue, merely on the futility of so many of these internet protests.

Yes it does happen. Not just from crowdfunded indie developers, but just developers in general. Take what you read and see with a grain of salt always
EDIT: The difference is actual developers are more subtle and aren't hilariously stupid

Apparently people in the industry believe miners aren't the problem for computer shortages but we are. We're buying more components and more PCs leading to a shortage. Covid sent people to work from home, those people needed PCs and businesses needed cloud storage. More gamers as well because of the pandemic, a console generation etc etc.

A GoFundMe for a direct ballot initiative to pass right to repair bill. www.gofundme.com/f/lets-get-right-to-repair-passedThis doesn't affect video games directly, but video games can become inaccessible because of DRM/online authentication so any win for right to repair helps video games indirectly.
