I'm gonna sound rich, but I weighed my option between having children, having a house, and getting a GTX 2080 SLIM-FORM powerhouse PC on Amazon during quarantine....and the last option won. Slim? I hope it has good ventilation, it might be a bit soundy 2TB of SSD I presume? Yeah Noise is fine

Cooler Master MH-751I have had these for a while now. I bought them on sale for about $60 after tax. The best bang for buck I've gotten out of comfort/quality/durability. They plug into anything and sound great. Mic sounds clear too. No idea if the 752 is worth the extra 10 bucks or so though.

The main reason being that my Dell gaming laptop, which I'm already super proud of, cannot hold more than like 2 AAA games at once, and I'm tired of uninstalling and re-installing games. I want a wide variety of AAA games. This new powerhouse PC will have 2 TB's. Omg. As someone that is using 12 TB...you will need moar space!!! Whenever I buy new HDDs, I always buy them in pairs or more. The reason is redundancy. Losing 12TB of data is unthinkable. My HTPC has two 12TB HDDs on RAID 1, my main PC has four 4TB HDDs on RAID 10, and my NAS has six 10TB HDDs on RAID 5. It's an expensive solution, but it's necessary.

HDDs are so shite, they tend to malfunction REAL quick, especially if you suffer power outtages every now and then like me here in the shitter. I could never buy a 12TB one, monumentally expensive, they cost like 4TB SDDs and those cost 4 and a half kidneys here. Also, wiping them out takes for fucking ever. Took 4 hours to write zeroes in one of my 2TB, I can only imagine how much does it take on 8TBs or more. I have a few 2TB HDDs and another 320GB, which was canibalized from my former old computer. One of the 2TB is fucked real bad, I left it for non-essential storage (AKA movies, TV shows, redundant stuff that I can easily get again if the worst comes to pass), but any game installed in that one performs real bad, hanging all the time, in fact I have to copy tv shows to another drive if I want to watch them or the player crashes at some point. And those are Caviar Blacks, the supposedly "best" brand for HDDs. It's a really old technology very much so non reliable at this point in time. I've read a while back that the quality of production declined greatly from WD.

I've read a while back that the quality of production declined greatly from WD. WD black or WD gold is currently there best options, the caviar drives went over to the old toshiba/fujitsu plant about a decade ago (mostly there meant for those cheap elements portable units) honeslty though the price of gold drives is enterprise level expensive... they are still generally the best drives on the market for spinner s though, seagate is still making the platter killers as standard... and no drive will last for ever, if power fluctuations are your biggest issue then you should be running your devices off a UPS (although those cost more than a pc for "good and reliable" the relativly cheap unit that ive been using for the last 5 years is dying but thanks to my country being on a reactive flow grid its been getting a lot of work to deliver stable power to my hardware (when the input fluctuates between 49 and 51 Hz before the substation breakers kick in, and the voltage changes between 210 and 250 on a nominal 240v supply before the substation drops the power) its noticable only in how fast gear breaks) if you dont use a ups then those fluctuations will be going to all the hardware your running off your psu (unless you have an 80+ platinum or titanium certified psu) thats a lot of damage over a relatively short space of time

Picked up a SteelSeries Apex 7 keyboard today. Heard good things about this keyboard so I'll give it a try. My Logitech G910 is starting to have some missed keystrokes while playing games. Which pisses me off, its barely a year since I bought it.

I've got a Logitech G500s that I've had for 5 years. I love this thing! It's got enough buttons (and a clickable wheel), you can adjust the scroll speed and mouse sensitivity, and it comes with a set of weights for customizing. I have little hands so it fits me perfectly (heel of hand to tips of fingers) so it might be a little small for you behemoths out there. The only thing I don't like about it is the braiding on the cord, which wouldn't be a problem if my configuration were different but with it hanging off the back of a cheap pressboard keyboard tray it's frayed and has been unraveling slowly for years. As for keyboards, I have my giant MS ergonomic keyboard so I only keybind my left hand and drive with my right on the mouse. If only everyone let me move and turn the camera with the mouse buttons like SWTOR...

A keyboard with a few thumb keys. I'm amazed that they're not more popular. Having a bunch of commands that you can activate with your thumb besides the spacebar is really convenient.

Went and changed my PC case. Had the Fractal Design Define R4 Went for the not so new Fractal Design Define R6 Good cases, do recommend Fractal for a pretty silent build. Love the TG. Does get a little warm, though.

Does get a little warm, though. Ha, that's my case. I use it vanilla, didn't add extra fans. No need really. Temperatures are normal, I use air coolers and have an OC on the CPU and RAM. We'll have to see if it changes with the new 30xx GPU lineup - apparently those beasties would be running hot.

I got a notification from EVGA about my queue and they had the RTX 3090 Ultra FTW3 available. So I decided to just buy it instead of waiting for the RTX 3080. After the 10% EVGA Associate Code discount, it came to $1710 with $134 tax and shipping. The card is actually roughly the same size as my Zotac GTX 1080 AMP Extreme, so my current case has no clearance issues. Which is really surprising. It uses three normal 8-pin PCIe power plugs. Good thing I already had a 1000-watt EVGA (Superflower) PSU in my PC, so I didn't have to change anything. Just plugged in the card and everything worked perfectly. So far it is just as quiet as the Zotac, but it surely runs very hot on full load. You'll definitely need AC when you game in summer.

I don't know if I'd go for the 3090, especially at that price point, but congrats, man. My eyes are currently on the XFX RX 6800 XT Speedster Merc 319
It's a fooken' beast as well. Probably the largest card out there, at 13.25 inches. But I adore its aesthetic and reviews have it more silent than the CPU or even the case fans. The lack of any extreme RGB is a plus, as well. Too bad it's not in the wild, yet, available for purchase.

Last few mice I tried from them went belly up between 2 weeks and 3 months after purchase. They are great when they work, but when they don't... It forced me to try Logitech for the first time actually. The G600 is going strong with zero issues for two years now I think. I haven't tried other brands yet.

I'd prefer the 602 much more to the 600, to be honest. My MMO days are behind me, sadly and I like the same of the 602 much better. But that 2500DPI is a little limiting. The 502 goes up to 6400 and I'm currently using the 3200 setting. The 600 is a great recommend, otherwise.

So my dear PC hasn't gotten any new hardware in over 5 years. I'll probabyl have to replace most of it once I decide upgrading anyway. Question is: When? Is the GPU market still completely nuts? I've been out of the loop for a while.

I've been out of the loop for a while. Still completely nuts, although there is some small supply now. Prices are insane, so I won't recommend buying yet. It may take a while, maybe even more than a year before we see the prices drop from "ludicrous" to "rather expensive".

Still completely nuts beyond measure.
Which is funny. My GPU died. Two weeks back.
So I've been scouring the internet and found a pre-built for an acceptable price with very nice hardware.
...if you don't have to, I do not recommend following my example (that, and my CPU/MOBO/RAM was a decade old, and my GPU eight years, so you have PLENTY of time before you end up like me, anyway)
