Why not at least make the game like Mass Effect series? Or even the Dragon Age series? Better yet... how about SWTOR????? Honestly when they said the game was set between Order 66 and A New Hope I was actually thinking/hoping Ahsoka might be the protag. While I am not against have a "white dude" as the protag, yeah it could have been a lot cooler. I agree a customizable PC would interest me more.

I've seen some people rightly disappointed that were stuck with a white human dude again. But remember Its really hard to sell RPGs these days and it takes a lot of resources to make male and female an option let alone aliens (at least some of the more exotic ones). It was a bit easier before we started expecting physics on everything. Its quite an ordeal to make physics for hair, lekkus, and fur etc. So while I'm like aw man I wanted to have bewbs I am *very* aware that it was likely an impossible sell. Hopefully our support of this game will signal there's a nice market for SP star wars games and we get more customization in the future.

I agree, as a female gamer though, I like to play as a female because it brings me into the game more. I understand the selling point and that, but I think that maybe they could pull in more people if they diversified the game. But I am just speaking from my personal taste in games. I have deliberately not purchased a game for the mere fact that I couldn't play as a female (as silly as it sounds). Just my personal preference Sorry if I offended anyone with my "white dude" comment

Its hard to live out fantasies in the gender you're not. If the story/world is good enough though, I can easily get past it but I cant think of the last game I played as a dude was like.... halo 3? I think with FPS and ARPG I can easily get past the protag being a dude because of the gameplay but for most RPGs I just cant do that. And no worries about the white dude comment I think most people here aren't easily ruffled by a stranger on the internet xP

I am curious to see if there is some scaling back with something in the next BioWare game to make sure there aren't presentation issues for people to latch onto.

For me it isn't a deal breaker, but it is a big selling point if a game has it. For example, having a choice of playing a male or female character and having dialogue options were the main reasons I got AC:O. In general it seems AC:O did quite well by adding some rpg features. As for the next Bioware game, DA4, I don't see them removing that choice. Even DA2 had that.

I really want to play it but I am hesitant. If it has an ending where the character must die then I don't want to play. If there is some way where your jedi sneaks away and spends the rest of his life blending in the way obi wan did before he met luke then I am happy with that. Maybe you have to make some hard choices to get it but it can still be an option. It looks awesome but I loathe games that have the (everyone dies at the end) and given when this takes place in the star wars time line I see this being a game where our character dies at the end.

Interesting how respawn has now done 2 recent games without using Frostbite. Why didn't Bioware drop it then if EA is apparently not forcing it on these guys? BioWare has said all along that it wasn't "forced on them and it was a choice they made" you make it seem that BioWare wouldn't have a problem with other engines to get their games to work and that is an unknown we just don't see, but I rather them continue with Frostbite instead of starting on square 0 and have to go through all the growing pains of inquisition and Andromeda. Hard to say if they are having the same problem with Anthem for it seems they are having a different path of problems there. Yeah but unreal engine just looks so cool. Look at ME3 and then look at MEA and tell me how ME3 looked more "real" for lack of a better word and better and was last gen the MEA which is a current gen game.

Any SW item sold under the Disney regime is a hard sell by now. Is proven time and time again it just flashy effects with mental ballast sprinkled in between. I am gonna catch so much crap for this but I actually really liked star wars episode seven and eight. I am not a HUGE star wars fan but I do like the series. Well except the prequels. Darth maul aside they sucked. I didn't see star wars rougue one because I heard how it ended...

Any SW item sold under the Disney regime is a hard sell by now. Is proven time and time again it just flashy effects with mental ballast sprinkled in between. Oh for fu... listen. Disney doesn't touch their publishers when it comes to video games. They just don't. Secondly Disney has almost nothing to do with the creative direction of Star Wars. Disney is the overlord that only pays attention when something goes wrong. Please view each piece of work in both the contexts of its surroundings and by its self. If you only do one you could really miss out. Equating what we've seen in the video game industry for star wars since the Disney take over we have 1 mobile game 1 disappointing rushed game and a loot box controversy. All of those things are bad marks yes but Fallen order has some things going for it. Namely the first thing going for it? Single player. SP games are a lot harder to shove anti consumer practices in because the costumer base is far too indignant to accept that bull shit. Second point EA seems to have given respawn a free reign to be consumer friendly. This of course could be a lie but seeing the evidence now it points to a good outcome. I'm not asking you to like the game or pre order I'm just really sick of seeing this "Disney is bad guyzzzzz" attitude when quite frankly its just born from laziness and over simplification. I am far from someone who defends corporations however when it comes to people complaining about disney owning star wars I would like to point out that jar jar didn't come into play under disney. Nor did they own the franchise through episode,1,2, and 3. So I ask has disney really been bad for star wars

I prefer to play as a women in most games (the VA often sounds better in my opinion and it's the same reason I don't usually play as a human if there is a race option) However if the VA is good then I am okay as long as the game is good.

I don't think BioWare would cut the ability to pick the gender of the protagonist or having dialogue choices, but I can see them lessening the amount of romance options. I think having two or three options with each romance (and have one or two available for both) would be fine. I think one of the problems ME3 had was having to show love to people who romanced all the romance options in ME1 and ME2. Jacob fans got screwed and jack fans who romanced her got SCREWED until the citadel dlc eased it up. I think having to factor all those in made some suffer.
I would see bioware getting rid of race options in DA4 but not gender selection. The shi* storm that would unleash would be on par with the ME3 ending. And it would be before the game sold so alot of people wouldn't buy it.
I think having race options that look very different to humans makes us lose some things. Look at the qunari in DAI. Unless you had the DLC pretty muh all the qunari armor you could get was generic looking armor that often looked like crap (the warrior armor) "shudders". If the next ME game for example has race options I would see them being things that looked similar to humans but with different skins. Like the drell and asari and stuff like that.

That doesn't mean its a limitation of the engine, it could just as easily be a limitation by the style BioWare decided to go with. Look at the differences between Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2 and 3. I would say that Mass Effect 1 had a more "realistic" style to it then the sequels and all three were on the same engine. I am pretty sure there are games out there on Unreal look pretty bad graphically too.

exactly this! I like to have a choice (between male/female at least)
Trailer looks interesting, but for me the "white dude" is a deal breaker (that is exactly the reason I never played The Witcher, really wish they made a Geraldine as well - thankfully Cyberpunk has both options) - maybe I'll get it at a reduced prize and/or if the reviews are extraordinarily good

I'd never understand a race, gender, etc being a disqualifier of a protagonist of a story. At most I get being disinterested enough to not consider the game at full price. But disinterested, not opposed ('dealbreaker'). I'm gay and the large majority of enjoyed protagonists for me have been straight. Could more of them have been gay in a more diversified industry? Yes - but that doesn't change this in itself.

It looks like The Force Unleashed 3, but without StarKiller. I'm up for it right now. I still wish we had games about the Empire, or about a smuggler or some other things that doesn't necessarily always involve being a Jedi or a Rebel, but I'll take this one for now, maybe Respawn will try something outside the box next time if this one succeeds, which I very much hope for, we don't have many SW games these days and what little we have always ends up being trash.

Not bad... It feels like a SW Game, and I'm glad to see a SP story-based game again. The Jedi Hunters were kinda neat, and being able to counter (some) of your moves, and (of course) spiders . The combat feel very Alpha, but it seems to be shaping up. No real surprises in Cal's powerset, though I did like the slow time + pull enemy into their own fire trick. The movement & combat animations need to be smoothed out though, they... need more work. And it's kind weird seeing Cal cut someone in half with his lightsabre, and they're... still running around?

Oh man, I might buy this just for the cute lil droid backpack. Assuming it will run on my machine, of course. I like the pull and stab move too. I wonder if it's all solo+droid or if there are any other companions at all?
Edit: This guy seems pretty young, which makes me wonder if the "I hate Ryder 'cause he's a noob" crowd will have the same response to this PC. You know: he sucks 'cause he's not Shepard Revan.

Will there finally be a good Star Wars game I can play?
At least he doesn't look like an uber mench like that God awful Galen Merric.
