Just FYI for anyone who sees the previous post, he's (the guy in the video) wrong. the current chip shortage has nothing to do with miners. He mentions the automotive industry, but his conclusion "it's all miners" is completely wrong. One should really consider better sources. The "fake currency not backed by gold" is hilarious.

He mentions the automotive industry, but his conclusion "it's all miners" is completely wrong. One should really consider better sources. The "fake currency not backed by gold" is hilarious. While the current shortage isn't the SOLE fault of the miners, stating that the current supply shortage has nothing to do with miners when they're buying up large chunks of graphic cards to make money is 100% wrong. Furthermore the article you posted is very lacking in depth. The Linus video goes into much greater depth on all of those points plus more. There is only so much you can put into a 200 word article after all. Purchases of graphics processing units (GPUs) by cryptocurrency miners helped an explosion of sales during the fourth quarter of 2020, according to graphics and multimedia research firm Jon Peddie Research (JPR).In a press release on Wednesday, JPR said GPU shipments rose by 20.5% in Q4 compared with the previous quarter and 12.4% year over year. The increase in sales, largely due to a coronavirus-led shift to working from home offices and increase in indoor-related activities such as video gaming, was also boosted by cryptocurrency mining, the firm said.www.coindesk.com/ethereum-crypto-mining-research-firmWhile the idea that mining is the sole cause is hyperbole, I also have no idea where people get the idea from that the cryptocurrency boom has NOTHING AT ALL TO DO with the shortage of graphic cards, while miners are buying up large numbers of available graphics cards ... Anyway the point of me posting the video was an example of when people believe the situation would ease. I thought it touched on one of the reasons behind the shortage fairly okay. For anyone curious, this is a picture of a mining rig. It is made up of almost 80 RTX 3080s

Furthermore the following graph shows the effect of the last cryptomining boom on the market: 1- The 2016 boom 2- The 2018 crash 3- How many GPUs were able to ship in 2020 Is mining the main or sole cause of this shortage? No. There's a silicon shortage, many areas of increased demand like in cars, in work from home, in cloud storage, there's yes mining, there's a new console generation. All of these contribute. BUT anything which adds a *looks at graph* 20% increase to the overall demand of GPUs hurts. It hurts in normal circumstances and it hurts A LOT during a shortage. Let's say everything goes back to normal except for mining. That's still a 20% increase in demand because of mining so your GPUs will still be costing extra because companies wouldn't have factored in that demand. And because fabrication facilities are at 100% it's very hard to increase that supply. So yes there is an argument to be made that things won't be completely back to normal until AFTER the cryptocurrency bubble bursts ... again Back in 2018: The sudden increase in cryptocurrency mining has pushed the price of graphics cards through the roof. Popular favorites of cryptocurrency miners such as Nvidia’s GTX 1060 and 1070 graphics cards, as well as AMD’s RX 570 and 580 GPUs, have all doubled if not tripled in price--and that’s just when you can actually find them in stock at all. While researching prices for this article, we observed some of these graphics cards being sold in excess of $1,000. A few GTX 1070s have even managed to hit $1,300.www.tomshardware.com/news/ethereum-effect-graphics-card-prices,34928.html

If you're basing your economics on someone who thinks "backed by gold" means anything in 2020, rather than Reuters, I don't know what to tell you. I watched the video, he gives no sources and he says almost nothing of substance until the end when he mentions the automotive industry, and even then his conclusions - "it's because of miners" are wrong. You should be aware that his "job" is to get people to watch his videos, and so there's a good chance he's gonna create or capitalize on drama, just like Sterling or many others. It's not about truth. Truth is boring.
The chip shortage isn't about graphics cards or the "miners" bogeyman. it's about higher than anticipated demand for other products (such as cars) during the pandemic, along with decreased production, along with a couple of accidents or "natural disasters" in factories. This isn't Gaming News so i'll leave it at that.

Reuters needs YOU to read THEIR stuff. The higher than anticipated demand is driven partly by miners. If you can't accept that singular piece of logic, even after all the data that's out there, even after the last cryptomining boom also left GPUs at two to three times the normal price that's not my problem. That's a YOU problem. Also I don't quote people like Sterling. JayzTwoCents actually provides better news relevant to gamers than many sites do. One only has to recall the Verge's attempt at providing a computer build guide.

But Bitcoin mining is putting even more pressure on the chip market, creating an additional shortage and boosting the price of chips.
The huge competition among miners is prompting an increasing demand for advanced chips. This results in a price boom for chips and thus affects the other industries relying on semiconductors.
CW Chung, head of research at Nomura in Seoul, told Financial Times:
“Added demand from cryptocurrency miners is coming when the chip industry is dealing with simultaneous crises — from supply constraints to a structural shortage of high-end chips. The squeeze should last through the end of the year.”
The problem is so severe that Toyota and Volkswagen – the world’s two biggest carmakers by the number of vehicles manufactured – were forced to cut production due to the shortage of chips. Elsewhere, smartphone makers have no choice but to delay the launches of new devices.
Chung explained that crypto demand might have a great impact on the chip market. For example, during the last Bitcoin rally, demand from miners represented a tenth of the entire sales of TSMC – the third-largest chipmaker in the world.www.fxempire.com/forecasts/article/bitcoin-mining-adds-to-existing-shortage-in-semiconductor-market-chip-prices-surge-712458

Stellaris DLC "Nemesis" is coming out on the 15th. Basically, it turns the late game into a Star Wars: Prequel and/or original trilogy simulator, if the prequels were fun. While I do not have the $$ to buy the DLC right now, I am psyched for the 3.0 update..
which finally makes automated pop resettlement inherent and free in the base game. Pop resettlement has been a time consuming nightmare since v. 2.2 Le Guin. Yay!
Also, Espionage looks cool.
So I am DEFINITELY going to play the 3.0 update.

Same here, in fact I have convinced my tabletop RPG group to hold off on our game this Friday so we can all play a match of Stellaris instead Really looking forward to see how the new First Contact process will work with the espionage system. Having to work out how powerful another empire is, discovering their economic, scientific, and military power makes a lot more sense in the 3.0 update than just magically knowing everything about another species the moment you initiate communications was a little silly. As far a the Nemesis features are concerned I am really looking forward to becoming the Crisis in my single player campaign. The only question is if I want to burn all of reality down as evil robots or evil undead spiritualists.

Hmmm. The problem is actually collusion between chip manufacturers, creating false scarcity by reducing production in 2018 iirc because their profits had plummeted because they overproduced. This is entirely a problem of greed, but in 2021 I do find your belief in fake currency and your low valuation of gold to be funny, if not hilarious.

Resident Evil 4 is showing its age, but deserves its reputation as the best one. Both of the recent remakes (2 and 3) are worth checking out, though they're pretty short compared to 4 through 7. RE 2 offers more total SP play-time, though the MP of RE 3 might make it the better choice, depending on tastes. I'd say you can safely skip 5 and 6, but you could have a look at some footage. RE 6 is mostly an action game. RE 5 has aged poorly. I wasn't a fan of RE 7 personally, but it is the best critically-reviewed main entry since 4. It's first-person, and kind of a mix between Outlast and Silent Hill. For an under-appreciated gem with the best story of the series (in my opinion) and some truly innovative gameplay, Resident Evil Revelations 2 was an episodic sequel to a mobile game that was way better than it had any right to be. The characters have honest-to-goodness arcs, with actual character development. Barry has become honestly compelling (I know, I know... the "Jill Sandwich" guy.) The explorer/fighter mechanic made for much more interesting gameplay than the other third person entries. And it was actually creepy with some really inventive RE-style monsters. I gotta play Resident Evil games Ah, the ol' "kidnapped by terrorists and forced to play Resident Evil to free my loved one and/or family member" scenario.

I don't have "proof" but I do have a pile of evidence from AMD and NVDA as well as TSMC that points to a simultaneous shutdown of production across the board. I am on mobile ATM and the links are on my home PC, but suffice to say I am not spouting bullshit. I never said anything about the Fed, or your education level. Not sure why you felt the need, but I hope your rant made you feel better. Edit: oh I get it now, you are a Crytptonian. Good luck with that.

Through five months, the PS5 is the best-selling game console in US history, both in terms of units sold as well as dollar sales.
Despite continuing its record-setting pace, the PS5 actually got outsold by the Nintendo Switch in March, both in units and dollars. If you look at the best-selling game for Switch in March, that makes sense. Monster Hunter Rise shot to the top of the Switch sales chart, and it's the only non-Nintendo game on there. Given the massive popularity of Capcom's series, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Switch take the top spot in April, too.www.gamespot.com/articles/ps5-is-best-selling-game-console-ever-through-five-months/1100-6490273/PS5 and Switch selling amazing, Xbox lagging behind because their exclusives (like Bethesda) have no release date in sight. Switch has been doing amazing recently, Animal Crossing and now Monster Hunter O.O

In an interview posted on David Jaffe’s YouTube channel, Days Gone writer/co-director John Garvin (who has since left developer Bend Studios over what was implied to be personality differences) suggested that part of the reason why the game will reportedly not be getting a sequel is that not enough people bought it at full price.
“I do have an opinion on something that your audience may find of interest, and it might piss some of them off,” said Garvin. “If you love a game, buy it at f-cking full price. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen gamers say ‘yeah, I got that on sale, I got it through PS Plus, whatever.”www.denofgeek.com/games/days-gone-director-game-price-canceled-sequel-interview/If you love a game to pieces and most importantly you are comfortable financially, reward the developers for creating something you love by not being stingy with your cash Cash shops have a bad name, but I love splurging on games I love. It's my money and past time so whatever. The dodgy 3rd party sites that help launder credit cards are the worst as well.
