Let us welcome vella in our midst! Anyone else still playing? Cause vella made me, and now I want to try out ALL THE NEW CIVS that I obviously got on sale because ... well ... there is no because, I simply had to.

I still play Civ IV. At this point, it has become a sort of challenge, to see how far behind the series I can get while still feeling like I'm playing the "new" version.
It probably helps that I recently installed the "Fall From Heaven 2" mod, and have been playing the crap out of it.

I've been playing this wrong all the time. I thought adjacency boni were only granted when the buidling is commissioned but you add something later and it gets updated. Also built logging camp in rainforest with Maori but I have a suspicion it is not the right thing to do.

Ok, bare with me, this is likely to come out as rant/rambling, sorry about that. So, I picked Civ6 up a while back but installed it just recently, and I'm not impressed. Is this game supposed to be boring? I've played all versions of Civs and some of the spin-offs, and this is the first time I find it difficult to keep playing. The menus are all over the place and the UI is full of small font text. I have to click this and that to continue and the unit actions don't include a hotkey for Healing anymore (more clicking). I've played some free or indie building games that keep me invested for hours; this game not so much. Did I just get it wrong? Is there a game hidden somewhere that I couldn't find? All answers are appreciated.

Ok, bare with me, this is likely to come out as rant/rambling, sorry about that. So, I picked Civ6 up a while back but installed it just recently, and I'm not impressed. All answers are appreciated. The last Civ I played was IV and in my opinion, the UI has improved tremendously since then (no more text that exceeds buttons, no more glitchy overlays etc). If you're unhappy with the text size I think you can increase it in the menu somewhere. A quick google search produced this. I never use hotkeys in strategy games so I can't help with those. Do you have the vanilla game only? It's been some time since I played just that but I know I couldn't go back to it. The expansions are where the fun is, and while I agree that's not a player-friendly strategy, at least you really get a shitload of new content and features with the DLCs. The game is still super fun for me after many hours, and there's still challenges left. I go for different achievements, try out different Civs, switch up the victory types I'm going for, explore new maps and scenarios etc. So I'm not nearly done with the game. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But yeah, thanks for the reply. The UIs in Civ games have been a mess for quite a while now, and usually require some heavy modding. That's what I mostly end up doing anyway, so it's fine, but I was worried about this game being so lame from the start. I have Rise and Fall and some nations DLC bundle; it was on sale some time ago. What I gather from your post is, that the game just might be lurking under that hideous cover they call UI. I have to try and find it.
So, I'll give it another go then and start modding it to suit me better. I just needed a nudge to keep me going.

I play on ps4 so I don't have the benefit of mods, but I've found Civ 6 to be great. The vanilla version had lots of issues, but now the completed game with all the patches and add-ons is pretty awesome. The Gathering Storm expansion is sort of necessary imo, and the frontier pass civs is more optional but well worth-it imo (some of the funnest, most unique civs were NFP civs added late), and most of the balance changes and updates made necessary improvements to the gameplay. Just have to get used to the UI, but once you do there's a deep and fun game there. Not as good as Civ 5 with Vox Populi, but pretty close.

I tried modding it and I wrote a mod myself, but nothing worked like it was supposed to. It's a difficult game to mod. Just have to get used to the UI What bothered me most, was the FoW. I have low vision, and there is not enough contrast for the map to look clean and clear. It bugged me to no end and finally I just gave up the game. Not as good as Civ 5 with Vox Populi At least there's that; I have no trouble playing Civ5. But I still prefer Civ4.
